  1. What a tool. To me, the money shot in the article is this: But Drake was different, he says: "the exception to the rule." In other words: I know no one else can bring their kids to work all the time and I understand I was lucky to be paid a gazillion dollars to play a game, but it's okay because this is MY kid we're talking about and he's awesome. So in other works, despite saying 'I get it' a thousand times I really don't. Oh, and I don't care for schools and their fancy book learnin'.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 9, 2016 -> 11:40 AM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 4m4 minutes ago Chicago, IL Adam Eaton joining his wife who is in labor with their first child. Congratulations to their family! So if it's a boy will he be named Drake?
  3. Lynchburg has a player named Sicnarf Loopstok. That is all.
  4. A good-fielding lefty second baseman with who never strikes out...sounds like he's the Cuban Nellie Fox. I'm in.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) --Here's one people will think is nuts: Danny Hayes hits well enough in AAA that he becomes an option as LHH DH/1B option for the big club. Sees Chicago in 2016. Yup, that's nuts. Hayes hit .248 with just 7 HRs as a 24 y/o in AA. The season before he was ok in Kanny despite being fairly old for the league--certainly nothing special. I love the walks too but I just don't see the bat. Of course, I hope I am completely wrong.
  6. I like this move. As someone upthread pointed out, Rollins had a decent 2nd half so perhaps he still has something in the tank. And if he doesn't...on a minor league deal who cares?
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 09:18 PM) really.... i really thought it would be todd ritchie. Ritchie was bad, but he was only with the Sox for 1 year. We had to endure Navarro for 3 full seasons...ouch.
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 04:55 PM) i think really came from Britt Burns and Richard Dotson. They were borderline great until the 1983 season and either retired from injury or couldn't pitch effective again. It was also his first few season of being the Chairman of the team. Burns retired after he was traded to the Yankees in 1985, which by some measures was his best year. Dotson had a weird pec injury if I remember correctly, but he remained a serviceable pitcher for a number of years after his prime. In fact, I remember Dotson as being the only pitcher who was as good in '84 as he was the previous year, up until the all star break at least. He was 11-4 w/2.64 era on July 4th and ended the season 14-15 w/3.59 era. Now, if you want to argue that the huge (for the time) contract he gave to Floyd Bannister, who outside of '83 was a huge disappointment...I could see that. But not Burns and Dot.
  9. We do this thread every year, and every year the correct answer is Jaime Navarro. Factor in his salary, playing time, attitude, opportunity cost and general suckiness--his best ERA+ with the Sox was 81!--no one can hold a candle to him in my opinion. His only redeeming quality was that we got Eldred and Valentin for him, leading to the successful 2000 team. Otherwise...yuck. He was the worst.
  10. I really like this trade. Lawrie is cheap, controllable, he still has some upside and he can play 2nd or 3rd. Even duplicating his numbers from the past few years translates into a huge upgrade, at either position. Plus as mentioned he plays with some fire--something the team has definitely been lacking. Usually the A's seem to get the better of trades with the Sox but this time...I really like the move.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 07:09 PM) what is your opinion on Bobby Dalbec, 3B, Arizona and Mike Shawaryn, P, Maryland , i know it is early, i was wondering. but yeah, Garrett is a pitcher i was keeping on the back burner to keep an eye on to see how he does as well as Shawaryn who i believe had a forearm surgery of some sorts. I'll like Dalbec a lot more if he improves his contact rate with a full year of focusing only on playing 3rd...hopefully his days on the mound are over so he can concentrate on his hitting. I like Shawaryn, though I'm not sure I'd take him at 10 and I can't imagine he'll be around in the 30s or whenever our next pick will be.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 12:58 PM) That article was... why did I read that? That was awful. I'm pretty sure that writer knows nothing about how the draft works. Oh man, that article has it all! Atrocious writing, comical grammar, a complete lack of insightful commentary plus laughable projections. It reads like a string of semi-coherent Yogi Berra-isms. Some of my favorites: Chicago needs a catcher and Collins is right there with Okey as a College Bat that could be in the mix with Chris Okey and Nick Banks to be the top College bat selected in June's 2016 MLB Draft. (sic, all of it) Polak can play catcher, first base, second base, shortstop, or infield. Drake Fellows should have gone 10 picks earlier. I didn't know where to put him in this mock so he fell 10 picks. Pint also displays an 82 mile per hour knuckle curveball and an 85 mile per hour changeup that is 30 miles faster than the 55 mile per hour fastball by Alec Hansen. Robert Tyler's 2016 draft stock will be defined by Tyler's progress in 2016 next Spring. Right now Robert Tyler is a top 5 pick in our secon 2016 MLB Mock Draft after being a top 5 pick in our first round pick in our previous mock. Garrett had Tommy John's Surgery...
