Within a year, Olivo jerseys will start popping up all over Seattle. He's got a great future and he's a great guy as well. I will cheer for him too, until the game begins. Then he's just another player on the wrong team. Won't boo him, but won't cheer for him during the game either. But I hope he DESTROYS everyone else he plays against!

I believe so, but I think it's ridiculous money, and IF he really is in the decline that people say he is, that makes me a little leery of taking on his contract.

Wanna hear what a pessimist I am? When I read "FMIL" and "FSIL" I immediately thought "FORMER" and not "future"! HA!

Steve Carlton's gonna be there??? COOL! I know why you didn't say "Pudge", you didn't want cw to think Ivan Rodriguez was going to be there! -
I am going to repeat myself from another post of mine because I feel this bears repeating.... ...I like the White Sox.

It sounds silly, but any kind of coordinated attack would most likely use that type of surprise element. Good thing I don't drink beer....

I plan to see it. I like Moore's style of film-making, and I realize his biases going in. Not making any sweeping political statement either way, just saying that he has preconceptions like anyone else, and I'm going to treat the movie as entertainment and not as a news program ( even though most news programs have some sort of agenda these days as well ).

Well, the GOOD news is that this reduces the chances of future Cub fans being born by 30%....

Another negative line of thought? Look at the initials of our catchers now.... B urke A lomar D avis

IMO, the optimistic line of thought is that at least Davis/Alomar/Burke buys you time to try to obtain new catching possibilities. The negative line of thought? ..........HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kenny Williams seemed to indicate that it was at the Sox' insistance that Seattle agreed to take Reed instead of Joe Crede. That's when Kenny agreed to the deal, from what he said on the radio. Either way, the deal adressed a need and you have to give value to get value. I really hope Reinsdorf is serious about allowing Kenny to make serious long-term offers to Garcia.

Fresh start could = fresh outlook and better results. I truly hope so - Sandy cannot bear the full load behind the plate and I am NOT sold on Burke yet. -
Not saying I would have personally preferred it. Just answering the question of how it might have made sense to trade PK instead. My point being that we have a slightly deeper talent pool at 1B than at C. I am VERY happy that Paulie is crushing like he is, and that he's doing it for the Sox and NOT the Dodgers, like we heard all winter that he would be.
-
The one scenario I can use to explain possibly being better off trading PK over Miguel is the fact that the Sox have more options for first basemen than they do for quality young catchers. You could have made a case for Frank over there, or C Lee at 1B with Reed given a shot in LF, or short term stuff like Gload or Burke as stopgaps. I'm REALLY happy about Freddy G being a Sox player now, I just really wish Miggy didn't have to go. As I've said in a couple other threads, he's gonna be really good for a LONG time, so it's just kinda sad seeing it happen somewhere else.
-
I don't really think Kenny was pissed at Miguel about anything. He seemed genuinely upset about having to deal him. I don't think Kenny's a good enough actor to appear that sad about trading him. It's all about giving value to get value, and Garcia fills the most glaring need the Sox have at this time. I am REALLY going to miss Miggy, he was my second-favorite player on this team ( behind only the Mighty SHINGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ) and he's going to be a VERY good player for a VERY long time. MIGGY - GO GET 'EM IN SEATTLE!!!!
-
I'm going to miss Miguel's "Mighty Right Arm" and I'm curious to see how Reed pans out for Seattle, but I'm really looking forward to a rotation of: Buerhle Garcia Loaiza Garland Scho/Diaz/Rauch If KW can somehow still pull off the Ortiz deal then it ONLY gets better! Throw Russ into any spot, 2 to 5, and throw the 3-headed 5th starter into the bullpen, which suddenly becomes pretty deep. It's a nice nice thing. And I'm going to assume that someone in the organization had to have some kind of talks with one of Freddy's people to get a decent feel for what it'll take to re-sign him long-term, and they must feel like they have a legit shot at doing a deal with him. I'm thinking Sweeney or Anderson can still do what Reed has the potential to do, and maybe Borchard can salvage his "top prospect" status now that Reed is out of the picture, too.

Some opposing hitters need to end up on their asses once in a while, to keep 'em honest. Outside, outside, outside will NOT get it done forever. Give him credit, though, E-Lo's been battling all year, even without those 2-4 mph and without the 2-seamer. He's mentally tough out there and makes a good pitch most of the time when he really needs to.
