Sox Spring Training notes
The reason for not moving him was that he had four years of control and no team would have given up enough. I remember the discussions here about it, and many people agreed it would have been dumb to move him at that point.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
Solid prediction. I have two questions for you: 1. How would you change it if you knew Robert would still be on the team? 2. How would you change it if you knew both Robert and Colson were on it?

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
For now, let’s use this thread to predict what the opening day roster will look like. Once spring training gets underway and cuts start happening, we can update and discuss. Who do you got?

Sox Sign Joey Gallo to minor league deal, NRI
Hey, don’t be so critical of their April last year. They won 6 whole games! That wasn’t nearly as bad as the 3 they won in July or the 4 they won in August.

Very well done piece by Fegan on State of the Sox
3 run homer. Not a grand slam. Seems like that’s the only big hit of the last decade.

Very well done piece by Fegan on State of the Sox
That was his point. He was saying those three prospects will be present at camp, even though they have a 0% chance of making the team. So for fans, the most value might come from following spring training, as opposed to the regular season.

Michael A. Taylor Signed
Which players are you worried about taking at bats from?

Very well done piece by Fegan on State of the Sox
Where does Fegan even talk about Colson? Are you referring to the comment about Braden?
-
Shortstop Candidates
Out of curiosity, what metrics were you referring to that helped him at 2B?

Could Getz Have an Actual Master Plan?
It’s funny you bring up this example because I almost used it in my original post. I’m a teacher, and I’ve seen multiple examples of people who are shitty teachers and good department chairs. I do agree that a promotion shouldn’t happen if you’re bad at your job, but I see it all the time in education, too. Ten years ago, our principal was horrendous and they kicked him up the ladder to our district office. And just so it’s clear what my stance is, I don’t agree with promoting people who are bad at their job. I didn’t agree with the Getz hire. We had a chance to start fresh and hire outside of the organization, and we blew it. But I won’t go as far as saying Getz is a bad GM. That’s still an unknown, in my opinion.

Could Getz Have an Actual Master Plan?
I definitely agree with everything you said. And I’m not even a Getz supporter. I was angry that they didn’t look outside the organization for a new GM. But what I described in my previous post has always bothered me.

Could Getz Have an Actual Master Plan?
Isn’t it possible for someone to be bad at directing player development but better at GM? They are two different jobs. It’s certainly possible that Getz is bad at both, but just because he failed at one position doesn’t mean he will automatically fail at the other. And I’m not directing this at you, DA. I’ve just seen several people point out his failure at player development the last few years as if it’s clear indicator of his ability as a GM.

Vaughn and Sox avoid arbitration: $5.85 million
They always “have” the money. But they are not willing to spend it this year.

White Sox agree to 1 year deal with INF Josh Rojas
I don’t disagree with you, but there seems to be some smoke recently. Harold mentioned the Sox hope he takes control of the job in spring training and breaks camp as the starting SS (or something along those lines). Then just the other day, Merkin wrote that he will have a chance to break camp with the team. He also gave a bold prediction that he will win AL Rookie of the Year. While that’s obviously a long shot, my first thought was that Merkin put that out there (or was asked to put that out there) so that the upset fans would be reminded that there’s a potential reward for not playing the service time game.

White Sox agree to 1 year deal with INF Josh Rojas
Even taking SS completely out of the equation, it’s still possible to get everyone a lot of at bats. Meidroth can play 2B or 3B. Sosa can play 2B or 3B. Vargas can play 1B, DH, 3B. Vaughn can play 1B or DH. Rojas can play anywhere, including outfield. You could give those five guys one day off per week and be able to make it work.

White Sox agree to 1 year deal with INF Josh Rojas
Fair. I didn’t realize he has that much experience in AAA already. I still think there are plenty of at bats available at 3B, 2B, 1B, and DH for five guys (Vargas, Sosa, Meidroth, Vaughn, Rojas), especially if Rojas plays OF every once in a while. It’s not like guys won’t be getting days off.

I’d start Ramos and Meidroth in AAA. Sosa starts at 2B, Rojas at 3B, and Vargas/Vaughn at 1B/DH. You can mix Vargas in at 3B if you want to see how he can handle it. If Ramos or Meidroth deserve a call up, chances are somebody will be injured or performing poorly by that point. And if not, then that’s a pretty damn good problem to have.

White Sox agree to 1 year deal with INF Josh Rojas
I never realized that either. I guess baseball loves to use unconventional decimals. As we all know, when a guy pitches six and a third innings, it’s 6.1 innings instead of 6.333.

Why can’t Rojas just be a guy who plays everywhere to give guys a day or two off per week? Then nobody’s “starting spot” is really being blocked, and Rojas will get plenty of playing time.

Sox Acquire Tyler Gilbert for Aaron Combs, DFA Braden Shewmake
For those who had to look up the names like me: Tyler Gilbert is the guy who threw a no hitter in his first major league start a few years ago. He’s 31 years old. Bullpen piece. Aaron Combs was our 8th round pick in the most recent draft. Also a bullpen guy.

Draft Kings sets Sox O/U at 49.5 wins
Now we get to look forward to Austin Slater out there. I didn’t realize he was so bad defensively.
-
Way too early wins poll
I’m firmly in the “over” camp. Just seems really hard to win less than 50 games two years in a row. You would need to be very very bad and a bit unlucky. We know they are very very bad, so I’m banking on a few more things going their way this year.
-
Draft Kings sets Sox O/U at 49.5 wins
Best of luck to you. It would be pretty funny if they got to 49 wins with one game left.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
