The state of catching these days is pretty damn thin, so I guess this could do for a year.

I see Navarro or Rosario as the most likely replacement for Flowers.

 

Either one would be an upgrade. I'm so happy right now.

I think any negativity about this [signing Avila] is the result of the realization that Flowers will still have a primary role next year. Really though, everyone should have realized that months ago.

People on here look waaaaaay to into the whole Flowers is his personal catcher thing. Sale will be fine. Honestly, they'll probably bring in a right handed hitting, defensive first catcher for cheap to be his backup. Cheaper than what Flowers would make it should say.

Of course, all these years I wanted them to DFA Flowers and then I find out about pitch framing, decide I actually quite like him, and they DFA him.

Navarro had a 894 OPS against LH starters last year and batted 266 with a 715 OPS away from Toronto last season.

I'm not at all. He's terrible. I'd rather have Navarro. If I recall he hits lefties good over his career.

Look up his road splits. He would be a marginal upgrade and he is - no exaggeration - trash as a catcher. He's barely a catcher at this point.

Guessing Turner is hurt. We have an extremely bare 40 man with both open spots and lack of talent on the end. Doesn't make sense for him to go first.
