I don't really understand what the Astros are doing here. If they can't sign Aiken then they don't have enough $$ to sign their 2nd round pick because of losing the slot amount for the #1 pick. What happens if Aiken doesn't sign? Can he become a free agent right away? If so, I bet Aiken would receive $20+ million on the open market and I would hope that the White Sox would be involved.

Which is pretty dumb IMO. I believe he has to wait 2 years and with how hard he throws it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he meets tommy john in those 2 years and doesn't end up getting close to what he could have got this year.

I don't believe that is an option since he signed a professional contract which was negotiated by an agent. I think he will file a grievance and aim to become a free agent similar to Barrett Loux.

If there is significant damage that the Astros are so severely low balling him we shouldn't be offering him 20 million or anything at all really.

What are the possibilities that the Astros are calling this significantly abnormal when it's really just a minor tear or something to attempted to save themselves an incredible amount of money? Yes, I'm aware how incredibly unethical and illegal that is.

 

On the flip side, if Aiken has had an independent physical done and there is something incredibly wrong with him, he'd be insane not to take the money at this point.

Sounds like Houston is taking advantage of an unfortunate situation with Aiken for the sake of being cheap. I understand Houston's concern but aren't possible elbow problems the reason why kids are told not to throw breaking balls while their body is still growing? Aiken does have a pretty damn good curve ball for a high school pitcher. I don't remember the soxtalk members name right now but he would know better than I as for kids throwing breaking balls.
