Konerko's Farewell Tour

It said he's out at least a week. Why play again?

You've dedicated your life to a career that will end in three weeks. You're injured and will never again be able to step onto the field... You take a week off and try to get back out there a few times. It's called having dignity.

Yeah, this whole season for Paulie is about getting a lot of love in the final week, as well as departing from a situation a little less stinky than last year's 99 loss debacle. He can still do that.

I worship Paulie, I'm just saying there's no reason to play with a broken hand when it's your last season.

It's not a fractured hand really. It's to the sesamoid bone. They are two little bones at the base of the thumb that serve as guides and protectors for the thumb flexor tendon. There are about half the size of a pea. It really doesn't effect the function of the hand other than it hurts like crazy.

Paulie on his hand: "I haven't done anything aggressive yet. I'll pick up a bat in two days and take some swings. If that feels good, we..."

...will move on from there. I'd like to get out there this weekend but if that doesn't work, I plan to get out there for the road trip."

I am completely apathetic about PK's last couple weeks but this is the last time I've followed a ~75 win Sox team this late into September. The team has a lot of new pieces, exciting new pieces even if there is much more to be done. I'm glad that PK was able to help out with Jose's transition (Jose said so himself otherwise I'd discount it) but he should have hung it up awhile ago.

This day in #WhiteSox history 2010: Paul Konerko, after being hit in face by a pitch in 1st inning, homers off Carl Pavano in next at-bat.

That is hard to do. First you have to have someone hit your face. Then you have to convince the manager and trainer you can still play. Then you have to homer the next AB.

I wonder how many times it has been done.

Paul Konerko is the White Sox nominee for the 2014 Roberto Clemente award.

Konerko said he might be available Wednesday. If not then, Friday (after off day Thurs).

#Royals will honor Paul Konerko prior to tonight's game. #WhiteSox

Paul Konerko was gifted $5000 for his charity, a chair from the 2012 All-Star Game which Konerko played in, a framed photo, and lots of barbecue sauce. #ThanksPK

Those are pretty good gifts. I wonder if Paulie pays somebody to haul all the gifts back to Chicago. The equipment guy will be getting a good season ending tip from Paulie this season I'd think.

Paulie starting tonight, and playing first.

Konerko had spikes on Weds and was available to pinch hit.

I hope Paulie puts one on the board next weekend.

I don't know how many of you go on Facebook, but these days, it's just 10,000 pictures of Derek Jeter... but this was a pretty cool comment:

It's a great post - too bad he looks like a shaved cracked out happy ass santa clause retard fist pumping his imaginary friend.

So it appears that the Tampa Bay Rays are the only team that gave Konerko a momento without pretty much being forced to. The other teams were CLE, MIN, KC (AL Central teams), Cubs, and the NYY (Payback for Jeter gift). And you'd assume the Tigers will do the same for Paulie next week.

I was kind of thinking the Red Sox or Angels may be one of those teams, because of 2005 and all, but I guess not. Or maybe even the Dodgers because that's who gave him the first chance in baseball.

I'm a bit miffed to be missing "Paul Konerko Day" as I have tickets for the finale on Sunday, but oh well. I can just catch it on TV then pay tribute on the day that actually makes sense.

As this season comes to an end, the more I wish he would have retired last year. With this injury and everything else, he is going out with a whimper, can't even get on the field
