Yermin has the ability to swing late to get the bat on a quality 2-strike pitch, very similar to Madrigal, but obviously with far more power. Until Eloy is back, Yermin and Vaughn can both get plenty of at bats, with Vaughn playing LF some and spelling Abreu at 1B some.

The MLB rule on protests states, " No protests are permitted on judgment calls by the umpires." However, the HBP rule clearly states, " Strikes supersede hit-by-pitches, meaning if the umpire rules that the pitch was in the strike zone or that the batter swung, the HBP is nullified." The umpire's judgment as to balls and strikes can't be questioned, but he admitted that the pitch was a strike, so this falls into the category of misapplication of a rule and not umpire judgment. Back to the protest rule, " If the play in question ended the game, a protest can be filed with the league office until noon the following day."

First of all, no Bears fan should ever use the "moving goal posts" analogy post-Parkey Secondly, there was no consistency from the beginning because there was a period of time where we didn't know exactly how it spread and how seriously things needed to be locked down and how much masks and distancing worked. By the time the scientists got a good grasp on what needed to be done, people yelling and screaming about lost small business income drowned out the scientists and we've never had anywhere near the level of compliance we've needed to get through this.

Royals vs Sox 5:20pm Home Opener GT
CentralChamps21 replied to Ducksnort's topic in 2021 Season in Review
Only thing I can figure with Williams over Vaughn is not wanting to risk putting him out in a wet outfield. Of course, it also could be to help keep the losing streak vs RH starters in tact. -

If you live nearby and have no problem being available to go to a game tomorrow, sure, but for people coming in from out of town or with work or other commitments that preclude them from attending tomorrow, they'd rather sit through the sprinkles. -

OP apparently used his own time zone instead of Chicago's, though with the rain it could very well be 4:10 before they can get going. -
Now 0-4 vs RHP.

Collins 1, Shift 0

An hour to play 2 innings. Really glad this is a day game.
-
Seems like there should be a limit on how deep the ball can be and still be catcher's interference. That ball was inches from being in Grandal's glove when the batter hit it.

Cubs with one hit through six innings tonight--very doable for Yermin.
-
On a per game basis, the Cubs are averaging 3.4 hits per game and Yermin is averaging 3.0.
-
I think the biggest problem with Yermin is the lack of position. I'm not aware of any prospect who was brought up through a system strictly as a DH. Travis Hafner is the closest comp I can find, but even he was nominally a 1B. You have to really be hitting to take away plate appearances from other prospects in the minors, and then keep hitting and have some kind of fluke injury situation lead to your chance in the majors. Now, if he keeps hitting, as in he gets 100 PA into the season and he still has an OPS north of .850 or so, then he's your DH and Vaughn can fight for playing time in LF.

I started following Dortmund in the Bundesliga because of Christian Pulisic and now Chelsea after his transfer, though with the Bundesliga games moving from FOX to ESPN+, I can no longer see their games. Both teams currently in the Champions League Quarterfinals.

You were actually in Major League?

https://www.tmz.com/2021/04/06/aaron-rodgers-jeopardy-trolled-nfl-tom-brady-shailene-woodley/ Aaron Rodgers was began his two week run as Jeopardy guest host yesterday. One of the contestants (who was too far behind to have a chance to win) trolled him pretty good with his Final Jeopardy answer. -

If they live in the Chicago area, they won't be able to watch any Cubs games on mlb.tv, home or away. The Cubs really screwed up in launching their own channel. They've run out of countdown shows of the 20 best whatever. I think this afternoon they are counting down the 20 best countdown shows.

The Sox going 14-0 vs LH starters last year got a lot of publicity, and deservedly so, but the Sox only finished 10 games above .500, so they were sub-.500 vs RH starters. I looked up the batting splits from last year, and the Sox had an OPS .138 lower vs LHP than RHP. Only five Sox hitters had an OPS greater than .750 vs RHP last year. Yolmer is gone, Eloy is out for several months, Engel is out for a couple weeks. That leaves Abreu and Madrigal. Two games so far this season against RH starters and only 3 runs scored in each game. There are certainly guys who have the ability to hit righties better, but they've been failing to do so for a while now. Somebody needs to figure something out to get these guys going. I know that rearranging a starting rotation during the season is very difficult, but I predict that if things don't start turning around soon, opponents are going to start getting creative to minimize their lefties' exposure to the Sox lineup.

I think he'll do a great job managing during games, it's his behavior the other 21 hours of the day I'm worried about.