  13. Despite the 'improvement' over last year, this was a much more frustrating season that last year IMHO. I had no expectations for the Sox in '14, and they merely lived up (down?) to those expectations. At least seeing Abreu become one of the best hitters in the game took the sting off of their record. This year, I came into the season with hope...hope which the Sox systematically found creative and unique ways to club out of me. The losing streak to open the season, the no replay challenge game in Detroit, Shark proving to be nothing but chum, unbelievable apathy and lethargy the first half of the year, an almost laughable lack of fundamentals and of course the moribund leadership style we've all come to love so much throughout the RV years. Etc, etc, etc. Worst of all, however, is the knowledge that it will be years if ever before any accountability is dealt out to the Sox leadership team. There is zero evidence to indicate JR has any desire to cut bait with what is an obviously failed model. Hahn is still new enough to his role to have the benefit of the doubt in my mind, but the same most emphatically can not be said for KW, Robin, and Buddy Bell. Could it be any clearer that those three have been under-performing for years in their respective roles? The Sox have one of the best hitters and one of the best pitchers in the game, with both locked into extremely team-friendly contracts, and still...no playoffs. No post season. No pennant chase or even race for a wildcard slot. Hell, no .500. record even. Here we are at the end of another abortion of a season with little reason to expect next year will be much better than this one. /sigh
  14. Navarro in a landslide--he combined a terrible attitude, horrific performance, and the opportunity cost of signing him over Clemens. Tough to beat all that, though Royce Clayton does deserve a (dis)honorable mention.
  15. I'm a huge Eddie Alvarez fan. I know he's old for a prospect, but check out his stats his first 162 pro games: ABs R H 2b 3b hr bi w k sb-a ave oba slg ops 605 118 188 39 7 10 78 113 115 60-84 .311 .419 .448 .867 Not bad for a guy who hadn't played any kind of ball in years prior to last summer. I don't expect Alvarez to maintain that power as he moves up the system, but how nice would a speed/on base combo like his look at the top of the Sox lineup? Especially with Eaton finding a power stroke, a lineup starting with Alvarez/Eaton/Abreu could be the best 1-2-3 we've had in some while.
  16. I thought adding Bonifacio was a solid move at the time, but this move is long overdue.
  17. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) His career goal is to make the majors and walk 100 times in a season. How great is that. He'll never fit in with the Sox with that attitude. What about 'aggressiveness'!?! I'm sure the off season plan is to have Alvarez review all of Alexei and Avi's ABs so he can learn the Sox Way...either that or he'll get traded to an organization that actually values people who can get on base.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 09:40 AM) I think we're really grasping at straws to find reasons to keep Ventura as manager. His time as manager has been a disaster. The team was ill-prepared coming out of spring training. We saw it. He's managed a team that folded in a weak division in 2012. He's had teams that did quit--2013. 99 losses? C'mon. I'm hoping that with his career earnings and relationship with Reinsdorf and the organization, he'll step aside as manager and be "reassigned within the organization". It's time for a change, and really, there's no good reason to argue this point anymore. this. my thoughts exactly. It's time for a change, and RV has to go. Same for KW IMHO, but I just don't see that happening unless Toronto makes a move for him... I really hope they get rid of Buddy Bell as well.
  19. Of course. This team is so miserable, even when they managed to win they did so in a way that ultimately is going to screw them over. Ugh, what a crappy year it has been for the Sox.
  20. RIP Billy the Kid. He was one of my dad's favorites, right up there with Minnie and Nellie. I met Pierce briefly a couple of times and he was a really classy guy...loved the organization through and through.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:17 AM) you do got a point, but the results are too incontinent.... I've had incontinent results, and it ain't pretty... (just messin with ya' )
  22. After this and the Detroit/BJ's trade today, I'm trying to find a Sellers/Price joke but its just not there. Someone help me out!
  23. In 111 professional innings covering 2 years, Brian Clark has allowed exactly 1 home run. Not too shabby...
  24. Eddie Alvarez is quickly becoming my favorite prospect in the system, being the only person in the whole organization with any plate discipline: 75 w in 94 games, incl. 6 in his 1st 5 at W-S. I know his age is working against him big time, but I am really pulling for him. The dude gets on base.
