Jon Garland will never be dominant. He doesnt have overpowering stuff, and hes mentally weak. I have seen him pitch on TV where he's appeared dominant to me. That's why I hate to see him traded and become another Kip. As far as the mental makeup, like somebody said before if he is a headcase and has no hope of improving in that regard and our coaches know this, then I'd agree to trade him. But only if there is no hope upstairs.
  2. Keep it rolling, Jim. This is so cool to have a player posting. You must continue when you make it to the big club. p.s. Question: Do we fans make too big a deal out of clubhouse chemistry or is it important?

Good point hotsoxchick but if we let him go aren't we doomed to seeing him become Tom Seaver revisited?

I watched most of the Sat night game on TV. Garland pitched well. He pitched well enough to again resemble a good major league pitcher. Do you folks think the Sox simply have to throw Garland out there every fifth day for the next 12 years and he's going to at some point prove dominant? He's too good to trade me thinks.
  5. I want to win, win, win. If we fire JM fine, but I'm so sick of losing I would never want a losing streak just to get rid of JM. We won 2-3 vs the Twinks and didn't really hit much today. Garland pitched well yesterday. I'm thinking we may have to ride the storm out. I mean Minn. appears to be average at best and the Royals aren't going to run away with the division. No way.
  6. That was a bad loss. Lopez came in relief and was horsebleep right off the bat. You have to admit, it seems like the Sox have one of those games every year that we always point to as THE turning point in our demise. That was one tough loss for the Royals.
  7. Good point about the ledge. Maybe this is the year we just have to ride it out and be patient. Though we did do what some posters said to fire us up. We did have a fight and the skipper did get thrown out. Nice observations on this board after game one I'd say.
  8. That article said: There is no shortage of replacements lurking in the wings. Bobby Valentine, with a track record for quick fixes, is a telephone call away. The choices already on the payroll include Wally Backman, who has done great things in Birmingham; former Philadelphia manager Nick Leyva, a roving instructor after managing stints at Charlotte and Bristol; Bruce Kimm; and--wild guess here--Harold Baines. I'd vote for Backman for no real reason if we can our skipper. But perhaps we should be patient. It's obvious we have the best team in this weak ass division and there's no way JM can not lead us to the crown.
  9. Is Koch that bad? If he is, it's the Sox jinx hitting again. He sounded like a great acquisition in the offseason.

Why don't we just get rid of the cancers Jose is talking about. I'd rather lose with Miles and guys who hustle. Look at the Royals winning with nobodys so far. If it's Frank get rid of Frank. If it's Lee get rid of Lee. If it's Konerko get rid of Konerko. What's Colon up to? Why isn't he leading the ship with Jose V? We need to start hitting the fricking baseball.
  11. In the offseason we thought our lineup was invincible. Maybe it will heat up if we give it time. This is one of those dry spells. We either fire JM soon or ride this out. Our lineup can't be this bad
  12. I'd rather win tonight than get JM fired. I'm sick of losing.

Good point on Guzman moving the runner over, also. Winning teams know they simply have to do those things to get it done. We still must have a selfish clubhouse. I thought Daubauch and Koch would take care of it, but obviously not. And if Sandy isn't then get rid of Sandy

If that's true about Rios, I don't even want him on the team. Did you see KC's Ken Harvey screwed up a bunt today in a tie game in the ninth then whacked a 3-run homer when the sign was taken off? I guess we are a hexed team maybe for all time. I wish we had Piniella to work with this team. Cause frankly, who are we gonna hire when we can JM? It's going to have to be someone on his staff or the minors right now? Is Bucky Dent the man? If we lose tonight, I'd can JM. It's getting serious.

This may sound stupid, but do you think the Sox do not take it one game at a time?
  16. Good post Zach, I liked it. And I feel for those like Heather who can't afford to go. That truly sucks.
  17. Good points plu. When you said prudent I thought of those George Bush skits on Sat. Night Live "wouldn't be prudent." I agree with you. I'm just frustrated at this time.
  18. I thought we'd show more heart this year with Daubauch and Jose V our regular ss. And adding Koch. But we're playing bad ball. I realize if we win 10 in a row I'll be a big JM fan again, but folks we probably really should fire him. Like Baggs and Heather said, it looks like the same ol s***. We may need a change for the sake of change. p.s. As soon as Borchard is ready health wise, it's Joe time.
  19. Good points Roman and funny, too. We can go 1 of 2 ways. 1.) Support JM and figure we are too good to play .500 ball. Or 2.) Fire JM and promote somebody from our organization who frankly probably won't be any better. What should we do, folks. We may have to ride this out and wait for the warm weather to heat up our bats. But I would not scream if we canned JM. It sure is frustrating, tho.
  20. Oops I hadn't been on the board recently and finally read several threads and many of you also trashed Gordon. Sorry for the redundant post. GO SOX!
  21. I used to be high on Aaron but a lot of you pointed out he had no chance to be a star. With his slow start I'm starting to waver in my confidence. Why can't these young guys hit .250 for a while during their struggling times. The .098 batting averages are not good and force changes. That's why I'm happy Crede started relatively fast this season and after we brought him up last year. Aaron may be finished with the Sox in 3-4 weeks because of this horses*** start.
  22. Baggs said: i was jerry's biggest supporter until how he mishandled the foulke situation..it still bothers me to talk bad about his performance and i want to defend him when i see others who have been ripping him from day one do it in an unfair way...but i think we are almost to the point where the only thing that will make this team play to potential is the firing of manuel.. if the players really like and admire manuel then this west coast road trip should be their chance to save his job...because if we come back with our tails between our legs he has to go...that should be made clear to the players too...and it should also be made clear that player changes will be made along with jerry going should this happen they should all know they are playing for their jobs on this next road trip..then we will see who wants to play and who doesnt How can anybody argue withi Baggs? He is 100 percent correct. This is the correct take on the situation. This is it. Does anybody disagree with Baggs? He hit the nail on el head.
  23. Hey, I haven't seen many games on TV unfortuantely, but do read the boxes, recaps, articles, etc. and I am thinking Flash Gordon needs to go. Am I off base or is this guy not so good? We seem to have plenty of pitchers capable of filling his role. To those of you who have seen most games ... is Gordon done? I don't think we need him coming into games and giving us the ugly linescores he's been giving us. Should Flash be dismissed ASAP or are you hopeful? I am thinking it's time for Flash to depart. Comments?
  24. Good points SII. I wonder if Garland is dumb or a flake. I don't know the guy, but if he is as dumb as dirt and a guy who simply cannot improve then I'd agree it may be time to dump him.
  25. I thought Daubach would be awesome, too. I wonder why he can't get a hit to save his life.
