But you should pitch exclusively down in the zone, brah!

I bet Nova doesn't even make it to July with the Sox. He's going to be worse than Giolito.

People are moving nova to the pen because of a spring training game. Jeeze.

For sure, this bodes well for a write-in All Star candidate.

Mendick walks, second baserunner of the game.  Robert up.  Luis flies out to LCF, 3/10 now.  Chacin out of the game, thank god.

Fine. A lot can happen 2.5 years.  They consistently mis-evaluate these veterans...I wonder how much work on the analytics and film they do prior to acquisition.

Today tells us nothing about what nova will do in 2019.

Thanks KW/Hahn, some truly uplifting stuff to hang our hats on.

As to your point, sure, just like Chacin pitching just like he did last year on a playoff team is completely coincidental.

Believe as you wish.  This game (so far) isn’t causing anyone to look forward optimistically to the season in any facet, or line up at the ticket office.  Period.

Spring is supposed to be the season of hope, not despair.

listening to Eucker retell the Covey (original Brewers’ pick before the diabetes diagnosis sabotaged him) story...that’s entertaining/uplifting, at least.

Point me to the Spring Training game that has ever done that.

Last spring:

Adam Engle hit 380 with an 1100 OPS

Matt Davidson hit 330 with a 1000 OPS

Skole hit 311 with a 950 OPS

Chris Volstad threw 14 innings and gave up 0 runs

Bruce Rondon threw 5 innings and walked 1 guy

Giolito threw 17 innings with a 2 ERA and 17ks.

You get where this is going

So you’re saying terrible results should have the opposite effect in the regular season this time?

Don't forget Engel and Tyler Flowers in AFL.

Giolito last spring...

Wait... are you trying to argue spring training results do or don't signify anything? What the hell is going on.

Many argued that Giolito was all set to dominate based on how well he looked at the end of 2017 and with increased velocity in ST 2018.

Those people were dumb. If your analysis is 'He looked good/bad in Spring' it needs to be thrown out.

Jimenez with a gift double...Eucker arguing that Stokes should have caught it.

Adolfo in as PR for Jimenez.

6-2.  Mendick up.

Nelson k’s the side with 91-92 and his curve...huge step in his comeback, apparently.

I warned everyone this was coming.......If Eloy hits .240/.300/.725 this yr will everyone be as willing to throw Eloy under the bus as they've done with Moncada?

I don't trust any hitter that has spent a significant amount of time in the Sox org to do anything immediately when called up.

You warned everyone what was coming ? Eloy would hit poorly in spring training ? I need to know what the warning was.

Eloy was going to struggle at some point. Whether it was in spring training or the regular season doesn't matter. I'm just wondering what the general reaction is going to be when it happens. even  the best players go through slumps, regardless of whether it is poor luck or just sucking.

It only tells us people have more to gripe about in ST then tell us later on see I told you he would suck in the AL. My goodness this board is in a sour mood. Get over Machado already. I know everyone feels like Charlie Brown when Lucy pulls the football away and good ol' Chuck ends up flat on his back once again. I keep hearing that it's not we lost Machado it's how we lost him because the Sox front office is inept. We all know it's more because you and I feel like a bunch of Charlie Brown's who gets duped year after year.

So why shouldn’t we be pissed if we get duped every year?

Exactly. If it happens to be right out of the gate, that is what I worry for the collective mental health of the fanbase. If Eloy comes up and struggles until August or September, the entire fanbase will collectively lose their shit, prove JR right, that this fanbase can't take a rebuild, and we will be doomed to another decade plus of mediocrity as they trade all of their talent away for a "quick fix" and end up with a 72-78 win team again, while their young players go flourish in other organizations.  I warn everyone, don't lose your patience or you will be sorry.

Thought we were catching up there for a moment. Gameday acting pretty spazzy lately on my tablet but it's just spring training.
