I agree with you. Hated the trade when it happened and still do. My Cub fan brother thinks it was great for the WS reason. That's why they make chocolate and vanilla.
Teams look in on lots of players just to be sure they have done due diligence. There are limited teams going to spend 100+ million on Wheeler. Players need to be careful not to overplay their hands just like owners shouldn't lowball.
I believe 160 + makes the top third of MLB. A major market such as the WS have zero reason not to be in the top third of baseball. I believe we will spend this amount in 2020.
We shouldn't be outbid by any team for any players we want. Our financial situation is second to none. To clarify...a player can get so costly as to be a poor acquisition but not unaffordable.
I know the Coop thing is a yuk yuk...but if he's the pitching coaching they should be getting his opinion on these FA pitchers. Also, Grandal & McCann would be worth getting their two cents worth.
