The history of the Soxtalk Whipping Boy
The game was in early July and the Cubs rebuilt the lead to eight games again. My point is that the Cubs are still talking about 1969, a year that ended up pretty s***ty, acting like it was yesterday, not five decades ago. And I'm criticized on here for sticking up for a guy who had one of the biggest hits in a World Series five years ago. I think many Sox fans are insane or insecure. I am not sure what the word is. When I think of Pods and Dye, I have great thoughts and these two guys have been mocked on here a lot. My point was if they had done what they did for the Cubs, they'd own this city not get mocked.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
There are a lot worse right fielders than Dye for most of his Sox career here and Quentin. We need some guys who can hit. Our defense has been pretty good since Teahen exited.

The history of the Soxtalk Whipping Boy
To those who still don't think Cubs fans would erect a statue for Pods for his home run in the WS had he done it for the Cubs: I go to the Sun Times site and there is a story on there today about the 1969 Cubs reliving some incident in a game in July. "On July 8, 1969, the first-place Cubs and Fergie Jenkins were leading the Mets 3-1 in the ninth inning at Shea Stadium when Young misplayed one fly ball into a double and had another fly ball fall out of his glove as he raced back to the wall. The Mets scored three runs and won 4-3. It was the Cubs' fourth straight loss and the Mets' fifth straight win to get them within 4 1/2 games of first place. The Cubs were feeling the heat and Santo, the team captain, didn't help when he publicly criticized Young for -- ironically -- letting his emotions and his offensive struggles get the best of him. "He was thinking of himself, not the team," Santo told reporters after the game. "He had a bad day at the plate, and he's got his head down. Don's a major-league player because of his glove. When he hits, it's a dividend, but when he fails on defense, he's lost -- and today he took us down with him. He put his head between his legs."" My god. Cub fans still going over every little detail in what turned out to be a horrible season five decades ago and Sox fans are supposed to bury some of their own from a team that won it all five years ago?? The criticism of Pods on here is insane. Some think I should forget 05 when Cub fans are still obsessing over a team that sucked back in 1969????? Where's the logic people?

Jenks Activated, Williams Sent Down
Thank god he's gone. I hope the new lefty can pitch because he's going to be used a lot as well. Anybody getting worried that Pena is now Randy Junior?

White Sox vs Royals - 7:10 PM
I said it was a "concern" that we are 1-2 versus the AL in our return to the AL. I didn't say it was over or anything. All in all, you have to admit it was a s***ty series. The key remains our starting pitching and our starting pitching is not going to be as strong as it was versus the NL. That's a concern. Nothing more or less at this point. I don't like our chances in Texas. Do you?

White Sox vs Royals - 7:10 PM
It's just a concern the team is playing like it did before the NL domination.

Sox should have been plus-240 tonight. Total butt kicking. As expected we needed to win the first two; Zack overpowers Sox today.

I'm far from an imbecile. I'd like you to point out what statements I've made that are off base except for the fact you and others may disagree with them. Just because you disagree with me doesn't mean I'm wrong. Pods happens to remain a good hitter by the way. I don't hate Pierre especially after getting the only hit vs. the Cubs, but arguably Pods is having a better year and would have been the better option for us. Didn't your mama tell you the world would be a dull place if everybody just bent over and agreed with everybody else?

I hope we're not trading him. I like him. If we are trading him ... well Greinke makes a lot of guys look foolish. I just like watching him play. Free Dayan!

How can it blow up in our face? Even if he fails, he's the BEST OPTION.

The history of the Soxtalk Whipping Boy
In my book, he does. I was asking you guys the question. Are you going to mock Paulie and boo him out of town if he remains a White Sox and has a simply horrible final year someday? He's not getting any younger and the potential of him having a rotten season to end his career some year is there. I think I know the answer. Dye was mocked heavily last year during his second half struggles. If you want to be a fan who lives for today only, fine. We differ.

Because heroes of sports championship seasons deserve better than that. Unless you buy them, championships are exceedingly rare.

