I am from the camp that always wants to see a youth movement in Chicago, because the Sox version of paying veterans is paying meh veterans on affordable old school contracts and hoping for a treadmill team pop up sans superstars. Who likes that crap.

If you’re out on that limb, that’s fine, I would not tell you any differently in a significant way. But before you count your money sitting at the table, it’s March pitching, against the Twins and Angels. And it’s a pretty decent bet guys like Robert aren’t going to finish the year as Sox. And the talent just is what it is.

By the way, I wasn’t posting to derail the topic so much, or to say there was necessarily anything wrong with Sasaki. It was about selfish concerns that we could have been dealing with this as Sox fans. On top of our normal burden of being a Sox fan.

Youth movements are always more interesting to a lot of people such as myself, given the alternative option of chasing .500 with some meh or shot veterans. This last rebuild that flamed out sort of goosed fan interest for awhile for sure. But that kind of thing is not going to work again unless the Sox begin bringing up their own talent that they scouted and signed. Canario, well I agree. I would have more fun having a beer in the stands watching guys like that more than the Benintendi of the world.

Whether or not the names can be called future “talent”, well that’s a real question to be debated. Some publications appeared slightly optimistic. But, yeah. Lots of work to be done.

I would be surprised if the Sox became buyers in any significant way this season. This year is going to be about alignment of the young players in seasons to come. They’re not interested in picking outside the top 3 for the 2026 draft imo. And they likely can’t do anything about it even if they wanted to.
