Love this comment by Eaton in the article:

‘To be honest with you, we just panicked. We had this huge group of talent, guys who had done tremendous things year after year, and when we got swept by Kansas City that first series (outscored 27-7 the first round games), it just played in our mind.

“We never did recover.’’

and that is why i would advice caution and to tempered their enthusiasm.... in other words do not become over confident. at least until mid june.

We were .500 in mid-late May last year, and that big winning streak in July was fun, but other than that, the quote from Eaton makes sense.

Whatever " it " is, this team seems to have an actual personality now. Last year's team looked lethargic and doped up on valium, but this year's team definitely has more life and energy going on. At this point, the only concerns I have are the last two spots in the rotation but otherwise, this team is pretty solid and should play much better Baseball. Even Avi shows some new life and vigor in his game.

very nice.....

ref to the pitching, i agree, i like the idea from the beginning of getting and finally signing latos. now, i really want another arm. what is avail still is a simon.

they really need to get another pitcher, for the in case situation.

I don't know how it will play out, but the Sox brought in a lot of guys who have been regulars in the playoffs.

I can see that, regarding the quote by Adam.

There was a lot of them apologizing for the season almost right away. That's a weird response to give in sports mid season. I think they'll have more confidence now that even with a slump, they will hit.

I like the quote "they're taking it a little personal too". Shows that these guys definitely have a chip on their shoulders after last year.

At this point, I seriously doubt the Sox add another pitcher. Right or wrong, they are going to count on Danks, Turner, Jahnson and Latos to take care of the last two spots in the rotation.

As for Alfredo Simon, no thanks. Overall, Simon was worse than Danks last year. I would take any one of Danks, Turner, Latos or Johnson over Simon.

I think the Sox end up starting the season with Sale, Q, Latos, Rodon and Danks as the starting rotation with Turner as the long man. If Danks or Latos has problems, Johnson or Turner will get a chance.

I really hope they learned from last season. I really like this team. Wish we had one more big bat but we'll see how they perform early. Have to start off fast

When I see articles like this, I can't help but think "f*** Jeff Samardzija."

Yep, sounds like he was just as much a disappointment in the clubhouse as he was on the field.

HUH????

Samardzija's competitiveness will play well at AT&T Park. Had he continued his football career, he would have been a perfect fit for the old Raiders, as he wears his emotions on his sleeve and plays off the crowd. Samardzija fought with Lorenzo Cain and the Royals last April, showing teammates he had their backs in an incident sparked by Yordano Ventura.

Just win baby. Hard to believe a bunch of pro baseball players could take a single three game series that tough but it did seem like last year a lot of s*** went wrong at the beginning. Sale was hurt so they didn't have that stopper, Robertson was battling a dead arm or whatever that limited his availability, they had a lot of rain outs and then the stupid cancelled games in Baltimore.

This year, for once, it would be nice if they could come out hot and be five or so games over .500 when May rolls around instead of halfway buried like usual where they need to win 10 or 12 or something just to get back to .500

I never got the impression that Shark's teammates didn't like him. Just the opposite, actually.

My understanding is that Shark didn't like working with Coop.

There were a few comments during offseason that a few players weren't as positive in the clubhouse as the club expected. Had to be Samardzija and/or LaRoche

Is there any reason why it would have to be one of those two?

Because the implication was it was the new additions from last year, and Melky has been called one of the clubhouse leaders

Robertson, Bonifacio, Duke? Could be one of them

Yes, the implication were that he didn't like Cooper, didn't pitch well and pouted and complained all season. It's not that the players didn't like him personally he just brought the clubhouse down.

That's pretty scary to me. What's to stop him from folding at the first sign of adversity again?
