Bears should not be wasting either of their high 1st round picks on a QB. The last two Bears QBs to start NFC Championship games were Jay Cutler and Rex Grossman. Every acquisition this offseason should be OL, DL and DB, with maybe a mid-round WR thrown in there. Was a huge mistake to not go harder after Mike McGlinchey in free agency. Was a huge mistake to not try to trade for Zach Martin when he was holding out with Dallas. Was a huge mistake to only draft one OL this year. Get a better OL and a better defense and you can win with Fields or Bagent. Those top two picks need to be an OT and edge rusher.

Man the 49ers are good. I'd make them the favorites to win it all right now. Shows you that if you have a really good OL and skill players, you don't need a superstar QB to win. Bears need to stop worrying about Fields and very aggressively target OL and WR upgrades (plus the defense).

I wanted Eloy traded last offseason when his value was higher. He clearly has no defensive value and swings at way too many pitches outside the zone to be an effective DH. Burger would look much nicer at DH, but that's too late now.

So has the offense turned a corner or is this just a case of taking advantage of two really bad defenses? The defense can't be fixed, not with these players. Just not enough talent to stop anybody. Might as well gamble on turnovers and blitz like hell. If it results in long TDs that just gets us the inevitable result faster.

I think Jason Benetti is a solid baseball announcer, very good but not an all time great. However, I think he's an A++ football announcer. If there's not a big game I'm intent on watching, I'll look for whatever game he's doing.

What I am saying is that upgrading at QB, or any other position, is a futile effort if you don't fix the OL and DL first.

Trying to develop a QB, trade for a WR, upgrade your DBs, are all pointless activities when your OL and DL are so bad. Every single draft pick and free agent signing should have been OL and DL. Get those groups shored up and then spend next season looking at the other positions.

Arlington Heights is fine for a sport where there are only 8-9 home games per year and almost all on Sunday. It's terrible for a sport where there are 81 home games on all days of the week. I would love to see them find a way to make Soldier Field work. Best way to compete with the Cubs for attendance is to have a stadium near the major attractions that people are coming to Chicago to see. If that just isn't workable, then the UC site is definitely the best.

If Bears management has decided that they don't care about winning games this season and are going to do everything they can to develop Fields by having him stay in the pocket as much as possible, I'm OK with that. I just need to know that's what they're actually doing.

Kinda seems like if the defense doesn't defend it the same way the scout team did in practice he gets lost.

It really starts with the offensive line. I don't think the Bears have had an above average, or maybe even average offensive line this century. You're never just a QB away until you have a decent offensive line.

Love was far from great yesterday. Missed a lot of open receivers. The Bears have zero pass rush, yet they almost never blitzed. Can't give a QB that much time to sit back there and scan the field.

Yes, Georgia's schedule is pretty easy. Tennessee is the only game I see them potentially losing. We should get some new blood this year though. Alabama, LSU and A&M all with a non-conference loss just about ensures that we don't get 2 SEC teams in the playoff this year, and even then, Georgia won't have as easy semifinal game as they've had in the past. Michigan, Florida St, Texas and USC all look like very, very strong teams. Ohio State, ND, Penn St, Utah all have potential but haven't really been tested yet.

What you don't get to see watching a game on TV is how open/covered the receivers are. There were a lot of plays where Fields actually had a reasonable amount of time to throw and either didn't throw at all or threw the 2 yard pass to the check down back. If there's really nobody open then this is on the receivers and the playcallers. If there are guys getting open that Fields isn't throwing to, then that's on him. I would guess it's a combination of both.

I said back in November that the Sox needed to trade Eloy and go with Burger/Sheets as the DH combo. Saves salary and stashes your backup 3B and backup 1B on the roster.
