  1. This is not a good take. You feelings about locker room mentality do not hold water this season because of COVID. MLB and NBA and some other sports are make believe cause of the kind of cash these players make. For a guy to sit out and pass up this kind of money, that in itself means it's serious. His teammates will be fine with him and welcome him back. For one this is the age of COVID .You wanna opt out; you opt out! Second if there are family issues or mental issues you opt out. If anybody complains they are the ones with the problem. As far as him getting a ring if the Sox won it all ... teams give rings to a lot of people. I remember reading some former Chiefs player got a ring in the mail the other day. So no harm in giving MK a ring if Sox win it. Players don't wear those huge rings much anyway; they put them away for keeping in a display box.
  2. Mental issues, if he has them ,are issues. We're taught that all the time. We're taught to prevent suicides by tackling mental issues. Just because it affects your fandom doesn't mean your take on this is correct. He's not a bum if he's taking care of personal problems and mental health. This is being done in society all the time. You have to take care of yourself. That's the No. 1 rule in the world. Take care of yourself and your family falls in line with that as well. You should be sad for yourself if that is your true position.
  3. I know I'm biased but Jose Abreu!!!! I've watched the replay of an easy ground ball out. Jose beats it out. As far as I'm concerned his beating out that single with no fricking fans in the stands is one of my favorite hits in my White Sox fandom!!! Lot of heroes of course, but Jose Abreu is a superstar in terms of caring.
  4. On paper, you bet the house on Minnesota tomorrow. But it's baseball. You never know. Lopez is due to show something.
  5. Yes Sox do need to line up Keuchel, then Giolito for games one and two.
  6. I don't know why you disagree. Dunning, Giolito and Cease are all excellent prospects but as far as a postseason threesome, they are not exactly money. And Lopez? Tomorrow is a huge game for him. If he gets blasted, I'd suggest shipping him to Schaumberg the rest of the season/postseason and try it again next spring. if he's good? Fine, then he's back in the mix.
  7. I really don't care what team we play in this crazy Covid season. I'm just hoping it's fate it's Sox vs. Cubs in WS. If fate/destiny is on our side, it can't be stopped. When I think about pure "baseball," I don't think we can beat Tampa, NYY or Oakland in the playoffs. Sox aren't ready for prime time.
  8. Great win. I love how the Twins were acting up in the latter innings, getting mad at the ump and ejected. Frankly it seemed pathetic on their part. Nobody can boss the Sox around anymore. I'd take Eloy and Abreu and Tim and Moncada and huge Robert in a scrap against the Twins. I won't take these wins for granted. All the nice performances including Dunning and Robert and McCann and of course TA and Abreu. Beautiful.
  9. Well, the fact Stone didn't back Ricky there when given a chance means he thinks RR is a bozo. Interesting. I love Stoney though. But I think RR deserves some credit.
  10. Great win. Engel with the amazing base hit. Tim Anderson, Abreu, etc. Colome nice job. Great team victory. Have to love the victory.
  11. I doubt they'd be so petty to fire Steve Stone over RR complaints on Twitter. But you are probably right about him thinking Ricky is not a good manager. He's definitely sarcastic in both those tweets mentioned above. Interesting he'd go there. Obviously he's playing with house's money at his age. Obviously he'd be fine if he got canned.
  12. I was gonna start a thread on RR now staying forever but I'll put it in here. Yes, all hail our hitting coach. Whether he's the cause for this or not ... he will benefit from this and be a hero in Chicago and get credit for this best hitting team in Sox history. Deservedly so. Sox are better than anybody in this all or nothing HR or K era. Hitting coach deserves credit. As far as RR, if we finish out September this good, he's probably going to get a well deserved extension. His ability to relate to the players is really all that matters. He speaks the primary language of many of them. Sure we can nitpick a pitching decision here and there, but RR has the right buttons pushed. Players love him apparently and he obviously lets Cooper and the hitting coach run their groups. Just when I think Jose needs a "rest," he gets 4 hits and knocks in 7. RR knows what he's doing. Folks, if we finish this baby with the first or second best record, RR is here for as long as he wants. He's stopped the insane bunting and players love him! (I guess if he somehow plays small ball in the playoffs and returns to the bunt or does something crazy he still could get fired someday, but I don't think he does that; the bunting is over). Go Sox and let's keep winning!
