I'd drop Flowers honestly. Soto can hit at the very least and his defense is ok. Flowers isn't particularly good at anything besides being Sale's personal catcher.

Except being one of the best pitch framers in the league. We'll all agree he sucks offensively but his pitch framing (along with the fact that their are basically no good catchers in baseball) are what make him passable.

He's one of the best pitch framers in the game, I assume that's why he starts so often.

He is on the market and we have a history of him. Technically he's a great platoon fit with one of our other catchers. He also brings a nice presence with him. I'd say it probably is, but I can't see the Sox just dropping one of Flowers / Soto and I also don't see us carrying 3 catchers (unless they plan on DH'ing Soto a bit in a platoon with LaRoche)?

Having Saladino and Sanchez both able to play 2B/SS/3B makes carrying a third catcher realistic. A utility infielder like Bonifacio was more necessary when the roster had Gillaspie and Johnson, who could each only play one IF position.

Adding AJ and platooning him with flowers and moving Soto to a DH platoon with LaRoche would be almost as good as adding a top line bat.

Why in the hell would we get a SP? That's the last thing we need, unless we're trading Q for a bat.

That doesn't even include Beckham who can play all three of those positions too.

Even Phil Rogers think Morosi has it backwards. I'm not saying Rogers knows it all but at least he understands this team.

@philgrogers: @jonmorosi says White Sox could add a rental SP. Bigger need is best bat available (Cespedes?) Their DHs are last in AL w/.680 OPS, 35 RBIs.

I truly believe we need to persue a three way deal, and get in on the Price deal between DET and LA. The two most impactful bats are on those teams with Puig and Cespedes. Unfortuantely I think that is the only shot we would have in landing either one, unless LA unloads a boat load of prospects to land Price and wants to re supply a bit and send Puig to us to replenish their system.

Other than Puig, Cespedes, and the two CarGos whose available? I think Boston would be willing but what would interest you guys. I know I would love to steal Yoan Moncada but there's no way they would deal him.

Wouldn't LaRoche still get most of the AB's in that platoon since he's a lefty?

You are letting their offense influence your judgement of their defense, just like Gold Glove voters. If Soto is OK defensively, Flowers defense shouldn't be described as anything but stellar.

We probably won't carry 3 catchers but it's absolutely the right move for this team. We have 4 players (5 including Emilio/Leury) who can play SS and Shuck can cover all of OF. That way Soto can get abs at dh playing vs lefties. Kottaras is sporting a .944 ops at AAA. Would rather see him too than Leury.

How is Flowers stellar defensively? Sure, he might be a good pitch framer, but he's not good at throwing out base stealers, which is important as a catcher IMO.

Supposedly the Sox were asking more for Samardjiza than Cincinatti got for Cueto, so I believe the report here that there were 2 deals in place were erroneous at best.

LaRoche's OPS against righties this year is .717, that's stomachable. Soto is OPS'ing like .950 or something against lefties.

What about the Sox buying low on Julio Teheran?

He's a wreck this season, but he's shown flashes of being good in the past and Coop could probably fix him.

Not to mention that he's young and cost controlled.

Flowers isn't going anywhere. Especially this season. Chris Sale wants him here.

I'm sure Sale also wants to win, and would accept an upgrade.

Is Cespedes a Free Agen my after this season?

This.

Like I've said a trillion times, Sale is good enough to pitch to anyone. He might be more comfortable pitching to Flowers, but COULD pitch to anyone.

yes

yes

Then I'm not sure I want him, cost a lot and wold be hard to resign.

Honestly Chris Sale could pitch to me and probably strike out 15 guys.

Most of them would be standing on first after I totally whiffed on his slider though.

San Diego looking to save some money. Kemp plus cash (LAD paying 3+ per year) SD pays additional 8 mill in 2017 and 18 and takes Danks. Danks due 15 million plus next year makes up difference for rest of this year and 2016. Danks could succeed in that ball park. Kemp doesn't really have split differential plays right. Avi platoons at dh with La Roche. Johnson comes up from AAA to take Danks spot.

We don't lose any prospects and last years of Kemp may not be pretty but if our cost is 10 per not bad. Last couple years could even be lhp dh after LaRoche gone

Kemp worries me, a lot. Not sure I would be willing to give up anything other than C prospects and someone like Danks to clear money. SD is going to clear payrll by including either upton or kemp to a SP so we could add Kennedy and kemp for s decent package but I don't know if I want him.

And there is a little trick to him if you want to re-sign him. His contract calls for him to be released, so you would have to re-sign him before he is released or he isn't eligible to sign with the team who released him until May 15th.

One name I haven't seen mentioned in rumors that make sense for the Sox...

Brett Lawrie

I wonder if he would be in play? He hits arb next year and has a couple of more years of control til free agency.
