Until Leury and/or Engel are back, Goodwin is going to have to start vs LHP.
A bigger issue is that because the pitchers are so damn picky about who they throw to, we had Zavala starting against a righty last night and Collins against a lefty today.
I would bat Grandal 5th against RHP since he's the best source of LH power to put behind Eloy.
vs RHP: TA, Moncada, Abreu, Eloy, Grandal, Robert, Goodwin, Vaughn, Hernandez
vs LHP: TA, Moncada, Abreu, Eloy, Robert, Grandal, Vaughn, Engel, Hernandez
Based on what? MLB players get a smaller percentage of total revenues than the other major sports. Less money for the players just puts more money in the pockets of billionaires, it isn't going to trickle down to you or me.
8/19 update:
Sox now hold a 12 game lead over Cleveland, 13.5 over Detroit, with a magic number of 31.
Tampa Bay has a 5 game lead over New York and 6 over Boston.
Houston maintains a 2.5 game lead over Oakland.
Yankees now lead the Wild Card race by 1 game over Boston and Oakland, who are tied for the 2nd spot. Toronto 4 out
Tampa leads the playoff seeding race by 3 over the Sox and 3.5 over Houston.
In the NL, San Diego and Cincinnati both lost (both to pretty bad teams no less) so the Padres remain 1.5 up for the 2nd wild card.
In my mind, they have done an analysis of which guys are least likely to get claimed so they can re-sign them to minor league deals. In reality, it's probably based on what mood somebody's in that day.
Leury will replace Mendick when he returns.
Engel and Rodon will replace Wright and Burr when they return.
Marshall will have to demonstrate in his rebab that he's more valuable than Ruiz to get his spot back.
Collins only got 1/2 year at Charlotte in 2019 and then was at the alternate site most of 2020. I think he needs a full year of being a primary catcher at AAA to develop. . I think Zavala's ceiling is backup catcher so maybe live with him in 2022 or sign a guy for 1 year.
In a perfect world, the Sox get the #2 seed, Oakland #3, and Tampa, the Yankees and Astros all end up on the other side of the bracket.
Really unlikely to happen with Bassitt out but we can dream.
