“The 78” is alive and well for the Sox, Bears are 'advancing' Hammond development
Given Comiskey's historical impact on the franchise and how fondly people remember the place, I think the Sox would be crazy if they went with a "post-retro", modern looking design for a new stadium like in Tampa and Vegas. It's not like they'd be trying to manufacture a retro look out of whole cloth that could come off as inauthentic. That's not to say it would be a Comiskey clone, including things that absolutely would not work today, of course. I suppose with the Royals, almost their entire history has been in Kauffman (all but their first 4 seasons), so maybe that's why they seem to be going with a similar look for their proposed new stadium. That being said, hopefully Amtrak and Canal Edge are working on addressing neighborhood concerns and ways to mitigate the impact of moving the maintenance yard to Bridgeport if they don't want to see their project delayed or shot down.

Doomers, panicans, optimists and everybody betwixt - do the Sox make the playoffs? (8/25/2026 poll)
Yeah but the offense isn't great. Boston is the team that scares me. Yankees offense and their bullpen issues as well as their defensive lapses make them vulnerable. Those vulnerabilities were on display against us.

Anyone worried about tonite can relax. I just washed our gnome with the garden hose.- 8/28 White Sox @ Twins: Castillo vs Kremer 7:10 PM (And off-day thread)
Twins pulled a Sox: Buxton didn't go down, so they are down a man tonight.- 8/28 White Sox @ Twins: Castillo vs Kremer 7:10 PM (And off-day thread)
Yeah, but the guys you'd count on to be strikeout pitchers (Burke, Urquidy & Castillo are all above 9 SO/9 with the Sox) have been unable to put anyone away in recent starts. The guys without big stuff (Kay and Fedde) have been our best pitchers.- Doomers, panicans, optimists and everybody betwixt - do the Sox make the playoffs? (8/25/2026 poll)
They are the only team in the AL I'd think we wouldn't have more than a 40/60 chance against. The top of their rotation in a short series will be hard to beat. I'd say we'd be heavy dogs, like +400 or something to win the series whereas maybe +150, 175 against Rays or Boston. At least in my odds.- 8/28 White Sox @ Twins: Castillo vs Kremer 7:10 PM (And off-day thread)
The problem is we have a lot of mediocre to bad pitchers on the staff that do not own put away type stuff. They don't have to worry about pitches they can't get a bad on.- 8/28 White Sox @ Twins: Castillo vs Kremer 7:10 PM (And off-day thread)
Yeah, foul balls and borderline takes not going our way have been a routine theme with our starters lately. Either our pitch sequencing is totally atrocious, or hitters are sitting fastball and getting away with it because they don't have to worry about any of our starters' offspeed pitches.- 8/28 White Sox @ Twins: Castillo vs Kremer 7:10 PM (And off-day thread)
Part of it has been awful BABIP luck but part of that is inability to put batters away with 2 strikes. He really needs to have that good changeup going tonight. His stuff looks fine to me, but batters are picking up his fastball without many issues even at 96. Hopefully he can give us 5 good innings tonight. Twins pitching overall sucks, 5 innings 3 runs allowed for Castillo should give us a solid chance to win.- 8/28 White Sox @ Twins: Castillo vs Kremer 7:10 PM (And off-day thread)
Yep. Pitch like a mid-season trade guy to a contending team.- 8/28 White Sox @ Twins: Castillo vs Kremer 7:10 PM (And off-day thread)
Castillo needs to bring it tonight. No more fucking excuses or bad games.- Doomers, panicans, optimists and everybody betwixt - do the Sox make the playoffs? (8/25/2026 poll)
Yankees have that pitching that I would not want to go up against in the playoffs (assuming everyone is healthy of course)- Doomers, panicans, optimists and everybody betwixt - do the Sox make the playoffs? (8/25/2026 poll)
Yeah, but its not guaranteed the Yankees and/or Red Sox will win their Wild Card series. That's what Id be banking on. The Red Sox are a nightmare for us but not necessarily teams with better pitching.- “The 78” is alive and well for the Sox, Bears are 'advancing' Hammond development
What’s additionally interesting (at least to me) is the architecture going into these new stadiums. Vegas’ design is modeled after the Sydney Opera House. Tampa’s design has a fixed, transparent roof that I believe is the first of its kind in all of professional baseball. The Royals aren’t as innovative, as they’re mostly just remaking Kauffman, but I can respect the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” attitude. Though a Comiskey-esque design (like the one on the formerly leaked Amtrak renders) would be an instant classic, maybe the Sox will join the former two in the new era of stadium designs.- 8/28 White Sox @ Twins: Castillo vs Kremer 7:10 PM (And off-day thread)

These fuckers have hung around too long. Let's deliver the KO punch!- Doomers, panicans, optimists and everybody betwixt - do the Sox make the playoffs? (8/25/2026 poll)
Honestly, I don't think it matters who they have pitching for them. I think there is zero chance they could beat the Rays, Yankees, or Red Sox in a 7 game series if they even got past their first series.- Doomers, panicans, optimists and everybody betwixt - do the Sox make the playoffs? They were dead as soon as Quentin went out...playing in that dome.- 2026 Old Sock Drawer
Sale’s run with the Braves has pushed his S-JAWS past 2025 Hall of Fame inductee CC Sabathia (50.8). Sale won’t catch any of the big four from this era — Justin Verlander, Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, and Max Scherzer, the last of whom may be the only one active after this season — but he’s the only other active or recently retired starter with an S-JAWS above 45.0. As voters scramble to recalibrate their Hall of Fame standards for starting pitchers in an age of diminished workloads, Sale has likely punched his ticket to Cooperstown. fgraphs - Sports Media Discussion
