A very minor grammatical quibble: That quote should read "respectively" since they did not have the same HR total. As in: "Ozzie Guillen and Gary Redus had 25 steals a piece." Second minor quibble: "apiece" is one word when used in this context. [/quibbling]

I disagree, but I hope we never find out.

IMO, any trade involving Maggs should involve players who are signed past this season. Otherwise, you're just entering the same situation you already have with Maggs anyway, so might as well keep Maggs.

I don't see anything wrong with that column. I'm sure Sosa would move to LF for Ordonez - he'd look better as an outfielder ( no more long throws from RF to 3B, LF is easier to judge flyballs in than RF ), and he'd look better as a teammate ( leaving his "natural" position for the good of the team ). I'm sure he'd enjoy tweaking the Sox and their fans, given the hate directed at him through the years. It would be a welcome side-effect of improving their team. I'm also pretty sure any Cub offer would NOT include diminishing skills clauses or much, if any, deferred money. That would make their offer more attractive than the Sox' offer, which is UNQUESTIONABLY going to include deferred money at least. I'd much rather the Sox trade Maggs and get some players for him now than lose him to FA and get draft picks. I'd love for Maggs to re-sign here, but I am very pessimistic about it happening. On a side note, THANK YOU Ozzie for realizing that one loss is less important than risking your players! That field was a swamp after the rain delays, especially the warning track, which was underwater.

This list = EXCEPT: Missing Persons and Romeo Void make me :puke

What a surprise. Incidents ON PARK PROPERTY over the past 3 years - 182 to 94, USCF has more. How 'bout expanding that to the surrounding neighborhoods? Well, at least they admitted that they slanted the survey by not including the neighborhoods...recognizing that they HAVE a problem is the first step towards the solution...

Worst. sell job. ever. "And now here's a sample of just how bored you'll be here...."

How will the Sox fare against the Cubs?
The Critic replied to Sox It To Em's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I still think the Sox are gonna SWEEP!!!! YEAH!!! WHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! SWEEP! SWEEP! SWEEP!!!!!! ...wait....what?....they DID???? ....uhhh....I say Sox win 2 out of 3.... -
Over/under on the number of people between them at the time is 62. Mariotti would get absolutely destroyed by Harrellson, without question. Hawk would probably let him get 5 punches in, just for laughs.

He's too obsessed with not appearing to be gay to even notice who he's talking to. "Did I mention any women during the last segment? I should probably talk about how much I like women. You know, just in case someone's just tuning in now and didn't hear me talk about my love for women...."

Somewhat agree - the field is nice, but the stands are crap. Seats are cramped, LOTS of obstructed view seats, and if you sit halfway up the lower deck seats you lose sight of flyballs due to the upper deck overhang. Not to mention that you can barely see the GLORIOUS manual scoreboard from those halfway-up seats either. As you mentioned, concession areas are awful and walkways are WAY too crowded. Restrooms are junk, also. All these things are to be expected from older ballparks, but are NEVER mentioned during the lovesongs some journalists sing about the Urinal. I've said it before, and I'll continue to say it - US Cellular Field BEATS THE s*** out of Wrigley Field when it comes to actually VIEWING a baseball game, and my overall experience at USCF is ALWAYS better than at the Urinal.....ALWAYS.
-
Just heard on ESPN that before the game, Oz called Wrigley "the worst park in the majors. The clubhouse, the showers, the parking....all terrible". He did add that "once you get on the field, though, it's great".
-
Why? If he was playing CF he never would've dropped that ball!
-
The wind at the Urinal is f***ed up today, but if you get to the ball you have to catch it.

Have any schools taken you to frat keggers or strip clubs yet?

They'd have to do a sign-and-trade, and I don't see who the Lakers would want on the Bulls who makes enough money to make the trade happen. It's a good PR move, though, to at least make it look like the Bulls want big-name guys.
-
See the joke I quoted in the "worst Santo quote ever" thread and this line will be even funnier!
-
Nope, won't happen. Can't blame the Bulls for sticking their toe in the water, though.

Whether or not Kruk has a bias against the Sox, he's right about this. I'd really rather not wait until the showboating costs the Sox a game to address it. He obviously didn't learn anything from last time. Not gonna harp on it, though....
-
I wonder if that 1.8 is per year or total for the deal. Seems to be the total amount, which means 600K per. That's why they signed him - he's cheap. Unfortunately, he's also kind of cheap on the ice too. I'm not a fan of his, so this move doesn't excite me at all.
-
Kind of off-topic, kind of not, but too funny not to repeat. There was a guy on Last Comic Standing who told this joke: "So my Grampa has two wooden legs, right? Last week there was a fire at his house, and Grampa burned to the ground!" So wrong of me, but I thought of Santo burning to the ground when I heard that joke!
-
It's not a minor thing. A "minor-league" thing, maybe, but not a minor thing. If I had a dollar for every time Ozzie talked about "playeeen dee gain dee rye wayeeeee", I'd have 86 dollars. Yet his starting left fielder still gets picked off bases too often and strikes the Homer Pose after ALREADY getting burned by it THIS SEASON. It's a mental thing, an attitude thing, and it's dangerous to let it go unaddressed. As one of our main guys, I think it's MORE important that he "gets it". Big games are won by little things.

Remember, when it comes to showboating, it is truly better to give than to receive.

So I'm listening to the Cub game on the radio on the train home yesterday - I'm a baseball fan, that's why, thanks for asking - and Beltran hits the 3-run bomb to tie the game. Here's Ron Santo's "expert commentary"....EXACT QUOTE..... "......Man oh man............I didn't like THAT......oh....JEEZ....." If I'm in charge of WGN radio I call Santo into the office after the game and wish him well in his future endeavors. He is useless as a broadcaster, it's not even right to CALL him a broadcaster. His entire "contribution" to the booth consists of gasping, sighing, whining about umpires and yelling like a retarded 5-year-old when the Cubs go something he likes. Awful.............beyond awful..............
-
I'm going to assume that it will be on most if not all basic cable packages. I cannot IMAGINE that the Sox want to take a chance of repeating the SportsVision debacle. They still take PR hits about that s***. Heard on the radio that the Cubs and Chimp are still negotiating an extension and expect to come to an agreement soon. Can't fathom why the Cubs would pass up an opportunity to revamp their dismal broacast teams, but oh well.... My suggestion to them would be to pair Pat Hughes with Stone on TV, and FIRE RON SANTO YESTERDAY and put together a new radio team.
