Sure. But it's his age 28 season coming up. His prime. It wouldn't take much, stay healthy OR mature a bit as a hitter, and he's worth his contract. If Teel, C. Monty, Vargas, Sosa, Brooks, Quero, Meidroth, Antonacci - a few of these guys get just a little better, maybe Robert doesn't press as much thinking he has to hit a 5-run HR every time up. He did just put up his highest walk rate, and lowest K-rate since 2022.2 points

I find it easy being a White Sox fan. I renew my season tickets every year and go to the games and just hope for the best.1 point

So how many Royals connections are there? Getz — I guess, although I thought the complaint about him was that he had the stink of White Sox on him. Assistant GM Josh Barfield — no Kansas City connection that I'm aware of. Assistant GM Jin Wong — long history in KC organization, although it doesn't appear he is all that involved in baseball decisions with the White Sox Senior Advisor to Pitching Brian Bannister — briefly pitched for the Royals, but post-playing career positions were only in Red Sox and Giants organizations I think Director of Hitting Ryan Fuller — only worked in Baltimore organization prior to the White Sox Director of Personnel Gene Watson — about 15 years working with the KC Royals with stints in a number of other organizations. I'm told he's the Rule 5 mastermind so take from that what you will Director of Acquisitions Matt Grabowski — 3 years with DBacks, 8 years with Braves Director of Player Development Paul Janish — hired from Rice University's staff (his MLB career didn't include Kansas City) Director of Amateur Scouting Mike Shirley — White Sox lifer Manager Will Venable — never played for KC, coaching and front office gigs with Cubs, Red Sox, Rangers Bench Coach Walker McKinven — only worked with Brewers before coming here AFAIK Hitting Coach Derek Shomon — past work with Twins and Marlins Pitching Coach Zach Bove — past work with Royals and Twins Assistant Hitting Coach Joel McKeithan — past work with Reds and Phillies Assistant Pitching Coach Matt Wise — past work with Angels Third Base Coach Justin Jirschele — White Sox lifer (but his dad coached with the Royals!!!) Hitting Coordinator Sherman Johnson — prior work with Baltimore I don't see a big infusion of Kansas City here, especially when you consider Bove had no overlap with those front office guys; says he didn't even know them.1 point

How many times are you going to talk about how people can remain Sox fans and talk about stopping being a fan? if you want to stop, then stop. Nobody is in your way. If it’s too hard to pay attention when they suck, then keep it moving. It’s not hard, others have done it.1 point

Remember that roids, coke, and amphetamines were big in baseball back in that era. That kept those 30+ year old players motoring.1 point

It's sorta news to me since I haven't watched a Sox broadcast in years.1 point

Nice to see Hagen throwing strikes. He, Schultz, McDougal, and Oppor have way more upside than anyone the Sox would go after in FA. I am also intrigued as to whether Shane Murphy could eat innings as a number 5. Stuff is meh, but that might be 70 command.1 point

It's more money to be the lead dog and all of these have to be confident in their ability to make guys better/do the job well.1 point

I wonder if I'll live to see that. Somewhere they need to get better without trading elite and do it on their own. I don't think pattern is gonna stop.1 point

My main takeaway is these guys seem to have been picked solely based on their track record and performance in the interview process. No nepotism/connections/etc. Young guys too, relatively speaking. Hope it works out.1 point

I'm glad they picked up his contract. He's still my favorite player on the team right now. I hope he regains his all star form. I am also excited about Montgomery.1 point

He's got about 1000 ABs of being a decently below average hitter. That IS kind of normal according to his stats.1 point
-
He has played more than 110 games once in his career. Over his last 956 ABs he has put up an OPS+ of 86. That IF is doing some heavy lifting. It is getting to be the time to start asking if playing through injuries has sapped him the way it did guys like Yoan and Eloy, and this is who Luis is now.1 point

It's much more accurate to say the connection here is the Twins. "Prior to his stint with the Royals, Bove spent four season with the Minnesota Twins. He was the minor-league assistant pitching coordinator from 2021-22, special projects coordinator in 2020 and pitching coach for the Golf League Twins in 2019." Same with Shomon and Popkins on the hitting side. https://www.si.com/mlb/whitesox/onsi/news/chicago-white-sox-hire-new-pitching-coach-zach-bove David Popkins and Derek Shomon were fired at the end of last season by Minnesota. Matt Borgschulte was brought in to turn things around. That didn’t exactly happen, and Popkins took his new team to the World Series (Toronto). Now Shomon is back in the division for his next job as well. "The role is a homecoming for Shomon. He’s an Illinois native and started his coaching career with the Schaumburg Boomers. He began coaching in affiliated ball during 2021 with the Twins. By 2023 he moved up to the major league staff as an assistant, and held that role through 2024. He’ll return to a division he knows well, and he’ll have his hands full with a Chicago White Sox team that won just 60 games last season. They are looking to turn things around, and Shomon can be a catalyst for that change." https://sports.yahoo.com/article/division-rival-hires-pair-former-220544378.html1 point

It's a stupid meme. Chris Getz is not Rick Hahn.1 point

Those ultra long commutes will eat at you over time. I get the opportunity, but you are going to miss a lot of time at home, and that gets rough. Being older now, I have passed up chances to work in both Chicago and NYC for a lot more money, just because I don't want to move and/or commute anymore. Quality of life is important.1 point

Wacha and Lugo and Singer were all very solid in 2023 as well. Ofc that requires spending REAL money on FA pitching. It’s also why KC is ranked around #10-14 going into next season.1 point

Yeah, it probably the White Sox who say the Schriff has to take a break. I know I like the broadcast better. McKnight might not be the greatest but at least he gives the audience some credit for having a clue as to what is going on.1 point

Hopefully Ishbia doesn’t take this advice lol… “White Sox should just move all their home games to Wrigley and play during day/night opposite of the Cubs and at least people will care and go. “ From a Cubs’ fan and someone working in pro sports0 points
