  1. This thought has always crossed my mind, and I saw another poster talking about it recently. The White Sox are known to be a stingy organization. The idea of the rebuild was acquire cheap, young talent through draft picks and trades. That talent gets supplemented with established players who will cost more. In typical rebuilds, you trade your high end players for a bunch of high end prospects (Sale, Quitana, Eaton, etc.). As far as established veterans who have been traded, these guys had just about the best contracts out there. Cheap and under control for a while. Trading a player like Yoan would result in an unprecedented return. You could absolutely stack the system and once again have one of the best, WHILE being loaded with young talent in the majors. Now, I'm not advocating trading Yoan, but the 2nd generation rebuild might be the true way to develop a multiple championship dynasty. Interesting to think about.

  3. Yah, it’s really just those two. I like Grandal a lot because we can get him time at first as well, and Jose to DH. Eloy is what he is, I am hopeful he can continue to improve and be passable. Rest of the defense should be at worst average. A RF that can play above average defense would be so enormous for this team.

  7. Trey Burton needs to go. Don't think I've despised another Bears player as much as him in a loooong time. From his "anxiety" to him milking injuries. Dude is literally collecting a paycheck and not giving a shit.

  8. Trubisky is nearly unplayable. Talk about a massive regression. The punt block team is just awful as well.

  10. The season didn't matter. I think they were aware that Palka was horrendous in RF lol... They aren't that clueless.

  11. My original reply was based on your comment that 'despite them being instant upgrades'. Well here's some news for you, pretty much everybody is an instant upgrade over the garbage we had in RF (and DH) last year. People need to stop using that as an excuse to pump the tires on mediocre players (as you did in your first reply to me). And don't put words in my mouth again.

  12. Cole and Strasburg and even potentially Wheeler and Bumgardner all are priced out potentially because the playoffs... Dodgers fans will call for a starter. Yankees once again fall short and will HAVE to overpay for an ace or #2. If Astros win WS....extra cash could resign Cole. If Nats win WS...extra cash could resign Strasburg. It's gonna be a tough competitive december-february.

  13. Teams with good starting pitching usually make the playoffs and teams with the best two or three starters often go to the world series. The white sox scored 741 runs in 2005 and 868 in 2006. Their offense was much better in 2006. Starting pitching was the difference between winning the world series and finishing third in the division.

  14. Yankees didn’t make a World Series appearance in the 2010’s. Last decade that happened was the 1910’s.

  15. How did I misunderstand your comment, chief? You said you want to avoid Wood like the plague and suggested 2 guys in Volquez and Hernandez who are toast at this point. What am I misunderstanding? I assume you’ll say it’s what you think they’ll do versus what they should do. I sure hope they have their sights set higher than that.

  16. Gerrit Cole was not a star when the Astros traded for him, he was a good pitcher but had an ERA over 4 at the time of being traded. Their amazing pitching coaches and analytics department turned him into an ace just like they rejuvenated Verlanders career. The White Sox should learn from them but that would require a very modern approach and dumping Cooper.
