  1. QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 30, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) We may be doing all the Yankee haters a favor cuz I believe that in a short series, the Twins could eliminate the Yanks. I dont know if anyone past Johan Santana in the Twins starting rotation can hold down the Yankees lineup.

    The Office

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 30, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) Finally watched the new episode last night. I liked it well enough. Michael was less abrasive, and the twist with his party failing was kind of nice. But he still doesn't do much of anything to make you think he is a decent guy at all. If anything the show makes you feel like you yourself are a better person because you can find sympathy for such a prick. I think you are misunderstanding Michaels character completely. He is supposed to be abrasive, insensitive, dumb, and completely unaware of his offensive nature. He has been that way since show #1. The hilarious part of his character is that he somehow holds on to his job despite how completely inept he is. The more abrasive and clueless Michael is, the funnier the show is (usually). The decent guy on the show is Jim, the wierd guy is Dwight(although most of the background characters are equally as wierd, they just arent as prominent), Ryan is the intern/whipping boy, etc... I think if you spent less time trying to view Michael as a decent guy you would find the show much more funny. The background characters in the show are coming out this season with their own identities, the drunk lady, the gay guy(Oscar), Ryans crazy girlfriend, the kleptomaniac, etc.

    The Office

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Sep 29, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) I agree as well on the Roy and Pam thing. This year hasn't seemed as funny as last year to me. Joy is a trip on Earl - she plays the white trash character to a T haha. She has had a little practice: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0204350/ If anyone has seen "Poor White Trash", it isnt that great of a movie, but it has its moments. It is sort of a template for My Name is Earl. Pressly pretty much plays the same part

