I’ve answered the question in other threads. Option 1 would be JDM. Option 2 would be Castellanos. Option 3 would be Moustakas.

I've seen this several times now. According to BRef, JDM can opt out after 2020 and 2021.

I will point out that Puig hits right-handed, is a clubhouse cancer, and isn’t very good.  Personally, I would rather have Avi back, if we’re getting a similar skill set.

This. He would destroy the culture that is being built and is so crucial as the foundation to a championship and sustainable winning ballclub.

Then how is it possible for HoF manager Terry Francona to deal with him...?

He’s “okay” for just a couple of months?   Because CLE has been the definition of a playoff contender, and it’s not like they don’t take this character factor into consideration, running off Bauer.

They arguably have a similar number of Latin American players on their roster.

Yasiel Puig just isn’t good enough to deal with his baggage.

And yet Francona dumped the Cy Young-caliber Bauer to add Puig (+) to his roster.

lol no, they added Franmil Reyes and Logan Allen first and foremost.. Presenting the deal as Bauer for Puig+  is just hilarious.

What does Logan Allen have to do with winning anything...he’s not even a Top Ten prospect in SD.

Reyes has 68 bats since the trade.  Puig has 72.

And Puig has been hitting cleanup or out of the 5/6 hole, Reyes usually hits lower in the lineup.

Bauers "character" had little to nothing to do with why they shipped him.  They didnt want to pay him 20+ million dollars in his last year of arb while they have younger cheaper pitching available.

Reyes and Allen were the guys with the most value in that trade. Where they hit in the order is irrelevant.

They added Puig as a cheap upgrade for their atrocious outfield. They did not specifically trade Bauer to acquire Puig, to argue that is bonkers.

He wouldn’t have been traded this season if he hadn’t thrown that ball over the CF fence at Kauffman in anger.

They could just have easily traded Kluber over the last 12 months if that’s the route they wanted to go.

Kluber is 33.  You aren't getting that value for him.

How many times have you watched Reyes in the OF?  This is one of those cases where people look at his homer totals and assume he’s an everyday player when he’s not, which is why the Padres kept Renfroe instead.

And you’re arguing Puig is getting more playing time this year because he’s...what is your explanation?

Finally, Logan Allen will never make it as a member of that rotation...he’s garbage.  He wasn’t even in the Top 7-8 in SD for future starting rotation members.

If they traded him 12 months ago they would have gotten even more back.  Bauer was at peak value then and they held onto him...until his immaturity finally pushed him out when Francona  could no longer tolerate the constant distractions.

And 33 is old for a pitcher now?

Reyes is a DH with huge power with 5 years of control,. You seriously think Puig as a rental has more value to be the centerpiece of that trade?

You are talking about a team trading away their Ace in Kluber before the season began when they were expected to run away with the division.  That is not what happened, and they didn't know what Bieber and Plesak were going to be.  They traded from a surplus, expensive position, for a need.  It was reported by multiple outlets they did not want to pay Bauer 20+ million in arb.  It has nothing to do with him throwing a ball into the outfield.

So your argument is that Ricky is headed to the HoF?  That Puig is good enough to be worth the distraction?  That Puig is actually not bad in the clubhouse?  I am not clear here.

Come on Caulfield, that trade was not about this year for the Indians no matter much you love and hype up Puig.

If Puig was acquired by the White Sox, it would be the end of the franchise, clubhouse and chemistry destroyed, etc.

Puig goes to Cleveland now with an excellent manager in Francona and crickets.

Why is it that we panic about the idea of letting Abreu go...or adding Puig, like Chernobyl will result?

Is Renteria really not capable of managing the clubhouse...or is really that fragile/combustible?

Why are you so obsessed with Puig?  He’s not even that good of a player...

3/$60M max, maybe even a little less.  If you believe he’s a five or even a four win player, that’s a bargain IMO.

I would think 3/54 would even get it done. But the guy is a machine catching games. He would have to agree to reduce his catching duties because he usually breaks down every year in 2nd half. This year he had 19 Hr at the break and has 1 since.

100% agree.  At his age, he shouldn’t be catching 140 games.
