  1. I loved Chet as well. I copied the way he got under a fly ball in cf. He'd tap his glove on his knee. The guy was one of my all time favorites. He hit that ball hard. I saw him make some incredible catches in Comiskey, just incredible.
  2. Great win. Applause for pretty much everybody except Dotel. He's got good stuff sometimes. Why is he so frickin inconsistent? I saw Griffey had an oh-fer. Did he have decent at bats or no? KC is a joke. They play their ass off against us. You watch, they'll be swept by the Twins. We got to keep beating a damn good team this week in the BoSox.
  3. Man they got good starting pitching on paper. This should be really interesting. Hope we're on our game like we were against the Cubs in The Cell.
  4. We can't make our big slow guys fast. Cox should realize this and as annoying as station to station baseball can be, we can't send plodders home from second.
  5. You guys are nutso. If he likes Brian Anderson and respects him for going to college and he's his No. 2 favorite, that's great. The guy likes Brian Anderson. I put Gary Peters No. 2 I guess. I've already forgotten my list. So my No. 2 got GP on the list. I liked him cause I was a litte kid who liked his pitching motion and hitting ability. The guy loves BA. So what if he put him No. 2. Somebody on here may have put Wayne Nordhagen who was a stiff. If they love Wayne they love Wayne more power to 'em. s*** somebody might like BA's batting stance and put him on their list as a favorite.
  6. Wow. That is simply amazing how much the cost of tickets have gone up. Some funny stories in here. Bob it sounds like what you are aching for wouldn't cost that much. You buy 50 baseballs online, used baseballs, and a mitt and a couple bats or one aluminum bat (perish the thought). You advertise on here or wherever for some guys to go to a h.s. field or some field and take batting practice. After the 50 balls are hit, you get exercise running to get them. The only catch. The batter must make sure he pulls the ball. No screamers up the middle or you'll end up in the hospital believe me. BTW our LL manager also wouldn't let us swim. If he saw your eyes were red you were benched. Interesting what Ryan said about guys not throwing enough. I just can't help but think my friend with the powerful arm didn't do it any good busting curves from the age of 10 through 12 on almost a daily basis during the summer months, also in LL games, in Babe Ruth games, then at Bro Rice til he needed surgery.
  7. Gary Peters would roll over in his grave if he was dead, but if ya love Ozuna ya love Ozuna.
  8. Man that Rangers' fan really thinks we're going to fade. Kinda scary.
  9. I always liked Tom Gordon. How is Kip (The Worst Pitcher in Baseball) Wells doing in relief? Has he found a niche finally?
  10. Didn't see the game. Is Griffey looking poor in the field? Somebody alluded to it. Would have been very nice to sweep especially against Miner who ain't very good. Two out of three is fine, but the BoSox are coming to town. We better be ready to play. They are damn good as you all know. OC and AJ 0-10 tonight? Yuk. Griffey an oh-fer. Javy not so great. Time to strap 'em up. Minnesota vs. the lousy Royals while we battle the BoSox.
  11. I think he came back for the all Century team or something special. He was honored in some way. He was pretty darn good. Like most all players of his era he didn't make much money playing baseball. I think these guys had to get jobs in the offseason.
  12. I also saw Luzinski and Kittle hit roof shots. My god what blasts. And of course Dick Allen deep liners to cf. The Bull could hit the ball. I forgot about him. He was one of my favorites too. I wonder what he's doing now and how big he is. He was a likeable lug sort of like Kruk only more powerful.
  13. Thanks for the Aug. wallpaper. It's sad to think just a couple more months of regular season baseball. God the seasons fly by.
  14. I'm saying you don't acquire Griffey to sit him in his home opener. That would be really strange if not dumb. Why acquire him then? It would have been bizarre.
  15. It really would be nice to sweep. Generally I'd be elated at a series victory, but Det. is now nine back I believe in the loss column and the way we beat 'em in game one followed by an efficient game two win, makes me really want sweep. Boston as you all realize is damn good. They came back to drub a hot KC team the last 2 nights after getting nipped in the opener.
  16. Of course Los Medias. It always was a thrill buying the white rubber ball at the store near Mt. Greenwood School. I don't recall ever buying more than one. Usually our game went 9 innings unless the ball got broken in half in about the 7th inning. That ended the game. You are right you only needed 2 players. The fence stopped the grounders and liners. If somebody homered over the fence the batter got on his bike and went to get the ball. We never spray painted the wall, just chalk for the strike zone. The school might have balked at the spray paint. You had to bat lefty once an inning if you were a righty; vice versa if you were a true lefty to make it a little easier on the arm. I remember our LL manager demanded nobody play the game on the days we had a LL game. We actually obeyed him. You also could play 2 on 2 and put an outfielder out there. I drove through the old neighborhood last year on a trip to Chicago and Mt. Greenwood School had a big ol flower display in the middle of the lot. I'm wondering if they did that years ago so kids couldn't play that game anymore. I noticed it was pretty big and would likely pretty much hinder kids who wanted to play fast pitch in modern times. I had a friend who dominated LL and Babe Ruth. He threw his arm out pitching for Brother Rice and was finished. I had to wonder if all those games of fastpitch, pretty much on a daily basis, with curveballs galore helped contribute to his demise. He was really a good pitcher. A shame. Most agreed he was major college bound at least. Never was the same after throwing out his arm.
  17. Excellent win. Just the kind of win you'd hope for after breaking Detroit's heart the night before. Good job, Sox. We love these type wins. Didn't Cora manage again tonight? Yikes ... Cora our good luck charm? The pressure's on Oz to keep it goin'.
  18. Good thing we passed on this guy. Looks like he's lost his closer's job or been put into committee.
  19. You don't acquire Griffey to sit him. He's Griffey. Like you said the fans would have been furious.
  20. You tell me then why Anderson and Wise are options in cf? They are never going to play; Oz will never consider playing them except in the eighth or in a spot start so why would you call them OPTIONS?? They are not options in centerfield.
  21. I thought the topic was CFs who Oz actually would consider letting play more than once a week. BA and Wise are scrubs in his mind. Anderson and Fields appear to be total scrubs in Oz's mind. Hell, Uribe has beaten out Fields and BA does not play. They are not options in cf except for the eighth inning or play once in a blue moon.
  22. I guess you are right about the mental toll in the heat. Cause every team spells its regulars all the time. I wonder which player has played in the most consecutive games in baseball right now.
  23. What don't you understand? Wise and BA are not going to start or do anything except play once a week or come in the late innings. We have no good defensive everyday options in cf right now. You think they are going to play over Swish or Griffey??
  24. I still don't understand how actually sitting out a game makes a guy fresh. It's not like the guy didn't take BP, didn't run, didn't do all the other things. He just didn't bat four times and didn't jog out to his position every inning and didn't run the bases. I'd love to sit down and talk to a major leaguer or 10 about this topic of staying fresh. I'd ask Oz but he's yet to answer my email.
  25. They are options for CF??? No way in hell are they going to start.