    The Office

Has anyone been watching thus far? Once again, this show has me rolling just about every time I watch it. Im wondering a few things, is Jim getting ready to exit the show or are they going to bring him back to the office to make one more move on Pam(who quietly broke off her engagement, I must have missed that). Dwight is still my favorite. that guy plays the part perfectly.
  5. QUOTE(TLAK @ Sep 29, 2006 -> 06:48 AM) I can think of no man who accomplished more in baseball than Frank Robinson. Youngest player in MLB 1956. Oldest player in MLB 1976. Rookie of the year 1956 NL MVP 1961 AL MVP 1966 AL Triple Crown 1966 WS MVP 1966 ASG MVP 1971 2 World Series rings 586 career HR Player Manager 1975 HOF (Player) 1982 ML Manager 16 seasons Manager of the Year 1982 Presidential Medal of Freedom 2005 That is extremely impressive. Dont forget his 2 minute staring contest with that umpire last year, one of my favorite highlights of the entire year. The look on Robinsons face was priceless
  6. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 11:46 PM) Time to find Mariotti's columns from last postseason. I don't think he was celebrating the title calling the team all these things. He wanted the last word and got it. That's why sports figures should never argue with those who sell ink by the barrel. They get the last word every time. These "near chokers" as he classlessly called last year's Sox made his company a lot of money last year with all their books and special sections celebrating these near chokers' title. I can't believe a grown man added this comment in his rip column "There was a moment in Boston when A.J. Pierzynski caught a foul pop, appeared ready to hand it to someone in the stands, then teased the poor fans by keeping the ball as only A.J. would. It was typical of a club that had a high opinion of itself but couldn't back it up." Tease the poor fans? Wanna bet one of those poor Boston fans was filling AJ with the F bomb the entire game??? Give me a break, please. I think if you were to dig up his columns from last year you would find the same thing that Eric Zorn found out last year: Jay is a serious flip flopper on any issue, team, person, column. Adding to the issue that Ozzie called him a f**, it only fueled Mariotti's fire. Seriously, I wouldnt be surprised if Mariotti is writing about Ozzie's "infamous slur"(as Jay loves to call it) in 2008. The guy just loves to perpetuate grudges.
  7. Early May with a bad back? And yet Konerko still has very strong numbers, despite how much he has fallen off lately. I wonder what has been wrong with his back.
  8. I dont care how staged this "sport" is, but John Cena got his ass whooped by William Regal last night. Even Fit Finlay looked like he was somewhat pulling his punches last night, but Regal was blasting Cena bigtime, and Cena had his arm tied behind his back. It looked extremely painful.
  9. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) I have a source that's saying Cena will be joining DX. Not sure exactly when, but it's a pretty believable source. Understandable. McMahon has been trying to put over Cena for over a year now, Cena just isnt a likeable guy to the WWE faithful. DX is still getting a big pop when they show up, McMahon is probably just trying to transfer some of the DX goodwill onto Cena. If DX develops a NWO-like stable im gonna throw up. Batista should be coming back to Raw soon, I am thinking. He just hasnt been the Smackdown draw they wanted, and Batista just doesnt seem enthused about being there.
  10. QUOTE(GaelicSoxFan @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) Evidently, the Jarrett family has forgotten how Russo drove WCW into the ground. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 05:40 AM) Technically, when Russo had control of creative in WCW, the ratings went up. He lost control for a while due to suit pressure and the ratings went back down. Then he had to dig them out of the hole again...The death of WCW is more on the suits who thought that wrestling was too "low-brow" for TNT/TBS and therefore did whatever they could to get it off more than it is on Russo. See, I completely disagree with this. When Russo got to WCW, The NWO/Good Ole Boys network was in complete control of the show. The inmates were running the asylum. Russo tried to mix things up and move the title from Hogan/The NWO, and the NWO stopped listening to the creative team. Does anyone remember when Jarrett was supposed to fight Hogan for the title, and Hogan got into the ring and literally laid down in the middle of the ring and let Jarrett pin him, gave him the title, then they gave Jarrett an NWO shirt? The very next show Russo opened up the show and made an announcement that the fans would never see Hogan, Nash, Hall, etc. on WCW ever again because they were bad for the show(on the boards, there was alot of talk that Hogan was really pissed about having to lose the title, so they basically bought off Jarrett). At the time, I had no idea what the hell was going on, but I had a friend who was really into wrestling that explained to me what actually happened. Russo basically let all of the high paid stars of the company walk and collect their paychecks because they were ruining the show by running the show. The only problem was that the fans didnt know what was going on behind the scenes and basically had their reasons for watching the show taken away from them without being truthfully explained why. It was a bold and risky move by Russo, but it really had nothing to do with the demise of the WCW, it was already dying out. The programs were extremely stale and had no more continuity, and Russo was basically supposed to be a bandaid on a gaping wound. Then Turner lost his nerve and sold.
  11. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 09:04 AM) Trading Jon Garland would be the bane of stupidity. Unless it gets us Erik Bedard (Garland + prospect) in return I want no parts of it. I am not a fan of Willis...he would have to improve his complimentary pitches to succeed in the AL, he's young and talented, but still a ? mark going to the AL I just thought this was hilarious. The bane of stupidity, the nemesis of stupidity, the opposite of stupidity. In other words: Smart. LOL, I love it when people post like that
  12. if by pictures they mean computer generated artistic renditions.....
  13. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 07:45 PM) Well, all they have to do is become a slutty, lazy-eyed, ferret-bodied hotel heiress dipsh!t who will do literally anything to stay in the public eye. The good news is, only 120,000 retards fell for this crap. The bad news is, 120,000 retards fell for this crap. LMAO
  14. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 07:30 AM) I liked one Sonic Youth song ever. It was a song off Dayrdeam Nation, and I can't remember the title now. LOL, thanks for all the help, Critic. lol
  15. I want to give Sonic Youth a good shot, can anyone recommend a good "starter" album or an album that would best sum up Sonic Youth to someone who has very limited knowledge of the band and its songs?
  16. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:19 AM) hey, didnt I say it was "BITTERSWEET"? And I just read an article and Big Frank actually used the same words, "Bittersweet". The irony and reason were talking about Thomas is, well, he helped doom our playoff chances. Hows that for a hollywood ending? Couldnt have been scripted better Wow. Thats just special. You guys are like, meant to be. I mean, its just special, man.
  17. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) Sorry ...........I'm still a FRANK THOMAS FAN, if you couldnt smile watching the Best Sox Hitter ever ..... Hmmm, boston fans must smile every time Johnny Damon gets a hit against the Red Sox
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) Jason Avant YES!!!! Oh how I miss White Sox Josh....
  19. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 11:57 PM) also really happy to be able to play all those great nintendo, super nintendo, nintendo 64, sega, and turbo graphix games again fixed
  20. Isnt Scott Eyre in the same boat? Im fairly sure he has had to take A.D.H.D drugs to keep himself under control. Its a tough line to toe, because these guys have a serious problem and it is tough to let them get the help they need because it is considered cheating by the league.
  21. QUOTE(cgaudin @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) Word......... Thome is country strong, and he never gets cheated while taking his swings, which is exactly the problem. But taking him out of the lineup means Pods, Anderson, and Uribe will need to be replaced with more productive hitters. I've said all along that I didn't like the Sox reliance on the HR. They need a more fluid offense that can put pressure on the basepaths. I translate that into "Please let Kenny trade for Carl Crawford if possible"
  22. QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) I sometimes state I've given up on this team, but I'm shackled to them. I won't be liberated until their season ends. This is the first thing I think you have ever said that I completely agree with. Last year was the initial high, the good stuff. Now we are addicted and just want that feeling again, even though we arent getting it we still keep going back.......Its a sad addoctopm
  23. QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) I really have nothing against Indiana. This is huge for Kill and Co. I'm sure Indiana fans remember the Salukis beating the Hoosiers at SIU Arena a few years ago. SIU b-ball is going to be top notch. They should be ranked top 15, at least top 20. Go Dawgs!!! That was the team that went to the Sweet 16, that was the most exciting season in Saluki history. I will never forget watching the Salukis come back from being down 30-11 to Georgia in the second round of the tournament in Chicago. They spanked the Bulldogs that day, spanked Bobby Knights Texas Tech team two nights before, and gave Uconn a run for their money before bowing out against the Huskies(A team with Ben Gordon and Emeka Okafor on it, among others).
  24. SIU broke a 23 year and 20 game losing streak against division 1A opponents by defeating Indiana 35-28 today in Indiana. They also were the first Gateway conference team to ever defeat a Big Ten opponent. Needless to say, Carbondale is quite giddy about this, any sort of exposure for Saluki athletics is big for SIU. I know Indiana isnt much in the way of Big Ten teams, but this is a great start for the Football Salukis, who are looking to make the Division 1AA playoffs for the 4th year in a row. I know there are a few Saluki faithful around the site(Brian and Rowand44 to name a few), and one IU alum in particular(Aboz!) who might like to have a little discussion, especially since Chris Lowery and the mens basketball team is heading up to IU in a few months to take on Kelvin Sampson and the recruiting exceptions
  25. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) Nintendo once again making a great system. I didn't mind the Game Cube but I felt it was clearly inferior to other systems just because they didn't have a lot of the games that interest me besides sports ones. But this is great, I love the old Nintendo games, it'll be fun to play them again. You should check out some of their lesser known titles, they have a lot of "clever" games, for lack of a better word. Games like Chibi-Robo, Pikmin, Viewtiful Joe, and Harvest moon among others are just a bit different than games that PS and Xbox offer. Basically, Nintendo forgoes graphics and overall console power for innovation and intelligence in games. This is a tradeoff that I dont mind one bit.
