For almost a decade, Frank was always on the team and our lone rep. Then he couldn't buy himself a ticket into it in the 2000s. He had good years in 2000 and 2003 and didn't even get on the team. What a shame.

Actually half a decade from 1993-1997. Only 5 all-star appearances for one of the best right handed hitters ever in the modern era. The PED's guys took over after that, McGwire ,Giambi. Frank might have only had 6 All-star AB's his whole career.

Only one AS selection for Dye in these past 5 years. Shame.

Is it coincidence that 1998 was the first year that he primarily played as a DH?

How did the '83 team only have one guy on it...and it was the rookie Kittle. Wow.

1983 was also the 50th anniversary of the A.S. game and at Comiskey Park.

I was only 10 when I watched it, but I knew that we were getting screwed back then.

I'm not a big fan of how the All Stars are selected. I agree that the fans should have some say, but there were guys playing last night that were batting .270. Why didn't Dye and Konerko make the team? Well, I know why...I guess it's a rhetorical question.

Nellie Fox must've been awesome

He was-best bad ball hitter I have ever seen and a hustler. Real solid in the field and rarely struck out. I seem to remember less than 20Ks in 600 plus at bats EVERY year. The Mighty Mite teamed with Luis Aparicio as the premier DP combo.

Man, Esteban Loaiza in 2003 and 2004. Turning him into a 21 game winner and All Star (who could have had 23 or 24 wins that year when you consider he lost to the all time bad Detroit Tigers 1-0 twice that year, and lost 3-2 to Tampa Bay another game) in 2003, into an All Star again in 2004, and then into Jose Contreras in a deadline trade just as Esteban started to go down the tubes still amazes me. I would call it the ultimate case of "Coop can fix him", but really, he wasn't very good and needed a "fix", so maybe it was just the ultimate example of how good a pitching coach Don Cooper is. Of all the great things we've done with "fixing" players this decade, that might be the most remarkable.

Easily. That's probably the best "fix-it" of all-time. Kinda makes you scratch your head and wonder how it happened. I remember thinking every time Esteban would take the mound thinking...that's a W. He was that good.

They were really bad for the first couple of months of the season. They went crazy for the last 2/3 of the year.

Yep. I vaguely remember them being on Monday Night Baseball versus the Indians(?) in mid July to finally climb into first place in a relatively weak AL West. At the end of July they were still only a few games over break even. Then they went on an absolute tear and ended up winning 99 games overall and the division by 20 games. The midseason trade of Tony Bernazard to the Mariners for Julio "Juice" Cruz really helped balance the lineup and the starting pitching was bolstered by a strong second half performance of Floyd Bannister. The first half swoon was the reason for only Kittle getting selected.

They were 22-9 in August. 22-6 in September and 2-0 in October = 46-15!!

I think Hoyt, Dotson and Bannister were something like 42-5 the last half. Of course I may be off on those numbers, but it was pretty unbelievable. Britt Burns was the #4 starter.
