I really don't get the uproar. Its Michael Bay. Are you expecting anything other than a horrible joke of a movie? Regardless of how they "retell the story"? It is going to be hot garbage anyway.

I think many of the fanboys are upset because for the past few years we've heard rumours of a "dark" live action TMNT that would closely follow the comic books. Now it comes out with Michael Bay's name attached to it and its just a huge let down. I really see this being like TMNT 3 in the fact that its made more for kids with a stupid alien origin story for the turtles. I would honestly rather watch the Turtles "Coming Out of Their Shells" than see this crapfest that will be Michael Bay's "re-imagining".

Nobody will be happy either way. If you make the same story, showing a can of ooze in the sewer that 4 turtles and a rat happen to pass through and mutate into sentient beings, people will laugh at it. If you change the origin and make them aliens or whatever, people will laugh at it.

It is what it is. A ridiculous story that must be treated as such. People wanting "gritty, dark, realistic" are just kidding themselves. Michael Bay is irrelevant here, I doubt he even does anything past executive producing.

I loved the cartoon and the original movie when it came out.

I haven't seen the original movie in a long time. Does it still hold up?

I think the first movie still holds up. I'm 28 and watch it about once a year. I think when you watch it as an adult you realize how much it really wasn't a movie made for kids.

Hunger Games getting 100% on RT thus far. I'll see it even though I never read the books. Off tomorrow so I have to see 21 JUMP STREET due to word on the street. Honestly thought it would blow.

I just realized that the actress that played April O'Neil in the original movie was in Armageddon, which was directed by Michael Bay.

She was the mom to the kid that said "Mommy, that salesman is on TV!"

$20 is a lot for a movie, but that includes free popcorn, a comfier seating area, and free valet service, as well as the ability to buy drinks during the whole flick.

Does that mean unlimited "free" drinks are part of the $20, or you just have the ability to buy a drink and get free refills, not sure I quite understand that last part...

60 positive, 6 negatives now...91 rating for THG, but wow, some of the negative reviews were really scathing...seems like there's no middle ground on this picture, other than the admiration for Jennifer Lawrence's continued evolution as a young actress

I should have said the ability to buy alcoholic drinks. No they aren't free, only the popcorn is, but you can buy booze sitting in that section as it is 21 & over.

Shocked that 21 JUMP STREET is so good. Hilarious and fun. Never saw that coming.

Shocked and never saw it coming? Maybe if Pauly Shore was the lead I'd get that. But Jonah Hill has been in several positively-rated comedies that have grossed like half a billion.

Yes, but Jonah Hill isn't funny.

Nobody saw THE HUNGER GAMES midnight showing?

Movie is poised to break every box office record, with only the final Harry Potter and Twilight franchise standing in its way.

I have to confess I had never even heard of this "phenomenon" until a couple of weeks ago, since I'm out of the country, so I read the first two books in the trilogy over the last couple of days and now I sort of understand a LITTLE of the appeal, but maybe not $125-130 million worth.

Then again, I was also foolish enough to try to sit through JOHN CARTER, thinking how bad could it be, and it was pretty darned awful, especially some of the fight sequences on Mars/Barsoon and the whole jumping thing got old so quickly, feeling like it was the lamest superpower ever. Shouldn't anyone on Mars be able to jump in a similar fashion?

'The Hunger Games' earns a record-breaking $19.7 million at midnight screenings

The Games have officially begun!

Last night, The Hunger Games grossed a truly staggering $19.7 million from midnight showings across the country — the highest midnight total ever for a non-sequel, and the seventh highest midnight total ever (behind three Harry Potters and three Twilights). After only a few hours, it’s clear that the film is already a smash, and it’s almost certainly headed for a debut well above the $100 million mark.

Sure, the overnight figure can’t compare to the $43.5 million that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 conjured up at midnight shows last year (on its way to $169.3 million — the highest opening weekend of all time), or the $30.3 million that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 found at midnight on its way to $138.1 million, but it’s likely that The Hunger Games, which doesn’t have the same amount of built-in sequel anticipation, won’t face the same weekend frontloadedness as those titles. Saturday and Sunday grosses should prove quite sturdy. Back in 2008, The Dark Knight earned $18.5 million at midnight, but still managed a stunning $158 million debut — the second highest debut of all time — proving that not every blockbuster makes a full 25 percent of its opening weekend gross at midnight.

Based on this $19.7 million figure, The Hunger Games should take in at least $50 million on Friday and could reach as high as $150 million over the full weekend frame — although that estimation is very bullish. My fellow box office prognosticating colleague John Young is predicting a more sensible $130 million weekend. We’ll have to wait and see see how high it climbs, so stay tuned to EW.com for box office updates throughout the weekend.

I read the first book and i'm half way through the second and I agree, i'm not sure what the appeal is. They're fun reads and entertaining, but they remind me of those condensed stories you'd read in high school literature courses. Not sure how a movie, especially a pg-13 rated movie, has that much appeal.

The Dark Knight was rated PG-13.

yeah, i suppose that's true. just seems like given all the kills this would have been a good R movie.

Apparently it's really bloody and the UK made them edit out content to get a similar rating there.
