  1. This is maybe a stupid question... But presumably the players aren't being paid during the lockout right? If that is the case, why would Bonilla be any different? Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere in the thread.
  2. There is still some danger associated with Chernobyl. See this article from 2021: ‘It's like the embers in a barbecue pit.' Nuclear reactions are smoldering again at Chernobyl https://www.science.org/content/article/nuclear-reactions-reawaken-chernobyl-reactor Although I agree it may not be as important as other sensitive sites: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/chernobyl-isnt-biggest-nuclear-risk-ukraines-active-nuclear-power-plan-rcna17697
  3. Dalbec had an interesting rookie season, and the Red Sox are popular in that region. Mondesi in Mississippi is the biggest mystery.
  4. Probably also a good time to remind folks that Tim Anderson had two crappy seasons before becoming a star.
  5. That Andrew Vaughn article is must-read material for Soxtalkers. Thanks for sharing. It also gives me a bit of pause about spending large sums on a player like Conforto. But that's just me!
  6. This board has gotta stop sharing these unofficial tweets. This is nonsense.
  7. What is the source for this Segura trade? Or is this just a Soxtalk idea?
  8. This is silly. The sample sizes are so small. Take for example, Jorge Soler. He actually had a poor NLDS. He went 1/13. If you port that result over to the ALDS, we would have done even worse against the Astros! Simply put, we lost in the playoffs cause our starting pitching was poor. The ERA of our starters was 10.22. Sure it would have been nice to have a better person to stick in RF and 2B the whole time. But it wouldn't have really mattered. Maybe having a few better players to fill in at RF and 2B after the trade deadline could have pushed us over the top to get home-field advantage. But I doubt it. And it's not like we didn't try. All of those Braves players, except for Duvall, actually had a lower OPS than Cesar Hernandes when they were traded. We had rotten luck with Cesar.
  9. According to baseball savant, Yoan was T-25th among qualified third baseman for Outs Above Average in 2021. In fact, they say he prevented (-1) runs. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/outs_above_average?type=Fielder&startYear=2021&endYear=2021&split=no&team=&range=year&min=q&pos=5&roles=&viz=show So maybe he isn't a stand out defender? To be honest, my knowledge of fielding metrics is limited so I'm not sure.
  10. Soxtalk needs to banish the term "punting games" in 2022. For the whole second half of the season every time someone had an issue with one of La Russa's decisions they would say we are "punting" the game. Come on, I'm not a La Russa defender but starting Lynn over Giolito was NOT basically punting game one. Sheesh! Even if you are a believer that we rested guys too often, the same usually applied in regular season games.
  11. It's most of the league. It is hard to lay off good sliders on two strike counts. If it was easy everyone would hit .350. Almost by definition, a good slider starts out looking like a fastball that's a strike. It's everything between that allows you to succeed as a hitter including taking advantage when you do get a good fastball to hit, taking sliders that aren't quite good enough to fool you, and hammering sliders when they hang over the plate. If a pitcher is throwing perfect sliders, and getting strike calls an inch or two off the plate (like last night) it will always be exceptionally difficult for the hitter.
  12. Sorry I got mixed up and had to edit my post. My bad!
  13. Leury's number are not better right handed than left this year. Left-handed OPS - 717 Right-handed OPS - 698 Over his career Leury is better right-handed.
  14. Okay, so he might actually have the latter. But he's still gonna play.
  15. Not going to lie, a little bit worried about all the fly outs Rodon converted in his last start. Do some of those turn into liners and homeruns against a stronger offense?
  16. I find it a bit wild that Liam Hendriks is our top guy. But these lists are always weird.
  17. Knowing him, he will absolutely want to play today. And ya gotta love him for it!
  18. Someone want to help a brother out who doesn't have the game on tv today?
  19. Oh absolutely! It's just amazing that he was essentially okay after that.
  20. He went down like he had been shot last night!
