I shouldn't be surprised. Iowa couldn't hold onto leads all season. Their lack of toughness and overall defensive issues failed them in the end. This is about as dissapointed as I've been in a season since the year Alford actually delivered a strong season and they lost to freaking Northwestern State or whomever the hell it was. Hope everything is well with Fran's son and that the Hawks learn from this. Even w/Marble leaving they should be a solid squad next year.

Yep, it was Northwestern State in a game they led the entire time until the last second, reminiscent of tonight but without the heartbreaking dagger. Losing 14-1 in OT, there's not much you can say, when you gag on 8 consecutive shots.

So their last tourney win was all the way back 13-14 years ago against Creighton. This year's team was a lot like the 2001-2002 version with Recker and Reggie Evans with huge expectations that just crashed in Big 10 play after being anointed a Top 10 team at the beginning of January.

The positives of the last two games...at least they're getting some solid contributions from Jok, Uthoff and Woody. Pretty amazing to lose a game you didn't have a single turnover in the 2nd half and OT. Then again, when you somehow manage to lose 7 of your last 8 games, A LOT of things are going wrong, mostly chemistry and relying on Marble too much (or Marble being too selfish, depending on your perspective).

That said, we lost because of the way that we just couldn't hit key shots down the stretch...carryover from last year, closing out games.

Hopefully this Dickerson kid can bring Atwood with him, although I can't see Atwood turning down LOU. They're also in (along with about 15-20 teams) the 5th year PF transfer from Temple (Lee?) whose family lives in the Quad Cities.

Olaseni is going to have to replace Basable next year....they'll (along with Woody) probably be a two headed monster, with Aaron White alternating between the 4 and 3.

Like every Iowa game, they led for something like 39:12 and manage to lose it in the end. Marble had a chance with a three pointer to extend the lead to 6....and they led 57-52, but they just can't quite get over the hump.

Can't say I'm shocked Marble no showed

To be fair, he was guarded the whole game by Josh Richardson, who was 1st team All-SEC defense and a lot of people thought he had a shot for SEC DPOY. He's been doing that to every team's best scorer all season.

Iowa was just awful in crunch time for most of their close games all year. Not sure what that says about the players and coaches. Shoulda had a better run.

at Iowa State

Villanova in preseason Bahamas tourney (OT)

At Wisconsin/at home vs. Wisconsin

At home vs. Ohio State

At home vs. Illinois

At home vs. MSU

vs. Northwestern in B10 Tourney

The only times they were really blown out of the water were at Michigan and MSU...but then the only "good" teams they beat were Ohio State, Michigan, Xavier (if they're good) and Nebraska.

I've got Lou to at least the elite eight. Yikes.

If you only have them in the elite 8, and have Mich/Duke or whatever, you may as well root against them. You're still ahead of the guys that have them as champs/final game/final four.

Tough first round match-up for LOU but they prevailed, thanks to Smith and Hancock there at the end.

Pretty sure Hancock had eight consecutive points, including two 3's, which came after Smith's tying 3.

Were down 3 with under two minutes to go. Louisville will be a lot better off having been tested, rather than getting the easy blow out win. They shouldn't have much of a problem with St. Louis.
