With a 2 run lead you make the defensive sub. You dont manage scared.

No I don't think anyone is trying to hit the ball on purpose to the LF. Come on Roche.

Not pulling eloy was for sure a mistake. It happens. This thread though, and the countless rick bash threads are hilarious. Sox are in first place with he best run differential in the AL and 2nd best record in baseball. They were projected to be a .500 team. The players have praised renteria constantly - yet sox fans want to tell you how bad he's been every day. Its hilarious. And atone has praised renteria and his overall job this year, it just doesn't fit the narrative here so its been ignored.

Sox should consider throwing Buxton less pitches to hit than more. Been on a heck of a tear since he came back. -

all of it sounds good but for the maddening game threads; these threads drive my blood pressure through the rough. You'd think it was 2016 in most of them. my wife usually goes to the room and comes out for 1 or two innings to say how long the games are then retreats back into the room; only to continually ask is that it? then comes to watch the last inning lol. -

He's been owned by sliders in his career, but true curve's he has been positive almost his entire career. This year he's + vs the Curve but negative vs the slider. I guess it's hard to say what to classify Berrios off-speed as, but the slower one I'd guess McCann has been crushing. -

It's 24 at bats; I don't put much into that. Unless you think McCann also destroys and own Gerrit Cole who he has a 1275 OPS against in 12 at bats? edit: I'll add 24 at bats is approaching a number I'd consider viable so you have an argument. -
Cleveland is the worst offensive baseball team in the league.

Cease is 2017 Giolito and 2018 Reynaldo Lopez. Phantom success; if change isn't made, he'll be Lopez, if growth continues he can become Giolito. If change is delayed, they might not be as patient as they were with Gilito. I tend to think Cease will figure it out; I think much of his demise is related to his inability to throw the ball anywhere near where he wants it. He throws way too many non-competitive pitches, and people know he can't throw consistent strikes. It's hard to get swings and misses, and for your stuff to play up, when you're never around the zone. You're constantly behind in the count, and even then your fastballs are either in the zone or completely non-competitive.

Sox playoff chances sit at 100%, 3rd in AL for WS odds

Its also misleading because Detroit and KC are literally over .500 on the season when they don't play the White Sox. Theyre 2-18 combined vs the Sox. They're 38-36 against everyone else. The narrative of "beating good teams" has always been absurd in baseball given the way the game matches up and runs in spurts. The twins got swept by KC and Detroit. Sox have dominated. Period eos. -
Rodon move to the 45 was just procedural I thought. Hes already been out 45 days. If he's ready to come back next week he will. Not sure how true that is.
-
Say what? They've had to use like 12 starters this year. This would also mean they're done spending money at all anywhwre but the bullpen because they have every position locked up cost controlled.

Magic Number: Playoffs - 0; Division - 4

I'd be willing to wager the Astros finish above .500 but it's all a moot point. -

If you want to be a smart ass, you might want to check your facts. The 8th seed in the AL this year has a record of 24-21. The 6 seed has a record of 22-23. Thanks for playing. -

There's very little chance a team under .500 makes it in the AL. As of today, the 8th seed in the AL is 24-21 and it's the Yankees. -

I'm just so grateful the airplane caught Codi and brought him back. -
a player being good everyday for 2 months is more significant than a pitcher being good for 2 weeks worth of games. imo as I said above i think the most valuable thing about an elite starter is the work load. without it, i just think giving the pitcher that award is awful. i hate it with a full season though too.
-
A huge part about being an elite starter is throwing 220 innings and making 30+ starts. There are plenty of starters in baseball history who have completely dominated 10 game stretches.
-
Pitchers have their own award. Hate the MVP going to a pitcher.

He's also only run a k-rate this high for this long two other times in his career (both to start the season though), he's never had a stretch quite this long with a contact rate this low in his career - it's down 6% from his previous career low but only 2% from previous low 30 game rolling avg's. He's swinging more (swing rate up 2%), making significantly less contact, and when he does make contact he's hitting the ball 4 MPH slower on average than his previous career low EV. Lastly, this is the least effective he's been vs the fastball in 10 years (grading out near avg to below avg for the first time). It's the last two points that concern me more than the start; when he does make contact, it's softer, and he's getting beat by fastballs while in past struggles early season he was getting beat by off-speed stuff. Edwin has started slow every year of his career, and in 2018 he had similar struggles in Mar/Apr - his K-rate was 29%, so not quite where it is but still inflated. He had a 55 wRC+... but this does feel a little different because of the struggles vs fastballs and the down EV. This moment is when he usually turns it on - his struggles have never really reached the 40 game mark, or the 125 AB mark, so this week ahead may be bigger for Edwin than we know.

you are correct; sox played 17 games in 17 days last year between July 12th and July 28th and again in August. I was wrong. I guess it just feels more draining given the lack of off-days outside of the 4 collected together. Pitching injuries moreso related to lack of lead up to the season and not sure anyone has caught their legs yet.
-
Harry, I don't know if you've noticed but no one feels more fresh. Pitching injuries are at a historical high. 17 games in 17 days never happens in a regular 162 game season (wrong). I have no idea why baseball gave 4 off-days in such a short span the way they did. Some of the veteran starters may feel a bit more fresh for the playoffs if they have their legs under them finally. I think the majority of bullpen arms across baseball are not feeling great though.

You have to start McCann for now
Look at Ray Ray Run replied to YourWhatHurts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There might be another reason why a few people don't like Grandal but do like McCann... I'd like McCann to stay, but I also would like him to go get a starting gig and get himself paid one time; which I'm sure he's excited to do. -

He drops 2-4 pitches a game? Huh
