I wouldn't say he was terrible. I would agree that it didn't feel authentic a lot of the time and felt forced or cringe. I think he genuinely wanted to connect with the fans and be apart of the Chicago White Sox. He just never really seemed to connect well with the team or even the city. Jon also didn't do himself any favors when he made Chicago media enemies at the beginning of his tenure.

Coach Q recruits kids from the Downers Grove Panthers Bill George Youth Football League (BGYFL), as he lives right in the area in Hinsdale. That’s how my son ended up going to BR and how he almost nabbed Owen Lansu when he was first hired as BR’s new coach. Lansu’s dad actually coached the Panthers and Q would attend many Panthers home games on the weekends at Doerhoefer Park, with his own kids in tow. Lansu chose DG North HS instead. Sam Holcomb played for the DG Panthers as well and his dad Greg is a QB coach/trainer and owner of Next Level Quarterback Academy. He was J.J. McCarthy’s personal QB coach since grade school. I’m sure Coach Q met Holcomb and his dad at a Panthers game and convinced him to go to BR with CJ Gray leaving as a senior for West Point. Holcomb and his family used to live in Downers Grove but I think they have since moved to Carol Stream. He made it known via social media that he was headed to BR right after they won the state championship…

I saw Benet went 2-8 in its first year with some former NFL star James White at the helm. Benet is never "good" but never this bad. I wonder if this guy knows how to recruit. WS2023 do teams in the suburbs recruit as they do in the city? How did Rice get this phenom Holcomb? Did he live in the neighborhood or do we drive him in for class every day from LaGrange or somewhere?

For me, legendary Braves broadcasters Skip Caray and Ernie Johnson Sr. were the soundtrack of my childhood. For you, maybe it was Vin Scully, or Harry Caray, or Jack Buck, or Howard Cosell, or any of a dozen other bourbon-and-cigarette-soaked voices that brought games to life. We form a bond with these voices, voices that are with us for decades. We hear them sitting alongside our parents, we hear them when we're out on our own, we introduce them to our children. No matter what else is going on in life, you can always count on the voice of Al Michaels or Jim Nantz coming around again, the way we used to count on, say, John Madden and Keith Jackson.

Not trying to flame but what's wrong with Stone? He's a legend in Chicago. He went 15-12 for the Sox during the glorious season of 1977. He worked with Harry. He has a good voice. He's not a screamer. He explains stuff well. I'm a little surprised you dislike his broadcasting. Sox are better organization than to have somebody like Schiff screaming stuff that he obviously hoped would stick. Sox need a pro and not somebody who talks with an announcer's voice cadence. At least Schiff didn't do that. Stone doesn't do that.
