  2. In defense of Kaspar's idea, there is something very good about the "good point" in football (soccer). Genuinely think both Monday and Tuesday should have been draws.
  3. Very interesting concept, Hogan. Also, I've been meaning to ask a more general question, so if you don't mind I'll just toss it out there while I'm thinking about it... and again, I need to do "full disclosure" because I'm related to Sam A., and thus "a little" biased... ๐Ÿ™‚ but, in his second at-bat in last night's game, Sam hit a sharp grounder that looked like it was going to be a single through the first base side, but the first baseman made a great play on it, and tossed to the pitcher (who ran over to cover first) for the put-out, as Sam made a head-first dive into first base. Steve Stone, with a noticeably frustrated tone in his voice, said (essentially), "I wish Sam wouldn't do that. It's not going to get him there any faster." Now, while I get where Steve is coming from, I thought that Sam was anticipating that if the throw were to be high and pull the pitcher off the base, or simply be off-line to one side or the other, so that the pitcher would need to try touching Sam with a "swipe-tag," Sam opted for the head-first slide in order to keep himself low to the ground and thus out of range of the swipe-tag. Do I raise a valid point, or am I just an overly-defensive great-uncle? Or maybe a little bit of both? ๐Ÿ˜Š
  4. Dead last in catching success, 28 out of 30 overall https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/48305211/2026-mlb-abs-challenge-system-tracker-team-player-rankings
  5. They'll need to spend a lot if there really will be a salary floor. Just throw the fucking kitchen sink at Skubal. I feel like Jerry's "principles" will get in the way though. We know how he feels about signing pitchers to big deals. Even if we have a salary floor to hit, I think he'll be a gigantic prick about it.
  6. That's unique
  7. Would be nice to see the Sox lay off offspeed below the zone today. Starting to feel like the 2013-2018 era when soft tossing lefties like Bruce Chen were the bane of our existence.
  8. Plenty of arms out there. Try to jump the gun early and before lockout
  9. Every time Caulfield does one of these copy/paste jobs, I just think of thisโ€ฆ
  10. Maybe adopt a rule like the Frontier League has for extra innings. The 10th inning is played normally, but if no one wins, they go to sudden death. The home team chooses to bat or play defense. A runner starts at 1st base. If the offense scores, they win. If the defense gets three outs with no runs scored, they win.
  11. Itโ€™s like if 2020 was a longer season
  12. Yeah, the Sox can't rely on him so this point. I'm just assuming he won't be back.
  13. They just need to make a big splash in free agency
  14. Shane Smith looked bad again yesterday 2.0 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 2 ER Hoping for him to figure it out this year is a huge waste of time, he's bad
  15. Extra division in each league and less wild cards?
  16. Today

  17. They need to figure this pitching out if they are serious about winning in the postseason. This is negligence and unsustainable.
  18. I'm gonna be salty for awhile about that umpire report card site that said the home plate ump's calls gave the Cubbys a run in game 1. Sox should have won Monday in regulation so I'm still pissed.
  19. Sure. Honestly anyone to eat innings at the beginning of ballgames right now.
  20. I don't think he needs to be replaced but there is still a learning curve that will frustrate us all.
  21. And, 1 bad call by ump helped beat Hicks. He could not recover.
  22. They hoped Davis Martin would get right and not sure why they bumped Fedde from a spot and then have not replaced him. I have no statistical proof but the opener does not seem to work for them. They should have looked to extend Newcomb deeper and see what they had. He had a great game in June I think it was, and then they went away from it. Their decisions surrounding the pitching staff have been odd. How does your closer not close either of these last two games? Hicks was the choice Monday but not Tuesday? I non idiot catcher and Hicks gets the save Monday.
  23. I was fine with Getz moves at the deadline at the time, but after watching this all play out.. why the F did they not get 2 more starters? This is really embarrassing to try to win a division with 3 starters.
  24. Burke, undecided and pray for rain.
