  1. Past hour
  2. I think they still do that somewhat, evidenced by Kyle Teel and Braden Montgomery, but I don't think we're going to have a "Getz always gets his man" meme. Acquiring former 1st rounders like Jared Shuster and Ryan Rolison seems more inadvertent than the focus.
  3. I'll be honest, there was a part of me that was a little worried he was going to pull a Zava and say "I will not be signing with the White Sox today."
  4. that's a handsome fit. JR probably loved that, he may have even offered to sign a Cigar magazine for him.
  5. The smirk on Getz’s face when he signed, I am hoping he slid a team option in there.
  6. I realize he has a lot of money, and donating $20,000 isn't going to hurt his wallet. My point was he's already doing something for the community around the ballpark.
  7. Interesting no #5 jersey for Christmas sales but the professional tailored suit look. Looks like his weight is down.
  8. The Sox just got hung up on him after missing out in the draft and never let that go. Like they've done with so many other players. Hopefully that's coming to an end.
  9. I think it was more about the similar salary levels and the brighter spotlight of the NY media on the two teams, in comparison to Chicago, that actually fields a competitive NFL team these days but has largely forgotten the White Sox.
  10. If they sign on the wrong lines, does Murakami have to pay Getz $34M?
  11. Cutting into that $1 million signing bonus already. He was making $4.5-5 million for Yakult and at least doubling that with endorsements.
  12. https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/next-wave-of-white-sox-prospects-nearly-ready-for-majors?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage We get a puff piece on Sox prospects (no Braden early in the season confirmed) and nothing on MLB Network but a David Wells no hitter rebroadcast.
  13. Yes, high profile Japanese talent Jorge Polanco. Totally the same thing.
  14. I support the Bears moving to NWI. Hammond makes a lot of sense. Arlington Heights is not that convenient for me or most Sox fans. North siders will just have to deal with it.
  15. Per Chuck Garfien, Murakami is donating 100 $100 grocery gift certificates to the St. James Food Pantry as well as $10,000 to the Food Pantry. The Pantry serves people in need in the neighborhoods around the ballpark. This guy is already awesome.
  16. Good roll of the dice for the White Sox, and I do not mind it only being a two year deal at all. Sox do not have a similar profile in their minors. While his power is plus plus, nobody knows how the hit tool will translate vs. MLB pitching. If he does not produce, his money is off the books pretty quickly, and the Sox are unlikely to contend for the divison in 2026 or 2027. If he is good, he becomes a trade asset or possible extension candidate longer term
  17. Probably a lot more coverage in Japan even at 2 am in the morning... Weird not to have on the Sox website.
  18. Honestly if they have to trade draft assets for someone I'd rather trade up for Rueben Bain. If he keeps playing like he did this past weekend he's going top 10. Would you rather trade 2 firsts for a guy with 5 years of control on a rookie contract or 2 firsts for a guy over 30 that's gonna require $30 million a year? I'd rather do the former.
  19. Yeah they'd need to cut Edmunds and some other guys to make room for a guy making $30 million a year. Their current cap space next year is around $10 million and that's without re-signing guys like Byard. They can backload the contract and get creative, but they would then be pretty strapped for space the next few years.
  20. "Could have been a press release" was something pretty funny I read. Sox have so little to be excited about... the comparison was hosting a signing press-conference for Jorge Polanco. Either way, hope Mune proves all the haters wrong and mashes like the Japanese Prince Fielder!
  21. If he's putting up 1 WAR a season, he's probably worth around 2/$15. So, depending on what they're getting back, I'd think they'd have to kick in $15M. Maybe they'd take back a failed bullpen arm getting $7-10M.
