Good story by Couch today I thought in the Sun Times. If our pitchers continue "throwing slower" including Mark, we're doomed. We're gonna get massacred in August if those pitches don't have something on 'em.
  2. I wouldn't say the current writers are bland. The team has been bland; they've been fine.
  3. Did BMac pitch well yesterday? I only saw him give up the single and Hawk ripping him for throwing a change on the first pitch. Is he a victim of our soft toss disease this season or is his fastball popping?
  4. he hasn't lost 'em. Now Coop has some work to do. Coop needs to work overtime figuring what we need to do. I agree with the poster who said we need to go to a six man rotation for a while. Or put Mark on the 15 day to rest his arm.
  5. Harry you ever heard of a slump? The Sox are in one. The reason this is totally magnified is Det and Minnie are playing like world champions. They win almost every night out. We're in a major slump. We are not done. The pitching is a big big concern. I didn't even like the way McCarthy threw today. That soft spiff is a concern of all our pitchers. I still don't think we're done. Not with the fishing wild card.
  6. Question to you then: Do you think Ozzie managed well in our close games last posteason? Yes or no?
  7. Sorry but that is simply not true. If his decision making has always been bad we would not have won all those games last postseason. Some of those games were close, as I recall. Managers are so easy to blame. Oz is not a bum. I'm not saying he's the best in baseball history but I guarantee you with the exception of the Tigers this year if you followed every team closely you probably would consider that team's manager as bad as Ozzie. When teams lose a game unless it's 13-0 there's always something to blame the manager about. I can't believe you think Ozzie's "in game decision making has always been bad."
  8. I like everything about Oz, especially the fact he led the sox to its first baseball title since Babe Ruth was a baby.
  9. Uh oh, you guys fighting with each other could lead to vacations. Gramps is uncalled for. It does beg the question. What players do you think deserve our support right now? I would say in terms of trying hard of late (though I can't prove it) I'd back Iguchi, Thome, Konerko, Crede, Garland the most as well as BA I guess. GO SOX
  10. I don't feel hopeless but it grows old that I'm coming to expect losses much like last September before Cleveland dropped the fly ball in cf against the Royals and we got our spiff together and dominated the rest of the way.
  11. I guess it's possible Thome could be part of the "problem" but from all I've read about him he's the consummate pro, etc., and I was just lamenting the fact he's with the Sox a year too late apparently. I think he's been here long enough to kick some ass. From "appearances" I get the feeling he is a gamer who wants it pretty badly. So turn over some tables.
  12. Good post by fathom about the DVD. I want it just as badly but we did win it all last year and nobody can take that away. That was perfection. This slump sucks big time, especially losing so many at home. We're going to want these home losses back at some point. I have to believe we're going to be in the wildcard race all year. A team with this kind of talent can't keep losing eight of every 10 games or Oz is probably gonna lose his mind if not resign.
  13. I just wish Thome would destroy the clubhouse. He deserves better than this. He's been around long enough and has performed well enough to kick some ass. We're wasting a helluva season by Jim. He needs to kick some ass while we're still even in the wild card race and not 5 back.
  14. Good post Parque. I disagree with your post getting mad at Oz for standing up for his mediocre starters, however. He shouldn't blast them in the media. The alarming thing about this slump is we're not winning at home. We go on the road and suck a week and we're gonna be 10 over .500 before long and 4 down in the wild card. Losing at home is not good. It sux.
  15. I just don't understand why critics of Oz think putting in relievers earlier would help. Our relievers have not been outstanding. See Politte who is long gone, etc. I do agree it's BMac time in the rotation. We need somebody who can strike somebody out instead of all soft tossers.
  16. I agree. This has been our first real real slump. The reason we are not going to survive it is the Tigers and Twins win every series. There has been no margin for error and one critical slump is probably enough to doom us unless we get our pitching together soon and battle for the wild card. It's not like our bullpen has been dominant. If it wasn't Vaz it woulda been Cotts or Riske getting lit the way it's been going.
  17. Cmon that is just not true. My god, we didn't win the title just by taking the field.
  18. By the way, he is not a fishing idiot. He's a good manager who led Chicago to its only title since gas was 10 cents a gallon.
  19. Cotts is not exactly Mariano Rivera, either. Why oh why can't Vazzy continue his excellence past five innings?
  20. I'm hoping for the best, but people in KC have learned to not trust Mac. He's wild and he's still considered a "prospect" at 29. He's not very good. Hopefully a change in scenery will help him consistently get the ball over the plate. Expect some maddening outings of him walking the bases loaded unless Coop can work wonders.
  21. I agree. Soriano will be no cure all. The magic was there last year; this year it's been gone during this current slump. Unfortunately for us, the Tigers and Twins win every series so we're basically hosed until those teams come down to earth. We are definitely not treading water, we're falling like an anchor.
  22. You look at 3 games and you probably will lose all 3. It's plod away one at a time like the Tigers have been doing.
  23. I just hope the team does the incredibly dull cliche and play it one game at a time from here on out. Big series or no big series we just have to worry about the Sox playing like they can. Pitching and defense baby. Day in and out from here on in the starters have to step it up like Jon did today.
  24. Even though Oz is mad and Garland didn't hit the batter I'm glad he didn't because we probably would have lost the game had he gotten tossed. Judging trom the comments I've seen, Oz called out Garland somewhat to the media and Garland is taking it well. Some may think Jon is a puss but he has pitched great of late. I'll take his awesome effort today over beaning a guy and getting tossed and Brandon being off and getting lit up possibly.
  25. good posts. I'm probably lucky not many games have been on tv out here lately. It seems like ages since our series beating up on the NL teams.
