89 wins and an AL Central title.

And a big reason for the optimistic projection is the expectation we play significantly better again Central opponents.

I think the shift offensively with this team will be dramatic enough to increase our win total drastically.

I really really really like the optimism of this post! :gosox1:

I was going to put down 90, but then I remembered to subtract 15, since Robin is still the manager, subtract another 15 because KW is calling the shots, and finally, subtract another 15 because Jerry Reinsdorf owns this team. So 45-117.

+1

I don't think the dumpster dives during this past month acquiring Rollins, Jackson, and Latos are going to move the needle much, and any improvement over last year's debacle is going to require players like LaRoche, Garcia and Cabrera all playing better than they did last year. The law of averages suggests that one or more might, so let's hope for that. Meanwhile, the contributions of Frazier will obviously have a positive effect, and I think Lawrie will be a plus. Still not sure what to expect out of this catching tandem, though.

That strikes me as pretty optimistic for some.

Back from the dead to chime in. . .

88 wins in 2016. Good enough for at least a WC spot.

88 wins and the team is in the race until the final week.

The key will be the first month of the season. They need a fast start. After the Orioles series they need to be 15-9 possible 14-10. If this season starts iff crappy, I just don't see it turning around.

QFT

While I'm generally optimistic in the spring, relying on oft injured, old and cheap pickups doesn't generate much hope for a playoff berth. Defense might still be a problem but the starting lineup is more solid as is the bench and bullpen. I see improvement to 84 wins but missing the playoffs unless we have good luck with injuries and Rodon can emerge along with one bat doing better than expected (Lawrie, Avi are my choices). Help might also come before the trade deadline.

85

I think 82-83. Offense will be better. Not sure what to think of defense. Starting pitching will be worse and bullpen better.

There's room for Sale and Rodon to improve from last year, especially Rodon.

Danks might regress a bit, but we've long come to expect little out of him.

So then you're essentially comparing Latos/Erik Johnson with Shark's 2015.

All things considered, they should be a notch or two better, especially if we get our expected improved defensive play in the outfield.

I was going to say 89 before I even saw the poll choices, so that's what I'm sticking with.

:cheers

75-87.

So last year they were really a 121-win team???

Put me down for 86-76

I went with 83, and I think I may be over-optimistic. But Mrs. Al Lopez's Ghost always says "Did you think they'd win 99 games in 2005?"

So if they want to surprise me, great.

103 wins.

La Roche to have a career year.

Cabrera to win MVP.

Quintana to win the CY Young.

Royals to get more suspensions after trying to throw at Lawrie.

Cubs to go 82-82.

Now who wants to drink my Coolade?

I'll say 88.

I'd be more surprised if they're bad this season than if they're good. Last year, it seemed like nobody hit, especially early in the season. Hopefully they can hit early and not waste a bunch of good starts like they always seem to do early in the season.

Tex & Middle Buffalo - more proof that great minds really do think alike.

By the way, I'm pretty sure that's the avatar Tex had when I joined SoxTalk in 2005.

Did you ever read the gamethreads? It was a 140 win team.

My realistic guess is 86-76, which will be good enough for the 2nd Wild Card spot. They'll beat Texas in that game and lose to Houston in the ALDS.