The history of the Soxtalk Whipping Boy
The guys's home run was one of the top moments in Chicago sports history ... period. The guy should have a lifetime pass from fans in Chicago. Case closed. When you say Pods, you should think of one of the greatest moments in Sox history. One of the best days of your sports life. If you are "critical" of him my opinion is you should feel ashamed. That's my take. Paulie isn't getting any younger. Will he ultimately be booed out of town if he sticks around to finish his career here? Odds are his final season whenever it is will not be a pretty one. Where do you draw the line??

The history of the Soxtalk Whipping Boy
Yes but we Sox fans are so much better than Bears fans. We don't care about greats like Singletary. That was ONE YEAR! One Super Bowl by god. We Sox fans ... we demand to win it every year! Yeah let's see how many we'll have won when we are on our deathbeds. It's not easy, folks. Sox will be lucky to win two more WS in your lifetime. One probably will be more like it. .... but he got picked off a few times.

The history of the Soxtalk Whipping Boy
What did you do when Pods hit the home run? Don't you feel a little dirty five years later bagging on him after enjoying that moment so much? This is one of the things wrong with today's world by the way. Past performance means nothing anywhere. He gets picked off a few times in a meaningless season ... he's a bum. You have a bad week at your job nowadays. Some team meeting will throw you out on your butt. Pods rocks!

Oh in case you want to rip Pods some more. Read No. 4 on this list. Look at the pure emotion in the picture. Wow. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_leagu...?urn=mlb,203435

The history of the Soxtalk Whipping Boy
Do you remember the home run?? How big it was?? Anybody who cheered that home run and slugged shots and drinks after that home run and kissed hot stranger girls in the bars after the home run has no right to say a negative word about Pods. My god. Cub fans are still talking about how great those 69 Cubs were and they choked and didn't win squat that year. Pods rocks. Oh I forgot Pods got picked off a few times in a season where the team wasn't going to win anything significant anyway. Pods gets the last laugh: He has the hottest wife and has money to burn.

White Sox vs Royals - 7:10 PM
You were right. I was wrong. I guess they are banking on Peavy being almost as good as Zack. This game should be viewed as another Strasbourg (sp) game again. Zack is back on track.

The history of the Soxtalk Whipping Boy
There is Pods hate. People were mocking him for ending the game with a K despite the fact he drove in 2 of KC's three runs. I still don't understand whipping boy status of guys like Pods who has provided one of the greatest individual memories in the history of Chicago sports. Just baffles me. Maybe it is the hot wife theory. I know he'd have a statue built of him if he was a Cub for what he did in the WS.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
That's true. Good observation. I can see why Oz got tossed tonight though. That last called strike on Pods was so high compared to the belt high pitches the ump was calling balls a majority of the game. I'm glad he rung up Pods but that was high compared to the belt high pitches the guy was calling balls.

The history of the Soxtalk Whipping Boy
My opinions of the whipping boys you stated. ... 2002: Most of the starting staff: I can't remember those guys. 2003: Billy Koch: He deserved all criticism. Total hack. 2004: Timo Perez: I didn't get worked up over such a non factor. 2005: Timo Perez: See above. 2006: Brian Anderson: He was such a bad hitter it was sad more than mad. 2007: Take your pick 2008: Nick Swisher: I despised him. he sucked as a Sox. 2009: DeWayne Wise: I worshiped him. 2010: Mark Kotsay: Don't like him a bit. I thought Garland took a lot of heat on here. Also, Pods, Bobby Jenks, Liney (deservedly so) and Randy Williams (deservedly so). Erstad also was horrible and deserved the criticism but he also was so bad you almost felt sad for him.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Good win because it's a win. Royals fans will be blaming the manager like Sox fans do after every loss. One on nobody out in the ninth against Putz who was not overpowering anybody. Try to bunt with Yuni on just one strike. Then they let him hit and he weakly flies out to right. Then Bloomquist tries to steal and is thrown out for out No. 2. Then Pods whiffs. Thanks, Royals.
