Polar bear wanting to get drafted by Mexico had me cracking up.

I must have missed that one.

Given recent NFL events, I could understand an avoidance of Terry Tate-style "violence as comedy" gags, but there have been countless funny Super Bowl commercials in the past that didn't rely on that type of humor. This year's crop was just godawful.

Terry Tate is a legend.

It's hard for avocados to do anything wrong.

You can't go wrong with animals in sombreros. I enjoyed when the dodo bird was drafted and immediately keeled over.

Yep, even Len Bias didn't drop that fast.

"Can someone explain to us what the internet is?"

That was good. I agree with SS2k5, worst set of commercials i've ever seen. Liam Neeson was ok, Cranston was ok. The truck commercial was the best since it trolled everyone into believing their cable was going out. Everything else, D-.

Halftime show was a halftime show. Perry did ok. It always cracks me up how the NFL always relies on music from 10-20 years ago. Missy Elliot? Lenny Kravitz? Snooze. I thought Bruno Mars last year was 100 times better. I vote ac/dc next year.

I was at a party at a friend's and she has a tv setup outside...she had a big umbrella in front of the tv because it has actually rained here the last could weeks a bit...so I went to move the umbrella and it just happened to be right when that commercial was on and the screen went black...everyone started raising hell thinking I did it...it was pretty funny :)

As for the worst....I dunno, that one year in the early 2000's with all the dot.com commercials was the worse to me by far.

Who greenlighted that toenail fungus commercial? That was daytime TV quality.

Hasn't been noted yet on this thread, but the Budweiser Macro-beer commercial was pretty terrible.

Liam Neeson and the First Ever Fantasy Draft were good (as has been said previously, you always win with a bear in a sombrero).

.@Nationwide my kid just ate a steak knife while i was online making fun of your commercial

From what I've seen nationwide's strategy seems to be "how dare you criticize us for raising awareness about child accidents!"

I thought Missy Elliot was awesome and you can never ever go wrong with dancing sharks.

If she wasn't singing, then that was very good lip syncing and a convincing track.

IMO, she lip synced everything but Firework, but could be wrong.

People get too in a tizzy about if someone lip syncs at a concert. They're there and you're seeing them in person. Most of the time, live vocals would be a disappointment anyway.

Am I missing Misdy Elliott's impact on music history somewhere. I still don't see why some think her appearing was a big deal.

Missy/Timbaland dominated pop music from 2001 to like 2005 and set Timbaland on that unstoppable streak til like 2008 when he ran out of steam. For my money, her and outkast really pushed out that unbearably glossed over muzak production in pop music in the late 90s. I think her influence really pushed up production which you saw in songs like when toxic dropped by Britney spears. Then Kanye probably took over after that, now I have no idea what the kids are doin YAR CLOUD WHY

As a beer drinker, I didn't like it. As a business person, I get what they were doing and thought they did a good job. It isn't going to convince any beer snobs to give Budweiser another try, but it will make their customers feel better about not being part of the "new beer culture".

Nationwide also had the "Invisible Mindy Kaling" commercial which was pretty good; problem was when their morbid dead child ad aired everyone forgot all about it.

"Throw like a girl, Run like a girl," etc. How many were expecting to see "Always" at the end of that ad?

How was that a good business decision? They're buying micro breweries left and right.

Those who were going to buy Bud before are still going to buy it, but that commercial most likely didn't win new customers, in fact, from the reactions I've seen it's just made them look worse.

She wasn't singing. I don't even think Kravitz had his guitar plugged in.

I thought it was all terrible, but I'm not into pop music or theater so it's not really my thing anyway.

as a professional singer, she was absolutely singing live. sorry bud.

I thought Katy Perry sucked and I was actually looking forward to her. The commercials definitely were a bit too serious this year but the Liam Neeson commercial was really funny and the viagra pill upgrading the car commercial was funny.

As if "as a professional singer" somehow gives your statement any merit. She wasn't singing live. it doesn't matter anyway. It's theater, not music.

I thought she was definitely singing for at least part of it.

Those sharks will live in my memory forever.

I'm not an idiot, I don't think she was singing the whole show, but I specifically remember her voice varying as she was walking down steps or bouncing or whatever. So either she was singing, or it was the most convincing track of all time.

You do realize that having guitars that broadcast to a wireless receiver is pretty standard in arena shows, right?