  13. I may be wrong. Anderson may be the MVP. He's so good it's scary. Jose is my guy but geezus Tim Anderson is so good a hitter it's hard to fathom.
  14. Wow. Timmy and Jose. Greg haters have to give me credit for never wavering on Jose and praising him all last season amid some haters who didn't want to pay him. Many didn't want to pay him. If we make the playoffs and Jose is still over .300, he's MVP. His RBI and HR numbers assure that. Not that I have anything against Tim. I just think Jose currently the most important player on this team with Timmy of course right there. GO SOX. GO PITCHING TONIGHT. GO HITTING TONIGHT.
  15. When did he decide to go to Schaumberg instead of just play in that six-team league? If he is in Schaumberg that means the White Sox still have some hope for him. If that other league was so great they'd have a lot of current MILB players in it. When was the change of heart to put him in Schaumberg?
  16. No reason for me to take this win for granted. This was a special win. Eloy really came through. It's special to beat a guy who had a no hitter through five. Giolito did a nice job. After all those losses for so many years against the Central, it's tremendous to kick butt. Twins may have Sox number, but who cares right now? Sox won a game in which they got three hits. Great victory. Eloy's home run was epic.
  17. You wait and see how we are going to be printing money in the near future. I won't cause a controversy here by explaining where. If you want to chat about it PM me.
  18. We are taking about restaurants and stores. I've been in restaurants eating and there's nobody near me There are waitresses though and the people I'm eating with, never a full cramped table of 4 or anything. This is what confuses me. We're expressing problems with dining and shopping and having 3 in a pew at church, but I haven't sensed any angst about flying. Cmon. You are packed like sardines on planes. How can planes not be a HUGE problem. I still think this is all political and all screwed up about where is 'safe' and where 'isn't.'

If the Sox make the playoffs and Jose doesn't fall off the map the rest of the regular season and wind up at .250 or something, I think he'll get it as a lifetime good person/player achievement award. Nobody knows if Jose is going to keep bashing or taper off with a 1 for 30 or something. TA could get it too for his being a young star.
  20. Thanks for your take. It's not ALL up to the individual though if work wants u traveling.
  21. greg775 replied to hi8is's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If that's true, he'll play here 15 seasons or more. As long as his defense is stellar.
  22. Corona numbers seem to be going down in hotspot Kansas a tad. What's everybody's opinions on travel these days? I'm against it. I feel like no matter what people say, getting on a plane is ridiculously dumb (I don't want to get corona and lose my sense of smell and taste and die). Why? Even if they say it's safe, cmon. People move their masks to eat snacks. People move their masks just like they recline their seats. I feel like no matter what they say, a plane is a corona nightmare. Also, cmon. those overhead bins are dirty. Cmon, the guy in the middle seat is in your face, in your business. Just getting up to deplane you will be next to a zillion people. Then the hotel? Cmon. Germs abound. And the uber? And the rental? All the people u run into on the road? I deem my odds of getting corona following a 4-day road trip at 85 percent. What do u all think? I haven't got it yet .Those of you who believe, please pray for me and all of us to stay healthy. Corona blows.

Second basemen are a dime a dozen. If he can be a supurb fielder and hit .280 with 0 homers and 47 RBIs in a regular season that will be fine. Now if he sucks fielding and does that, he gone. He doesn't ever figure to make big bucks as you say. If he can get one of those 6 year deals right now that teams sometimes give can't miss prospects he'd be smart to do so. Six years, 36 million. He should take it.
  24. Good points but Gonzalez would be a nice veteran bullpen piece for the postseason possibly. There's a chance he could get hot and be a reasonable arm. As a starter, no way you'll get more than 4 innings or 5 out of him.
  25. If the Sox make the playoffs and win it all without Dallas, it'd be the first time a team won it all with such a blah to horrid pitching staff. It'd be all offense and RR would be manager of the century. Dunning and Cease and Giolito have each had sensational moments but as a group should concern no opponent, at least at this stage. The bullpen also is hugely suspect again despite sensational moments.
