If it’s Sox staff members/interns being commented on…versus the typical banter of minor leaguers at a local Hooters after a game, two very different scenarios, like football players swooning over cheerleaders or Wonyoung from IVE (Kpop) throwing out the first pitch at Citifield in a barely there outfit and hearing catcalls from the dugout. Thirty years ago, you couldn’t spend ten minutes around the minor league players without hearing maricon this or puta that or suck my dick f—-t…or players constantly hitting on on our “models” manning the souvenir scorecard booth. Then there all the groupies invited with free passes to sit behind the plate with the scouts/radar guns and upcoming pitchers charting…everyone waiting to go out after the game together. Married players were a rare commodity…só it was definitely a machismo environment. Mix in lots of alcohol as well. Executives in the front office need to be held to a much higher standard in terms of behavioral expectations.

Let’s not forget the Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac partying during COVID with minority shareholder’s kids … the getting re-signed three times by the Sox and all that came along with Clevinger, not to mention Pham again

Looking at the statcast for his release point, he's been tinkering with it ever since his 2nd start here. This was where he was at with the Mariners: Since he's gotten to the Sox, he's now dropped his arm angle to 15 degrees and widened his release point (-2.53 feet). The vertical release point hasn't changed much. He's been tinkering with the arm angle from start to start, starting with his start against the Reds. In his start against the Cubs, it got all the way down to 13.5 degrees, but it's been more or less fluctuating around 15 otherwise. I have to think that they're trying to alter his arm angle and release point to get a better shape to his slider. But it's straight up not working. Way too many of the ones he throws are not competitive. A side effect of the lower arm angle is lower velocity and we've been seeing that pop up in the past 3 starts. He was throwing as low as 90 in today's start. Keep in mind his fastball was averaging 95.3 MPH with the Mariners and the velocity looked pretty good in his first start against Boston. Feels like they were trying to fix Castillo, but now it's basically made him unplayable. His once good velocity is gone and you're not getting anything more out of his breaking or off speed pitches. He could at least somewhat get by on his fastball before, but now that's not there either. I don't know what made the Sox think they can turn around a struggling pitcher better than the Mariners could. After all, our poor pitching development is why we had to trade for a starter in the first place.

Agree. Will is an inflexible manager when it comes to splits. We need to play our hottest hitters like Peters and Grichuk regardless of the pitcher that we are facing.

For what it’s worth, Boston Smith has fallen off a cliff in AA of late. It’s still impressive how they managed to take a bad signing in Dominguez and compound it into something way worse though.

The lineup of the first game with the Cards was not bad luck, it was managerial malfeasance. Worst lineup of the year by far.

Why are so many people absolute dumb asses? The threshold to not get fored for s%*# like this is pretty easy to clear.

It’s just wild that Getz went out at the deadline and acquired an expensive player who has made our team materially worse. That is legit hard to do.

Based on tonight’s appearance, Castillo is just about fixed as Getz indicated.

I would think we would have heard about him being up with the club at this point. But idk what they are waiting for, they can't keep doing these bullpen games and rely on Castillo and Urquidy

Three factoids today: September 13, 1967 - In one of the longest games in franchise history and in the middle of a four-team pennant race, the Sox shut out Cleveland 1-0 in 17 innings! (Now that’s pitching!) The game lasted over four and a half hours and was finally finished when Rocco “Rocky” Colavito singled to right driving home Charles “Buddy” Bradford. One other note from this game, Sox starter Gary Peters allowed one hit in 11 innings, striking out seven…he also walked 10! (I wonder what his pitch count was!) Don McMahon, the fourth Sox pitcher picked up the relief win. September 13, 1987 - In a game in Seattle, Sox pitcher Floyd Bannister fired a one-hitter in winning 2-0. Harold Reynolds two out single to left in the first inning was the only base runner on the night for Seattle and ironically, he was thrown out trying to stretch the hit to a double! Bannister faced the minimum 27 hitters and struck out 10. Mariners’ pitcher Mark Langston only allowed two hits but both were solo home runs by Pat Keedy and Donnie Hill. September 13, 2004 - Due to hurricane Ivan, U.S. Cellular Field hosted the first two games of a series between Montreal and Florida. It was the first time a National League team played a regular season home game in an American League park since 1946.
