Sometimes I dont think people understand how much madrigal had to prove and overcome to be considered the best college bat in the country for mlb scouting purposes. Guys his size don't get that recognition without having a generational skill. Did he wear down last year? Of course. That's actually his biggest risk for a long season. But the kid has a talent that you just don't see often.

He's certainly wowed actual talent evaluators who still (this spring) see him as the most mlb ready hitter from the last draft. I'm not sure what people expected? He needs to add strength and some weight but he's not going to be hitting any tape measure Homers or 120 mph liners. He makes things happens with incredible hands. Probably the best hands in baseball and I'm not exaggerating. Not striking out at his rate is just all hand to ball. Hands arent everything but guys with hands like him get 70 hit grades for a reason... and in turn are frequently +++ defenders for the same reason.

This is funny. Why would anyone believe Levine over Gomez is beyond me. Levine brutally wrong about denying Sox manny offer.

This.

Minaya cleared waivers too; apparently it's very possible he's suffering from an arm ailment as his velocity and stuff are way down.

What are Archer or Greinke worth? deGrom/Thor?

LOL at Robert, Cease and Madrigal for anyone; let alone a pitcher with a strong injury history. No one is netting 3 top 30ish prospects in baseball. Chris Sale on a team friendly deal and durability and longevity only netted 2 top 30 guys. -
Hector was spot on about the white Sox offer.
-
You dont seem to understand. The Sox are trying to control his cost. Theres nothing laughable about it. They clearly project that in their opinion he will be worth more than the contract. It's a gamble but all early contracts are. A gamble the Sox have absolutely dominated since they started doing it.

Ron, 200 at bats proves nothing by the way and wouldnt change the statistical projection for eloy. Signing him now or at the all star break is no different. They bought out arb years and a year of free agency (two for some). It's the same premise.

The one thing left this organization has been proven to be to be very sharp, ahead of the market, and good at is these extensions. I'll trust that whatever they put together here is a good one as well.

If this was any other labor union in the world, this wouldn't be accepted. Exploiting a workers time to limit their earning potential would be in violation in pretty much any other industry. Yes, you can base a claim on that. This is not my opinion - I am not a labor lawyer and I don't even play one on the internet - but the opinion of my old man who is now retired but was a corporate litigator partner at a major firm for 35 years. I have his email detailing why it's in violation yet for some reason accepted practice because of the industry and the earning power in relation to others. I will see if I can dig it up. FTR, I have no problem with the White Sox doing this as it is the smart decisions and arbitrators have already ruled in favor of teams here... but the arbiters ruling, and language, is nonsense. While it is true that individual talent evaluation vary's from team to team, there are occasional obvious situations where it is not about development. Vlad, Kris Bryant, Eloy and etc. The fact that these teams have been emboldened so much to think this is OK that they call these guys up the day after is what makes the courts decision so terrible.
-
No it isn't dick. It is not honoring the contract in good faith. As I said, evaluation from organizations is subjective so collusion is hard to prove but it certainly is not written in there the way you are claiming. They are clearly exploiting the service time rules which is not acting in good faith. The fact that players cant prove intent absolutely doesnt mean the front office is following the rules.
-
They were accused of cheating in a different way last post season. Got the two confused.
-
LOL this is true. My mistake. Players are still d bags.
-
For, your first point is very questionable. The white Sox are clearly not acting in good faith - same as the other teams who do it. The loophole is that player evaluation is all subjective. But its not written in the CBA to hold guys down until a day to exploit their service. That's not good faith at all.
-
A player cheating is pretty different than an organization literally stealing information from another. Also, there is speculation that the Astros are doing shady things with pitchers as well.
-
I have zero interest in cheating and stealing to win.
-
Problem is the Astros just won't shut up. If it's not Verlander running his yap it was McCann when he was there... and Bregman and now McHugh. The Astros have a domestic abuser in their clubhouse. The Astros organization has had the most drug suspensions in sports. Maybe the players should worry about their in house issues. Verlander and McCann thought they were the policeman of the game. It's hilarious. Bunch of blowhard clowns. And they hacked and stole information from another team. Organization is trash from the top down.

Manny looked really good tonight.
-
Ok, the way that was worded made it sound like he was never on it prior to this year which would just be baffling. It's one of the only advantages the organization has over others.
-
To add on to that, pitchers make that mistake all the time. They think shedding weight and being more athletic will improve them but there's really nothing that shows that to he the case. Given how intricate pitching mechanics can be, completely altering your body type is going to force you to almost relearn everything again. Glad to see he gained the 40 pounds back. As we used to say to our teammates "dude, you're a pitcher not an athlete."

Something I've never understood is why they dont put their minor league prospects and players on the same shoulder program that they put their big leaguers on. That training program was literally revolutionary in the game - its something you hear about at the college level and pro level. Whatever Schneider came up with is a program that sale took with him to Boston - as did other former white Sox arms. Hansen should have been on that program last year already That's really good news though.
