Puk probably guaranteed himself a top 3 pick after today

I dunno. Even though he has superstar upside, he hasn't done much to prove It. I'd much rather draft a batter that is raking (like Kyle Lewis and Corey Ray) because they've proven they can dominate their current competition, same with pitchers.

Going for upside alone, without any results to back it up, is too risky to me. Look at Byron Buxton, wasn't he supposed to be a superstar? He's been a total scrub so far.

Perez can stay at SS. That's extremely valuable.

Why are scouts so pessimistic about Collins being able to be a catcher?

I don't read anything here that suggests he couldn't eventually develop into a decent catcher:

If he can, it won't be with the Sox. They haven't developed a position player to a MLB starter in about a decade. I would have 0 faith of them doing it with the hardest position to develop. Let's try something a little easier first.

So you don't want the Sox to draft any position players ever?

No?

Collins has the most advanced plate disciple in the entire class, and arguably the best over the last several drafts. He has strong hit and power tools, hits lefty, and he has improved every year within one of the best college programs around. Nothing is for certain but his profile suggests his floor is a solid if not spectacular lefty 1B/DH, with a ceiling of an offensive first catcher. I'd take that any day of the week, especially with the extra 1st round pick we get this year.

All of this. You get big lefty power with an advanced approach at the plate that can likely be a fast mover. Even if he doesn't have a position other than DH, that skill set in the Sox lineup is incredibly valuable.

Yep. Try him at catcher. If that doesn't work, try left, if not that, then try 1B. Hopefully his bat ends up being good enough to play at any position.

Collins is my guy at 10 if Ray isn't there.

Collins, Sheffield, Reynolds, Bowden is the dream for me.

Beckham looked like he was going to make it he went the advanced track played well for a couple of seasons but didn't pan out in long run. I watched him in his first spring training it was obvious that he was good or special.

Who would Ray compare to in the bigs? Adam Eaton? AJ Pollock?

Keith Law's comp was Ray Lankford.

If Ray/Mercer/Senzel aren't around, I'm pretty okay with Collins.

Man, I never realized Lankford had such solid career numbers

My guess as of today:

1. Phillies - Kyle Lewis

2. Reds - AJ Puk

3. Braves - Jason Groome

4. Rockies - Delvin Perez

5. Brewers - Corey Ray

6. A's - Nick Senzel

7. Marlins - Riley Pint

8. Padres - Blake Rutherford

9. Tigers - Zack Collins

10. Sox - Matt Manning

Moniak will definitely be in the top 10 somewhere

Sale and Hudson are about the extent of the quality starters they developed. Rodon is still in process and he was well developed when drafted. I doubt they'd have screwed up Schwarber had they chosen him instead.

One issue with the hitters, though, is that the Sox draft a lot of raw hitters in the first round.

If Collins' bat is as good as you hope, you probably don't want him catching anyway. If he could play 1B and DH and rake, that's not too bad.

Frank Thomas was an awful 1B. You can outhit being bad defensively especially with a DH.

I'm all on board with taking Collins #10

Law has his first mock draft up.

Has Sox taking Dakota Hudson at 10.

Also has Collins going 11 and Perez 14.

That would be frustrating, IMO

10. Chicago White Sox

Dakota Hudson, RHP

Mississippi State

I've heard the White Sox are on big college arms, especially Hudson and Georgia right-hander Robert Tyler. That said, I wonder if they'd roll the dice on Pint, given their willingness to take guys with great stuff but unusual aspects to their deliveries.

Tyler is someone they could possibly get at 26. And can we not bring in another UGa player with a first round pick :)
