  1. If you were wondering... Grandal and McGuire have nearly identical framing numbers according to Baseball Savant, but both are good. McGuire has one passed ball and 9 wild pitches in 126 innings. Grandal has two passed balls and 6 wild pitches in 114 innings. Grandal has yet to catch a base stealer. McGuire has caught 3 base stealers. Would be interesting to see the FIPs of the pitchers they receive, but not sure how to get that stat.
  2. If I don't have Apple TV (I have a Roku), and I have a Microsoft Surface, I can't watch on those platforms eh? I have to watch on my iPhone?
  3. You are not crazy. He visually looks dejected anytime little things go wrong. I'm sure this occurs with other players who lack success too, but maybe they just don't show it as much as him. Other players (e.g. Liam), can walk a guy, get angry, and get right back to it on the next hitter. It's a mental thing. So maybe some sports psychology can help. Otherwise you gotta give him the chance to get better. Maybe lower leverage is the right idea. I actually think TLR does a decent job of working people up and down leverage levels.
  4. Madrigal was not our best OBP guy. His OBP was like 4th or 5th highest.
  5. I think Moncada is the big difference. Not only was he exceptionally patient last year, he has been replaced mostly by Jake Burger who is in the following percentiles: K% - 15th percentile BB% - 9th percentile Whiff% - 6th percentile Chase Rate - 6th percentile Also, José Abreu is actually being MORE patient at the plate this season. José's underlying statistics actually look pretty good, so I'm not too worried about him.
  6. I wouldn't be excited about it. But you can never have enough depth.
  7. Who's that dude in the new banner? lol
  8. Experiment? He doesn't have many at-bats, and the other choices aren't great either. Leury or Mendick. Or some frankenstein infield with Moncada or Burger at 2B, which will probably not work. Our defence is bad enough already.
  9. This! Whenever I put on the other games the announcers are really boring. Steve and Jason have great banter. But to each their own.
  10. Not sure what the source for the graph is, but that does seem to suggest the xSLG formula is wonky no?
  11. Just because we have sunk the investment into Keuchel doesn't mean we have to keep pitching him. Lets hope he figures out how to be a crappy starting pitcher rather than a disaster, and then we don't need to worry about that decision.
  12. Unrelated to the big issue in that game… why don’t you pinch run for Yas after his hit in the 10th? McGuire is probably better defensively, and Engel (or even Burger) has a much better chance to score on a double. That one didn’t cost us… But major oof either way today…

  14. I can understand the frustration, but I'm not writing any e-mails. This isn't a Tony La Russa situation. While the Kimbrel decision did blow up in our faces, I do understand the thinking behind it at the time. Not everyone agreed with the trade, but I would argue it's a stretch to say that was a brain-dead move at the time. I'm also not sure the issue with Giolito is on the GM. Seems like a penny-pinching ownership issue. But that's a frustrating one for sure. And as frustrated as we are, isn't Hahn at least partially to thank for all of these players being on our roster at the same time: Aaron Bummer Dylan Cease Lucas Giolito Liam Hendricks Michael Kopech Lance Lynn Yasmani Grandal Jose Abreu Tim Anderson Yoan Moncada Eloy Jimenez Andrew Vaughn Also, maybe there was a lot of luck involved, but Hahn did seem to manage through a ton of injuries last year. We somehow picked up or promoted a bunch of guys who managed to get us through some tough stretches. And no, I can't name a "worse" GM because I don't follow the other teams as closely as the Sox.
  15. I have no defense for this. This doesn't seem like a team that is getting Conforto.
  16. I thought I remember Zavala being a decent framer and game caller, but the number of passed balls killed him.
  17. I refuse to panic because we don't sign Conforto. Especially when we have Vaughn, Engel, Sheets, Garcia, Burger and Harrison to fill that spot in the lineup. I basically think Conforto can almost be matched in the aggregate. Remember, Vaughn's season last year is almost exactly the same as Conforto's 2016 Season. I'm not saying Vaughn is Conforto yet, but there's still massive potential there. Plus we're going to have to spend ~100 million for Conforto. Large investment in a player who probably will have no impact on the profitability of the team. But hey, if this team wants to get Conforto I won't complain. What I am worried about is Starting Pitcher depth. Starting pitching is why we got beaten so easily in the playoffs last year. They ran out of gas. Have we addressed that this offseason? I don't think so.
  18. Is it just me or this thread burying the lede where Tony la Russa muddles the closer situation right off the bat?
  19. Just a suggestion... But reading through this entire thread can be a bit exhausting. If there are notable signings or significant rumours attaching the White Sox to players can we start new threads? To be clear, I don't think that has actually happened yet. But just putting it out there.
