I know I'm in the minority but I think the ramblings and such makes it fun and enjoyable. If all I wanted is to see the play and results, the mlb or yahoo apps will tell you that. I listen to the radio to enjoy it

I listen to almost every AL team's announcers through Gameday Audio, and they're definitely an acquired taste.

If you had no idea what was going on in the actual game itself and wanted second by second information/update, you'd probably be disappointed and have to listen for a long time to even know which team was winning or losing.

On the other hand, when the White Sox have been getting blown out the last 3 years, they've made it much more tolerable. Darrin is just out there with his singing and constant dingings of Farmer to see if he understands his cultural references. Farmer is more concerned with mentioning all of his personal acquaintances, talking about health issues (for natural reasons), Notre Dame, and jabbing DJ about his career or the time he pitched, etc.

It's a nice balance also because you have the hitter and the pitcher together, but in a more natural compare and contrast sort of way as opposed to Hawk and Stone, who are much more adversarial and tense with each other. Jackson's also a lot more humble and doesn't take himself so seriously...laid-back/easy-going, whereas with Hawk/Stone you have two Alpha Males together. Farmer believes he's an Alpha male, which makes it even funnier.

They've also been much more openly critical of mistakes/coaching, which is probably easier to get away with a smaller audience compared to t.v., and the fact that so many websites like Deadspin are just waiting on Hawk to say something inane or controversial.

When stone and farmer miss games I wonder if Jason takes them.

I'm with you in that minority. Most of the time I listen to DJ and Farmer on the radio while watching the game on TV with the volume muted.

Edit: I also loved the listening to Farmer and Stone together. The sarcasm between the two was great!

After hearing Benetti in that interview, I am extremely excited about his addition. Will be fun having two pairings and getting to contrast our old sound to our new one.

The people who like Farmer say they like his sarcasm and joking around but nobody mentions how he actually calls a game. It's horrible. He doesn't describe plays well at all. And his voice isn't made for play by play.

Time to move on.

Which is why him and Rooney were so good.

He is doing the Iowa State game on Saturday.

Great interview. Really looking forward to this addition. Also glad to see advanced metrics might make it to the broadcast.

He's doing the Michigan State-Iowa game tonight (Thursday) on ESPN.

Story in the Sun-Times today quoted Hawk as saying that 2016 may be his last year as a broadcaster even though he signed the contract extension. Hawk said he told Jerry that and also added that if the Sox have another year like in 2015, he's probably done.

No one tell Hawk!

He did Michigan State-Iowa Thursday night with Jim Calhoun.

He is very good -- even got Calhoun through it and Calhoun is rough and unpolished with monstrous ego.

He was really funny in that interview. He has that dry humor that I love and wont take it as far as say, Farmer.

Plus the guy is an uber-smart dude. Totally look forward to listening to his call.

Would anyone know how to contact him? I think it would be great for my students to talk with him and hear his story. Would I go through Brooks Boyer?

Does anyone else keep calling him benitendi? I can't stop doing it.

I would imagine if it wasn't Brooks, he would be able to tell you who to contact.

That's nice of him. I continue to hear that MIke Tirico is a world class guy when it comes to helping out people starting up on the career (tirico also mentioned in article).

I'm oddly excited to know what his HR call will be. Obviously we grew up with one of the most famous HR calls of all time, along with a host of other pretty popular phrases as well. I'm very curious to know if Benetti has his own call (I suppose I could research it) or if he will just use something standard like "And it's gone!".

Found some HR calls....

Wouldn't be surprised if he continued Halks call as a tradition and homage.

I hope its an incredibly verbose call "And That's...INTO THE AIR OVER THE WALL AND INTO THE SEATS OF DOZENS OF PEOPLE AS THEY CHEER AS THE SCOREBOARD MAN CHANGES THE NUMBER TO ACCOUNT FOR THE AFOREMENTIONED BALL CLEARING THE STANDS INTO THE PEOPLE AS WE CHEER"

I"d wear that shirt.
