Perot was a harmless old man compared to Trump, although I smell what you are stepping in.

I would go so far to say that I would rather see a Cubs World Series than President Trump.

 

The two party system isn't a good thing and neither is the gridlock in Washington. I am actually voting republican in Illinois so there are people who can stand up to Michael Madigan. I am not big on Hillary but my conscience won't allow me to vote for Trump as well as my head.

This debate made me miss Joe Biden.

 

As far as Trump winning, that's becoming slightly less likely every day and it's actually been a fairly stable election showing a Clinton win since about July.

This debate was a snooze fest. I mean even more than VP debates usually are.

 

Only in American politics does style count more than substance, and this election, and hopefully ONLY this election, is one where one of the VP candidates can pretend he has an imaginary running mate who actually didn't say all the things he said, and pretty much lie about that for the entire 90 minutes, and it's going to be treated like it's not a big deal.

 

Pence's debate performance was basically "Donald Trump? Who the hell is that?"

Honestly, I could only stomach so much, but Kaine came off way too aggressive in the parts I saw. I prefer when candidates actually sit back and let each other talk.

Kaine allegedly has a very deep and personal dislike for what he views as pence's perversion of Christianity and ignored a bunch of his prep to go after him strongly. His debate makes more sense in that light.

Especially good this year because of who's at the top of the ticket.

It was the subtext - he was saying to a crowd of wealthy donors that all Obama supporters were moochers who refused to take responsibility for themselves (whatever percentage of people don't pay income taxes, they're not all Democrats, but Romney tied a direct line) and that he was going to ignore them as president. He spoke in stereotypes, not facts, and people took issue with how he talked about them, not whether he was technically right or wrong.

If you actually want to get into the policy parts of course, those 46.9% who "pay no taxes" are mostly paying the payroll tax, which is still a 10% slice off the top plus the behind the scenes part. It doesn't count because it doesn't hit rich people so it gets ignored.

 

I don't know whether you can use $900 million in losses to offset the payroll tax, but because it is capped to the first $100k of your income it doesn't matter when your income is in the millions. Interestingly, Clinton's proposal to establish some new version of the AMT would actually deal with situations like Trump - high incomes have their deductions limited, as would expanding the payroll tax.

Lots (all?) of Trump's empire is organized as S-Corps, so profits and losses all flow through to the owner(s). If Trump Casino, S-Corp loses $10M in a given year, it's going to flow through to his personal returns. There are financial reasons to structure companies these ways but it'd been a while since I took 1 semester of business law and I'm sure Jason or any of the other financial guys could explain it way better.

 

What's funny is all of the calling him a "genius" with the tax code. For some reason, I don't think Trump sits in his office until midnight on April 15th working on his tax return.
