Law of averages says that has to happen at some point right?

Castillo to Sox for Dominguez, Boston Smith, Nolan Jones per Passan
Prediction: Castillo is our El Duque. Middling results from a vet, but comes up big when it matters most for us. Sox sweep world series again, of course.

Why is it that acquisition of amateur players operates in a regressive capped way, such that poor teams get first pick and more money, yet the Dodgers still end up with the best ones? Is it that such systems are not guaranteed to achieve their stated goal in this great game of baseball?

The most recent piece of common wisdom I've come to embrace is "If the wording of your solution starts with, 'if everybody would just...', you don't have a solution."

Just a warning to the thread - the owner discussion is over. There is another place for it and nobody cares here.

Maybe Getz really is westeddy with cherry picking like this.

Fedde moving to pen, Schultz stays in rotation
His high in IP was 2024, when he threw 88 innings. After yesterday’s start, he’s at 88ip this season. Even if you stretch him to 120, that’s only 5-6 more starts.

It would be so White Sox to finally get a super rich owner only for the league to neutralize the benefits of having a rich owner.

AAA is where non prospects who cant make it typically go. AA is the prospect level, therefore looking at the avg age is reasonable.

If the owners have a problem with how much money some are making, they should simply work it out amongst themselves if the money needs to be moved around.

No idea what you’re arguing here. The definition of “savior” is someone who saves from danger or destruction. Jerry has destroyed the immense potential this franchise has. So yeah, everyone should be amped that we’ll soon have one of the wealthiest owners in baseball. And I don’t care if he makes money off the White Sox as long as he invests in his product and makes it something worthwhile. This is ultimately a business and that outcome would be a welcome outcome for both fans and ownership. What we have today isn’t working.

Castillo to Sox for Dominguez, Boston Smith, Nolan Jones per Passan
1) Oh, has Seattle been looking for Dominguez? Like, they've been watching him walk batters in high leverage and blurted out, "I gotta get me some of dat!!"? 2) Nolan Jones is not a prospect. He was a top 50 prospect 5 years ago who has not been able to duplicate his success from 3 years ago. As a matter of fact, he moved from Columbus to Charlotte, a renowned launching pad, and saw his OPS drop 100 points. 3) Boston Smith is a fast riser. There are concerns about his contact rate and his ability to stick at a position he's recently taken up. He is a nice player to have in your minor league system. Because then you can trade him to supplement your major league staff and not touch the real prospects. I love me some Boston Smith just fine. I wish they didn't trade him. But his bat has so outpaced his catching, they might have to stick him in LF so he's not hitting .400 in AAA for two years while he learns to catch. And that is if higher level pitchers don't pick apart the gaping holes in his offensive game.

You are the person who referred to a "savior owner". The business of sports talk is to keep all sports fans enraged. Then they tune in, or click and like, or whatever. Once Jesus Ishbia takes over, we'll all swoon. "Look!! He dropped the price of the new ice cream drink!! I love this guy!!" But he will say something. Anything. And everyone will turn on him. You will have JR all over again. He might even come in and spend a bunch on free agents that everyone wants. But then it'll stop. Because Buddah Baseball Owner doesn't buy a team to make you happy. They're like vampires who not only suck your blood, but the air and the sun. They buy a team to ... get this... make money.

An ominous future...
At least that would wipe out Castillo’s contract. 🤣

Lip thinks that the small market owners should endure massive losses to ensure parity with the big market owners who leverage their structural revenue edges to finance massively unfair payrolls.

Skubal to Dodgers
You seem like a smart guy Lip but your financial acumen is certainly lacking. You can theoretically kick out all the shitty owners and their replacements still can’t spend what the big market clubs do. Not sure how this doesn’t process with you, but the game will be forever broken until a floor & cap is implemented. It’s really that simple.

Some people on this board get silly at the deadline we have two to four moves still coming.

Castillo to Sox for Dominguez, Boston Smith, Nolan Jones per Passan
The thing about Castillo that sticks out is every time you talk about buying pitching being risky and saddling you with poor performance with a huge cost…they always seem to move pretty easily. They half-lifed the contract and have a reliever they could easily trade (for peanuts) and a prospect. Everytime people act like the team will need to have to attach value to get rid of a guy it never happens and they find someone who thinks a change of scenery will help.

Teams carry a long reliever so I guess Fedde sort of takes that role.

There is zero value in saying we hope to add another SP right now. He can go out and assess upgrades while saying he’s comfortable with Castillo & Schultz as his #4 & #5. He can’t do the same for catcher because everyone knows we need one.

Sox @ Rays 12:40
Okay, the joke is that the team we're playing today is being untruthful and asking us to play the lesser players on our roster (so they can win), under the guise of scouting them for a major trade. I really don't think the Rays would want to give us their best pitcher for Pereira and Romo.
