Scholtens rebounds with bounceback attack against O's
Yes, he works for MLB.com, previously the Nationals. Remember when Jerry was so cheap, he continued to use the bullshit COVID as an excuse for Jason and Steve to not travel with the team despite the fact a majority of the teams were sending their broadcast teams to cover the games? Len and DJ covered the team during the same period (for months), because Jerry doesn't own WMVP or pay for their travel costs. That said, in this instance it may be a case of Merkin being on vacation, having planned time off not to travel this road trip.

Isn't Daryl Boston both under the first base coach (baserunning Sosa) and also coaches OFers defensively (Colas)? He has never been held accountable for anything. Video of the play here: https://www.mlb.com/gameday/white-sox-vs-orioles/2023/08/29/716800/final/summary/all That may be the case now, but they were talking about before last week, KW Jr. was transferred earlier this year to be an assistant to his dad, a change from his prior role in player development.

Jerry and Al have football acumen. Jerry wants to interfere but brings nothing positive to the table.

I'm giving Grifol the finger if I'm Bryan Shaw. The guy is used too much as it is. I don't like that Grifol stopped using position players to pitch since April/May.

I misread Getz for Grifol. He probably can identify talent better than Hahn, in terms of draft / FAs, but I have no idea if he has any competence beyond that. They need to accumulate solid prospects, make a lot of claims and churn the ML roster to try to flip guys and get more. What I can see happening is Jerry and therefore Getz will try to half ass contend like 2009-2016 and 2022-2023, waste time, possibly prospects and international slot money, to try to sell tickets and win 81 games.

But can he develop anyone? I rather have Ricky or someone like him that can motivate players, relay fundamentals, bring young players along and give them confidence. There is little to no evidence Pedro can do that.

I'm just listening to music, web surfing, and glancing periodically at SoxTalk and Gameday. And that's the ballgame.

Firing Hahn and Kenny after the deadline was stupid. Either let the clowns finish the season and do a real search for a real GM after the season, or fire their asses in April/May and hire a real GM among the more limited out of a current job pool. The Sox regularly make the worst decision possible, many times unfathomable, such as the TLR hire, and Thursday the Getz hire.

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
The primary rule change was a team could pull their revokable player waiver after the trade deadline and negotiate a trade, whereas now a player can be pulled back, but a trade cannot be negotiated (either the team allows the team to claim the player, or revokes the waiver and retains). With the new rules, it's unlikely a team would revoke the waiver since they are trying to get another team to claim the player and contract. https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/trade-waivers-aug-31-deadline

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
Yes, this was more like deferred compensation than a typical "mutual option", the way it reads on Cot's Contracts made me believe the Sox owed nothing if they accepted the $12M option and he declined. I posted what I found from Forbes an hour ago confirming the $4M is guaranteed even if the team wants the option and he declines. I don't believe this is how a typical mutual option works.

Pretty sure a few random dudes on Lower Wacker Drive would be an upgrade over Getz and Grifol. How do you bunt for the second out, let alone with one of your hottest hitters of late, to get to Lee? Unexplainable stupidity.

Yes, between the pitch count up and third time through, and what's left of the bullpen, thought the lead would end after the second hit allowed this inning.

Jake has slowed down recently (.549 OPS last 7 games), but hope he settles in and has a good September.- Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers

I know @CaliSoxFanViaSWside was interested prior to the Williams Hahn firing of Kenny Williams Jr. role with the team. On the James Fox podcast, they stated Kenny Williams Jr. was reassigned this season to the role of special assistant to the EVP, i.e. Kenny Williams, and is or will be out now that Kenny is gone. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/futuresox-podcast-kenny-williams-and-rick-hahn-are/id850054474?i=1000626041218- Update: 3 (2) fans injured by bullet in Guaranteed Rate field (split from game thread, police investigation underway)
Bill Veeck was the owner of Cleveland when Larry Doby was signed. He may have been thinking of when the Sox hired him as manager in 1978, but Frank Robinson was hired in Cleveland in 1974.- After an exhaustive search, Getz named GM/VP

OK, I saw a corresponding article that clarifies it. Cot's contract didn't say $4M due regardless, just said buyout which typically means a club declining for a mutual option. The Clevinger scenario is deferred compensation, $8M 2023 and $4M guaranteed in 2024, plus a $8M contract if both sides want it, which rarely if ever would happen (either he would want more or he sucks / is injured and the Sox would want out. In either case, it is not the same as a player only option or a team only option. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jaredwyllys/2023/08/29/mike-clevingers-mutual-option-in-play-with-the-white-sox/ The 32-year-old signed a one-year, $12 million contract last off-season with a built-in mutual option for next season that includes a $4 million buyout if either side chooses to part ways.- Sox place Clevinger on waivers
No, Pollock's was a player option, take the $5M buyout or $10M contract. 23:$10M player option ($5M buyout) Mike Clevinger & White Sox have a mutual option. Both agree = $12M 2024 Contract Clevinger accepts, Sox decline = $4M Buyout, Clevinger is an unrestricted 2024 free agent with $4M Clevinger declines = $0 exchanged, Clevinger is an unrestricted 2024 free agent with $0 due by his former team (Sox if unclaimed).- Sox place Clevinger on waivers
No, it's mutual, so it doesn't vest if Clevinger says no. Clevinger Yes = $4M buyout or $12M 2024 contract Clevinger No = $0, he is an unrestricted FA.- Sox place Clevinger on waivers

- Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
No, but Jerry is not going to want someone back who pissed him off during the two (2020 and 2021-2022) owner lockouts to the point he ordered Hahn to play arbitration hardball over a rounding error ($50K). They are not competing and have no intentions of extending him (and the QO is a non factor after his trade) so there is no point. - Burger To Marlins
