February 10, 201610 yr http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/02/orio...i-gallardo.html Orioles will give up the 14th overall pick to sign Gallardo. I'd rather have Latos for $3 million than Gallardo for $$ and a pick. Yuck.
February 10, 201610 yr QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) Does this theoretically move us up in that comp pick? I believe it would. I do not see them signing any comp pick guys, so they would have to give up their first rounder, which would move everyone behind them up a pick. of course assuming we don't sign someone who requires us to give up our comp pick.
February 10, 201610 yr The Orioles make no sense. Why not offer Latos more money and get him instead? Gallardo isn't even that good anymore and the pick attached to him lowers his value even more.
February 10, 201610 yr Author QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) Does this theoretically move us up in that comp pick? Yes. Once Gallardo signs, the White Sox will have the 27th pick in the draft.

February 10, 201610 yr QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) I thought Gallardo was pretty good last year? By ERA, yes, but his peripherals are very mediocre. His K rate has been declining for years, and was under 6 last year. His walk rate is not great, and a big part of his success last year was a drop in HR rate, and given that his HR/FB% was well below his career average, that's pretty likely to be an aberration, especially considering he's now in the AL (yes I know he was in the AL this past year but that just makes it seem even more flukey). I wouldn't want to bet a draft pick and some decent money that it was no fluke.
February 10, 201610 yr No doubt the Orioles are desperate for pitching. Can't help but think this potential signing has a Ubaldo Jimenez feel to it. Gallardo pitching at Camden and against those tough ALE teams has disaster written all over it. Re-signing Chen and signing one of the FA outfielders would have been a smarter move than investing 160M+ in Davis. Glad I'm not an Orioles fan.

February 10, 201610 yr If I was a player, I would never be too optimistic about a contract agreement with Baltimore. There is always the physical which seems harder to pass than the bar exam. Edited February 10, 201610 yr by Dick Allen
February 10, 201610 yr QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) Probably removes another suitor for Fowler. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/baltimores-...er-opportunity/ Cameron argues that a Gallardo signing would make Baltimore more likely to sign Fowler, because they'd be giving up a less valuable pick for him.
February 10, 201610 yr QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 01:17 PM) Orioles are in a pretty s***ty state as an org. If I were their GM, I would have started rebuilding. Wieters took the QO, but they if they didn't sign Davis they would have had 2 comp picks instead of one. Now it's looking like they may sacrifice their first round pick along with the Chen pick (if they were to sign Gallardo and Fowler)
February 10, 201610 yr Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 1m1 minute ago Sources: Fowler possible for #Orioles if they complete Gallardo deal. Would be willing to part with second pick, currently No. 29. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 2m2 minutes ago #Orioles also like free agent Pedro Alvarez and #Reds’ Bruce in addition to Fowler, per sources. Might not have prospects to land Bruce.
February 10, 201610 yr QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 04:29 PM) Wait wha? Alvarez in OF or Davis moved to OF? Or Trumbo back to OF.

Baltimore's farm must be horrible if they don't have enough to land Bruce. Just a guess but I think Baltimore ends up signing Alvarez after they sign Gallardo. I seriously doubt they trade for Bruce or sign Fowler.
February 10, 201610 yr Buster OlneyVerified account @Buster_ESPN It's expected that if and when the Orioles' deal with Yovani Gallardo is finished, it'll be a 3-year deal in the range of $40-$45m
February 11, 201610 yr QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 09:20 PM) All the team needs is for the Cubs or anyone else to sign Fowler. You'd really rather have Avi as your starting RF than lose a late 1st round pick?
February 11, 201610 yr QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 09:29 PM) You'd really rather have Avi as your starting RF than lose a late 1st round pick? JS is all about draft picks and prospects. Pretty sure he hated the Frazier deal.
February 11, 201610 yr QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 09:29 PM) You'd really rather have Avi as your starting RF than lose a late 1st round pick? Yes, the Sox farm has really taken a hit over the course of the past year. Yes, they didn't lose their core guys but they lost some depth and not having a second and third round pick hurts. While I do think that Avi is a weak spot for the team and he's horribly out of position, let's not forget that he's only 24 years old and has only played one full season in the bigs. Lets give him another year to see where he's at. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 10:23 PM) JS is all about draft picks and prospects. Pretty sure he hated the Frazier deal. I did not like the Frazier deal at first (Yes, I will admit that I was upset to see Trayce go) but then I came to my senses and realized that the Sox gave up a bullpen arm, a pinch runner and a fourth outfielder (in other words scraps) to get an All Star third baseman. It's a great move for the Sox. Edited February 11, 201610 yr by Joshua Strong
February 11, 201610 yr I've decided I'm ok giving up the comp pick. If we sign Fowler and still aren't good, we should have a group of desirable players to move over the next few years that should bring in talent if things go south. Edited February 11, 201610 yr by soxfan2014
February 11, 201610 yr Thoughts and observations on the Orioles' push for Yovani Gallardo and Dexter Fowler http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles...0210-story.html I had forgotten about the Orioles signing Jimenez and Cruz a few years ago. Going by that, I guess the Orioles could be in on Fowler after all if they sign Gallardo. Really do not understand why they didn't re-sign Chen, just stupid.
