  2. “July 17 - Fox Sports continued a record-breaking week in TV soccer viewership when Argentina's narrow victory over England on Wednesday was the most-watched World Cup semifinal in English-language history, Variety ‌reported. Argentina's 2-1 win averaged 15.063 million viewers on Fox, crushing the mark set just one day earlier when Spain shut out France 2-0 in Tuesday's semifinal and averaged 11.462 million viewers. Argentina and superstar Lionel Messi, facing off in Atlanta against England and its star striker Harry Kane, peaked with 22.177 million viewers from 4:45-5 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Fox averaged 6.531 million viewers for the 2022 World Cup semifinals. The France-Morocco semifinal in December 2022 in Qatar drew 6.595 million viewers on Fox, the record for English-language broadcasts of World Cup semifinals until this week. Radio Times reported that England's match Wednesday was the most-watched live ‌TV broadcast in the United Kingdom in 2026. The broadcast peaked at 24 million viewers -- 85% of all TV viewing at the time -- and averaged 22.1 million on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.” https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/argentina-england-world-cup-ratings-15-million-fox-1236813261/
  3. “But baseball? Too many regular-season broadcasts feel like they are fulfilling a contractual obligation. Game 94 isn’t Game 7. But television doesn’t have to treat it like Game 94, either. Everything doesn’t need to be louder or faster. Everything certainly does not need another graphic flying across the screen. There were things the World Cup didn’t do perfectly. Afternoon kickoff times weren’t ideal for North American viewers. FIFA’s expanded tournament occasionally felt like someone looked at a successful idea and said, “You know what this needs? Thirty-two more games.” Sports commissioners are remarkably consistent that way. But the television product? American broadcast executives should have been taking notes. Not because soccer is somehow superior. Because great television is great television. The World Cup reminded us that the biggest moments do not need to be manufactured. They need to be recognized. That’s a lesson every producer, director, and announcer should remember before the NFL season begins. Sometimes the best television isn’t created in the production truck. It’s already happening on the field. The smartest thing everyone can do is trust it.”

  5. Detmers feels like left handed Javy Vazquez. Great peripherals, but always ends up giving up too many runs.

  8. Many Opening Days have been rough weather wise. I think this was April 8, 2016. I took this shot from the RF concourse. A retractable roof stadium, and the game gets played like it should be, in reasonable conditions for fans and players. But I have to say, when we have good Spring weather, tailgating and watching the Opener is one of life's great joys for a Sox fan. Photo AlbumOnline Photo Album

  11. nobody wants the 27-year-old future hall of famer. i hate it when guys produce 6 war for my team every year.
  12. The 2005 club could beat you with a blast a bloop or a bunt. They were top five in the league if I remember right in home runs, sacrifice flies, sacrifice bunts, infield hits and stolen bases. They were very well rounded offensively.
  13. During the 94/95 labor impasse players weren't paid but it was negotiated as part of the final settlement that they would be credited with service time for the games missed. That's how the Sox lost Alex Fernandez. The organization didn't think he'd be a free agent for another year but with the service time given for the games missed he qualified went to Florida and helped them win a World series.
  14. Braves did all that maneuvering with #1/2 and 8-10 ($1500) picks to go way over on slots 3/6/11 But many had slotted AJ Gracia is the 20s.
  15. Come to Pittsburgh in May if you have never seen PNC park! I will buy you a beer.
  16. Atlanta Braves On SIBraves Set Record When Signing 2026 Draft ClassThe Atlanta Braves did what they had to do in order to put pen to paper on who they feel is a prime draft pick
  17. You would lose the slot value for example 200k and the ability to go 5% over without penalty so total loss would be 210 from your pool.
  18. Lindor is available too? That would be a shocker… Soto didn’t help the Padres THAT much and cost them Wood Abrams Gore. Very similar to Devers in many respects in terms of a positive/negative clubhouse presence. Everyone has noted how happy/together the Sox team is…look no further than Boston moving away from Marcelo Mayer and going with the always smiling and optimistic underdog story Anthony Seigler (their Antonacci) at second base. Brewers might have made a mistake there, but already had Turang and preferred to add David Hamilton at third for Durbin.
  19. Garrett is "not throwing baseballs" as of 7/13. Something isn't adding up. His lat strain was said to be "mild" and yet he's unable to throw 60 days later? Pitchers, bro. They get injured a lot.
  20. Maybe he didn't fully log off at the library.
  21. Nobody wants the clubhouse cancer Soto and the 600 or so million left on his deal. One of the greatest hitters of his generation, but a bum in the field and a clubhouse downer unlike Manny and Miggy and Papi, the other 150+ wrc+ type bat only types to come before him. If you're that good of player, being a s%*# leader is a huge drawback, as the org will play favorites and mets fans complain about it. Mets are one of the worst run FOs in pro sports, honestly the White Sox might be better given the resources available the last 30 years.
  22. Okay, you got me there. Generally, the owners have granted some service time. I'm pretty sure that if baseball players aren't playing baseball games, they're not being paid $200k a game afterwards.
  23. I was a big Wes Kath guy as well. Seemed like a great pick at the time. HS guys are just wild cards. I get why the greedy MLB owners want to limit them in the draft, but eff off.
  24. Nobody knows now what an agreement before and/or after a shutdown would look like.
  25. Damn you lose a bet with the wifey or something, Sox over .500 at the ASB you gotta give up a 20 year schtick?
  26. Vargas was like 155-165 pounds when they acquired him. He hardly looked good in a uniform at that point…he looked more like a malnourished refugee.
