I thought the same thing when our HOFer mentioned it a couple of days ago. I was hoping for better.

At least Sheets is starting to look like he belongs.

Happens to all teams that are not playing up to expectations. it’s almost like they treated the regular season as a dress rehearsal. Well, other teams are hungry too and obviously hungrier than this one. is it the players, the manager, the front office? Injuries have not helped and I think Eloy and Abreu have maybe two good legs between them but a change in manager is needed. Signing a player that actually has a winning attitude would help too. Nothing was done and this team’s nucleus is still too young to deal with the expectations thrown at it all offseason. Add in a bad start and voila…
-
It’s pressure. It’s tougher to stay on top than actually getting there. I haven’t liked the mood since they lost the playoff series last year but I did think the team was fine until then. Of course, the lockout didn’t help but I can’t shake the feeling this team was never really ready to defend their Central title. Abreu’s preseason comments really concerned me and still do.

Just waiting for the next installment of the JR epic of how to take a young, exciting team and make them boring.

Honestly, I’d take 30 to 35 homers. -
Oh, I can pile on from the pitch selection to Kwan to the stupid shift on a darn good hitter, but the humbling fact is that Cleveland just plays a better brand of baseball than the Sox do right now. That’s on the management. Happened too many times this year. I would like to think this year is just growing pains but we do have to play smarter and get a helluva lot stronger.
-
Absolutely. This team is nowhere without those two. Honestly, where do we think the hype of this team emanated from the beginning? Sure, Anderson, Yoan, Cease, and Vaughn help but it was these two who were the studs. This is still a young, talented nucleus to play around Jose. They just need to get stronger and get through what has been a painful year. The front office also has to do a better job building around it. Lynn and Hendricks are fine. The rest just really hasn’t panned out. and I don’t want to pile on the TLR hate that is so present here after every loss but this is the wrong team for him. This team needs energy and someone who can take the pressure off a young nucleus.
-
However, he is still only 25. In fairness to Eloy, he took a Reggie-esque swing there and I have never really thought he had his legs under him since he came back. sometimes I feel he just tries to do too much and that is causing problems. Does hurt to see two lost seasons but Judge is 30 and was fairly injury prone. Just not ready to give up on him and it’s not like this team has a lot of options.
-
My God, these games in Arlington have been brutal to watch.... Been slow to criticize TLR, et al., but that has to be over now. 2 games out and I have never seen a more lifeless team. Maybe that is unfair but are we supposed to believe the Rangers have a staff to rival the 70s Orioles??? I would love to say Dunning has pitched a helluva game but how can that be true when we have seen this the entire series?
-
I would have a lot more respect for Yoan if he toned down his flair and swagger a bit and realized he is not playing well. It’s all okay and even fun if you’re playing well but you just look like a poster boy for what’s wrong with professional sports and long term contracts if you’re not. Having said that Moncada has zero confidence at the plate. It’s obvious. He’s guessing, looking only for that one pitch he feels he can hit. If that is on him or the hitting coach or a physical issue, I will let others debate but it’s not going to change if we keep trotting him out there to fail. As much as we need his left handed bat and defense, drop him in the order.

8/5 - Two steppin' in TX - Cease v Otto Game Thread - 7:05

Because this team was supposed to be better. I don’t hate this team but it has been a tough watch so far this year. Even wins like tonight make ‘winning ugly’ actually look, um, well, pretty. -
GT 8/2: You'll get nothing and like it

Lucas cost himself the run, walking the first two batters. -
What is your fascination with telling people to shut up? You have the right to show your frustration just as any Sox fan saying, ‘hey, the sun came up this morning and it’s a new day.’ Quit acting like only your opinion matters. As an aside, I have watched the Sox for decades and rooted for them. Being disappointed is part of the schtick.
-
Shut up? One, that is rude and secondly, while some of us are greatly disappointed with the season so far, we are cheering for better results. Bottom line: we were hyped into believing this (really unproven) team was better than it is. For one, I like watching when they have a chance to get to the playoffs. Do you know how many years that hasn’t been the case?
-
I haven’t given up in over 50 years, so why now? But, then again, maybe I need to seek professional help for still hoping that long.
-
Yeah, this is key. We have not seen much of the Robert-Abreu-Jimenez middle of the order over the past two years. That middle produces, maybe we can make a run.
-
The difference in this game was Buxton didn’t give up on a blast to the wall while Robert gave up on 2. Twins just played harder which is a common theme lately. TA not running is just icing on the cake. This reaction to injuries and such is just killing this team. You are not a playoff team if you don’t hustle.

Next four months…keys to survival that won’t cost as much

I am just not ready to jettison the team’s veteran leader based on a couple months of ABs. The track record is there and Abreu has always been a slow starter. I love Vaughn but I really don’t think he is ready for those big shoes.
