  3. Trust? They’re playing with house money. Lets roll out, get nuts
  4. Great history, especially the 1906 World Series defeat of the Cubs. Historical note: A picture of "Southside Park" from 1907 shows that beautiful red brick/limestome building at IIT a few blocks to the NE. IIT sold it to a developer several years ago so not sure if he will take it down, leave it abandoned and vacant, or convert it into residential. It appears that he doesn't have the financial resources to rehab it since nothing has happened there for several years and it would take a lot of money to undertake a large project like that.
  5. Shriffen would never presume to speak for Stoney’s position or disposition with the team. That would be disrespectful in the highest.
  6. McKnight and Schriff will split the play by play and color commentator duties.
  7. Replace Stone? He's not going anywhere, perhaps you misunderstood. McKnight isn't an analyst.
  8. Great comeback win by the Broncos over the Rams. Thanks for selling that, Pat!
  9. Uh oh Why you should root for them: Just imagine the setting: The Padres are at home with a chance to close out the Dodgers in the NLCS (if the bracket allows it), leading by a run, with Miller's entrance cued up by the opening notes of Korn's "Blind" and the Petco Park crowd in a frenzy. Then, imagine that scenario repeating itself in the World Series against the AL champion, with the Padres' first title on the line. Your goosebumps would get goosebumps. -- Doolittle espn.com
  10. If they go home early, it will be because the front office didn't adequately improve the rotation at the trade deadline. The White Sox approached the deadline with one clear need: starting pitching. General manager Chris Getz addressed it by acquiring Luis Castillo from the Mariners in the midst of a down year. The move proved disastrous. Castillo, who was moved to the bullpen, posted an 8.42 ERA across 31 innings while Chicago's starting rotation ranked near the bottom of the majors in ERA after the trade deadline. Sean Burke and Davis Martin, the club's top two starters, had strong but not elite seasons. Beyond that, quality depth is lacking. -- Castillo Why you should root for them: This year's White Sox are easily the most root-worthy team in the playoffs. You can scoff at the AL's mediocrity, but when it comes to Chicago, you have to remember that entering this season, even mediocrity felt like a long way away. The 2023 Orioles had a bigger two-year leap than the White Sox, going from 52 wins to 101. But before that, you have to go back to the 1930s to find anything similar. But it's more than the rags-to-riches angle. The White Sox are a young, power-hitting, selfless group that is a gas to watch. -- Doolittle No. 6 seed | 84-78 | AL wild card Wild-card opponent: Astros (48.8% chance of advancing) Doolittle's WS odds: 2.5% | DraftKings odds: +4000 Team temperature: 83° "easiest route of any postseason team"

  12. It's why fans don't typically have front office jobs. It's also why the majority of players think the front office guys are dispassionate analytics geeks, like Stearns in NY or Breslow in Boston.
  13. NBC has released the announcer lineups for the Wild Card series. Tom McCarthy (the Phillies' play-by-play guy) will call the Sox/Astros series - with Steve Stone, Geoff Blum, and Adam Ottavino on color. Benetti will do Yankees/Red Sox, Matt Vasgersian will do Phillies/Braves, Dave Fleming gets Cubs/Padres.
  14. McKnight is like listening to an over eager to please yellow Lab puppy... not a big market big league announcer
  15. Yep. Regular season just ended today and they're already lobbying for McKnight to replace Stone.
  16. The White Sox? Let’s just say nobody on this planet has seen the Sox even host a possible home clincher. The Sox have played only one potential postseason clincher at home: the 8–3 victory over the Cubs in 1906 World Series Game 6. It was a game in which Doc White, who was born in 1879, outpitched Mordecai Three Finger Brown, who was born in 1876. The one and only time the White Sox celebrated a home clincher, owner Charlie Comiskey immediately cut a $15,000 check and handed it to manager Fielder Jones to share with the players (on top of their usual series share), then repaired to the Pompeian Room of the Auditorium Annex (later the Congress Hotel), where according to the Tribune “wine flowed like water in the fountain” and Comiskey flashed “a roll of bills big enough to choke a herd of cattle.” Meanwhile, 2,000 delirious Sox fans called upon Jones and Sox players at their homes around the South Side, thanking them, carrying them on their shoulders and calling for speeches from them. si.com
  17. Have to walk Alvarez and force Paredes to beat you
  18. Bingo - and I like all of those guys for different reasons: Fedde is starting for the first ( and maybe ) last time in his career. He’s going to be amped up and will be doing everything he can to throw a complete game shutout. Dude is our hidden weapon. He’s also been looking great lately. Burkey is also looking nasty as of late and has been our most dependable starter across the season as a whole. Him going second puts him on normal rest. Davis is going to be PISSED that his last start went off the rails and cost the team the two seed. He’ll be wanting to do everything possible to get them to Cleveland, if we even go to a third game. f*** THE ASSBLOW CLOWN ASSHOE BITCHES AND LETS FUCKING GO WHITE SOX!!!
  19. Regardless of what Rock ends up being, there has to be a better option out there than record-breaking Kolson.
  20. When Rock is ready SS is his!
  21. Astros offense does scare me a bit. They have some really tough hitters at the top of the lineup, obviously Alvarez is the MVP but now you have a really hot bat in Spence towards the bottom of the lineup
  22. He put up top half SS numbers in MLB this season with all of his flaws. I know everyone is fixated on his Ks, but again, he has two more minimum wage seasons. You'd be an idiot to punt on that.
  23. Saw a MLB Network run down and Dontrelle Willis predicted the Sox beat the asshoes and then lose to the Indians. I like the first half of that but we’re murdering Cleveland if we get past the Assblows.
  24. Oh please stop! You think a .700 OPS is good enough? It's very below average for a power hitter. C'mon now! Besides that, his OPS for July was .616; August .637, and September was a paltry .445, yes .445!!!!!!! And just 9 HR's in the 2nd half. If he wasn't treated as a golden boy, he would have been sent back down a month ago like every other struggling young player. Stop including what he did before the league figured him out 3 months ago.
  25. This team has more ‘05 in them than ‘21… IMO.
