November 8, 201411 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 03:24 AM) Avy Montas and Rondon wasn't good enough? Well, Montas and Rodon weren't what they are now, back then. We'd never get them in that deal in their current progression. Still, I thought the return on Peavy was fair at the time: 1 top prospect and 3 lottery ticket A ball players. I don't recall anyone being dissatisfied with the Santiago return. I wasn't and I liked Santiago more than most - to me, he was about like Wheeler (without the former top prospect hype): similar WHIP, high K, control problems. As for Rios, that was a "Get him off the team" trade in the waiver period where you rarely get full value. Speaking of the return, L Garcia cannot be on this roster next year. He may have had the worst offensive year in Sox history.
November 8, 201411 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 03:24 AM) Avy Montas and Rondon wasn't good enough? You missed the point... Point is that initially after the trades, many people were unhappy and felt the Sox should have gotten more for Peavy. Just look back at the thread. Peavy was over valued by the fans. The same happened with Rios. Fans thought the Sox should have gotten for Rios despite Rios contract being a big albatross in relation to Rios performance. Rios was over valued by fans. Another example is go back and see how divided the John Danks trade rumors was. Half of the fans (my self included) did not think he was worth much at all because he too had an albatross for a contract in relation to his performance but the other half of the fans insisted Danks had some real value because of the contract which ends up not being the case. This was especially funny because the mentality is, trade him he sucks and then its, well he's still worth something decent in a trade, lmao. Danks was over valued by fans. Same with Hector Santiago. Fans were b****ing about how the Sox could have gotten more for a guy that was a two pitch pitcher and had a hard time finding the strike zone. Santiago was over valued. Back to Alexei. As I've already pointed out, he's 33, hits for average with average power in a hitters paradise. If the Sox ask for too big of a return, the other team can simply call the cubs about Castro, which does not bother me since I'm thinking the Sox keep Alexei anyway. If for some reason Alexei is traded, I assure you that I will be laughing at all the hooting and hollering about " the sox should have gotten more" comments. If they dont get big deal for alexei I wouldn't trade him
November 8, 201411 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) Sweet. Matt Harvey or Yasiel Puig or Derek Jeter. Deal. Jeter's retired.
November 8, 201411 yr QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 01:07 PM) If they dont get big deal for alexei I wouldn't trade him Alexei is going nowhere. He is worth more to the Sox than another team.

November 8, 201411 yr QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 01:07 PM) If they dont get big deal for alexei I wouldn't trade him That's the bottom line. The Sox certainly can use Alexei and have no real need to trade him, unless that trade firms up several other weaknesses. If it doesn't, then keep him.

November 9, 201411 yr Author QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 01:12 PM) Jeter's retired. Did anyone tell ESPN?
November 9, 201411 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 06:12 PM) Did anyone tell ESPN? No but ESPN told EVERYONE! Over and over and over and over and still going. Its the ending that would not end.
November 9, 201411 yr You'd think that'd be newsworthy. Difficulties of living in the Babe's shadow I guess.
November 10, 201411 yr I'm up for trading Ramirez as long as its in a good deal. Hes one of the biggest trade chips the sox have and will bring back some good prospects. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he is traded between now and the trade deadline. Ran across this article doing a break down of trading Ramirez. http://southsideshowdown.com/2014/11/08/wh...nding%20on%20FS
November 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 12:18 PM) Garcia cannot be on this roster next year. He may have had the worst offensive year in Sox history. "Hey now, did you forget me already?" That distinction cost the Sox $13,500,000 less than Dunn's 2011 s***show.

Ran across this article doing a break down of trading Ramirez. http://southsideshowdown.com/2014/11/08/wh...nding%20on%20FS That is an interesting read. If the Sox are truly trying to contend in 2015, they aren't trading a proven major leaguer for prospects. If the Sox are rebuilding, that's a completely different story. If I'm the Sox, I'm telling the Mets I want Zack Wheeler in return or call the cubs about Castro. Honestly, I don't think Ramirez is worth Wheeler but if the Sox are going to trade Ramirez without having an experienced SS to step in, then the Mets will have to pay. Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy with Ramirez in a Sox uni for the next two years.

Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy with Ramirez in a Sox uni for the next two years. He's top 5 in the MLB at his position, which is arguably the most important position on the field, and is due to make only $20M over the next 2 seasons....I think Alexei gets a lot more in a trade than you think.
November 10, 201411 yr The big question is whether the Mets feel they're going to be ready to contend in 2015 or 2016, just like the White Sox. What's the rehab status of Matt Harvey at this point? If the Mets are also in a "make a move to improve the club but not all in yet" holding pattern similar to the White Sox 2015 season, then they're probably going to hold off on giving up talent on Ramirez, preferring to player their own youngster/s or acquiring the likes of a Lowrie/Stephen Drew/Scutaro type.
November 10, 201411 yr there was an article in mlb rumors that the writer mention, it would be in the mets best interest to talk to both chi teams about there SS

November 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 11:56 PM) Im not so sure a 33 year old Alexei with two years of control is worth a 24 year old Wheeler with 5 years of control. Alexei is passing his prime while Wheeler has his ahead of him still. I think Alexei is a bit over valued as fans sometimes do. Remember how plenty of people were disappointed with the return on players like Rios, Santiago, Peavy etc? Wait until you guys see the return for Alexei if he is traded. Santiago netted us Eaton...

Alexei is passing his prime while Wheeler has his ahead of him still. I think Alexei is a bit over valued as fans sometimes do all this is really dependent on the buyers and sellers and what is being asked for in the value of the rtn. as the other article said, the mets can go both ways. visit both Chicago teams and play them off each other. the sCrubs has a replacement ready while the sox, in essence doesn't. but if you take a look it at another way, they are coming to the sox with hat in hand asking if the sox would be willing to trade, not the other way around. so yes, the sox can play a little hard ball, esp when there is 3 maybe 4 teams needing a SS.

November 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 12:11 AM) Santiago netted us Eaton... I know that and I was one of the fans that loved the trade but there were some that felt Santiago was worth more and that's what my point was.
November 10, 201411 yr Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 9m9 minutes ago Mets would seem like a perfect match on paper for possible Alexei Ramirez deal, given their surplus of pitching and CHW needs.
November 10, 201411 yr I think if the Mets were willing to trade Wheeler for Ramirez, I'd have a really, really hard time turning it down. I understand the value of Ramirez and that he remains a fairly good player, but you cut $10 mill in salary and add like 5 years of control to the rotation.
