  1. Hey Balta, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State and Duke bring their wild, enthusiastic legion of fans to the Champions Classic to the United Center on Nov. 10. I'm not trying to rip you just ask your kind opinion. Do you think Lightfoot will announce soon no way on that one-night event? Or do you think it has a chance of being OKed and played via approval from the mayor the Illinois governor? ESPN is pretty powerful as u know. Also ... I thought I read somewhere I think it was Texas that has OK'ed 50 percent capacity for sporting events? So I wonder if baseball would allow that for Rangers games and Stros games? Thanx in advance for your opinion. I ask you cause you seem a bit alarmed about even the Sox allowing 4,000 fans.
  2. Sorry for the pain you've gone through. As a fellow human being who doesn't know you, I do care about what you've gone through. Hang in there. Fight for that workers comp and fight to get unemployment. If they filled your position you ARE likely eligible for unemployment. Hope you feel better and can work again someplace where you can put food on table.
  3. The Royals announcer was talking about pitchers going 3-4 innings max the first month at least. Wonder if he's right.
  4. I am 100 percent for my $1 million reparations plan. I think it would go a long ways toward making up for slavery and appeasing future riots, etc. Again ... a million bucks per family should get almost everybody on their feet and out of poverty and feel like America is truly righting a wrong. If $1 million per individual and/or family isnt' enough, I don't know what to say about that. Make the wealthiest individuals pay as much of the tax as we deem possible, then print the rest of the money and the economy deals with it later. How come nobody is commenting on my reparations plan? Can you imagine the debates? Trump is going to be against reparations. Biden for them. Specifics, Joe? Can you imagine if he says, $5000 per family or something? That's why I say $1 million. It's indisputably fair. Anything Joe promises is going to be very very insulting folks. 2000 dollars? Cmon.
  5. Thing is ... people won't acknowledge that mean, selfish Greg has actually been a responsible citizen. I've obeyed all government orders here. I have sheltered as much as anybody else. And I wear my mask where it's required for certain and I put it on out of respect if I see those working in the stores have theirs on. I have been a good citizen through all this. My contact with human beings has been very minute until the past week or so. I've noticed traffic is much greater now and things are opening up. Our spike will be incredible when the students come back. Douglas County has had so so so few cases so far here.
  6. This is just another example of how we all hate each other in America. It's doomed. My guess is the violence will be the new normal. We hate each other, let's face it. (You are not going to get consensus on a topic like masks when politics rules the country 24/7).
  7. Maybe I'm just dense but I have never heard of Juneteenth until this year. Never. I think this talk is just more partisan politics as always. Who the heck ever talked of Juneteenth before this political season of rallies? Pardon me if it's very common; I swear on a stack of Bibles I'd never heard of it before a week or two ago. Now it's everything.
  8. Great offer. Let's play ball. Pro rated salaries. Don't these players want their millions? Accept it. Hard to believe but baseball is almost back!
  9. And depending on Trump's mood that day, it could get really ugly regarding masks. I think most of us can see Trump grabbing the mike and cracking some jokes about masks being for wimps or something. He shouldn't do that. Unfortunately this like EVERYTHING nowadays is political. No matter what some are saying about "most of the people" during the "peaceful" nightly marches and riots wore masks, that simply is very very debatable as far as being true. Cmon. There were and still are nightly protests and big time rallies and these should be called out for being huge spreaders of covid-19. Let's face it, Trump certainly is holding this and all rallies as a bit of a frick-you to the governors who turned the other way and NEVER. blasted the protestors for huge gatherings. It's a "get-even' by Trump for sure. What a world we live in, folks. ps. I saw this story AFTER my take. yes it's ALL political and Trump is getting the last laugh on the other side blasting him for holding rallies when the protestors break covid rules NIGHTLY. from yahoo On Tuesday’s episode of The View, Meghan McCain called out what she sees to be a double standard when it comes to two current hot-button issues: While President Donald Trump has been criticized for holding an upcoming rally in the midst of a pandemic, says McCain, those participating in nationwide protests haven’t been subject to the same criticism. “There’s a lot of hypocrisy to go around,” said McCain, “and this is one of the issues that I’m really enraged about.” While McCain made it clear that she thinks all large public gatherings are dangerous during this time, she made the point that Trump rally-goers are being treated differently than the protestors. “Is COVID a pandemic that we all have to stay sheltering in place and inside, or is it not?” she asked. “Or is it only a pandemic if you are a conservative and you’re a Trump supporter and then you have to stay inside, and you’re a hypocrite if you sign this waiver and you go into his rally?” The debate between the co-hosts grew testy, with Joy Behar sparring with McCain over Trump’s role in the handling of the pandemic. “If he hadn’t been so incompetent, we all probably would be out of this by now,” Behar said. McCain replied, saying, “This is an American problem, this is a problem that is bipartisan, this is not just a Trump administration problem.” And lest you think McCain was sticking up for Trump, she made it clear she was only bringing to light the unbalanced coverage, in her eyes. “I’m no Trump fan, everybody knows that,” she said. “But you make me defend him when you say things like ‘he wants people to die’, ‘he doesn’t care about public health.’” HOW CAN ANYBODY NOT ENDORSE MCCAIN's POSITION ON THIS? It is so hypocritical folks? You can't say the riots/protests are more important than other things, you just can't during COVID.
  10. Play ball, baby! Let's hope reports are true.
  11. Wow. Baseball to be played? It's gonna be so wild to have sports again. Remember how the game threads get so heated? I bet if there's baseball there's no anger from fans at all during the games because of the nature of this season. Whatever team wins is gonna have the huge asterisk so why get hot under the collar. You can just enjoy baseball without the angst.
  12. That's wild when you think about this could be the end of baseball in your scenario. Done for this year unless the owners' plan to play 50 is working by stalling; none next year in your scenario cause of even worse COVID I guess, then the strike. Not to steal the thread and I'll move it to the corona thread in slam, but I find it difficult to think they'll create a vaccine that works. If they can do that that quickly, why can't we simply cure diseases like the common flu and cold, etc. Boom ... an effective vaccine? That's wild when u think about it.

  14. Funk it up: To speed up the game have the batter strike out on the third foul ball with two strikes; have only three pickoff throws to first base per inning; have only one reliever per inning after the sixth inning (unless he gives up four or more runs); have runner on second base and none out to start every extra inning; no bunting allowed. Stuff like that.
  15. Yeah, you are right. So the plan will ultimately be 50 games plus the entire playoffs and WS? Basically it means you have to tread water the first month with pitchers working about three innings tops, then let your talent shine through the second month and the playoffs? Obviously the team that wins it this year shouldn't have a parade or anything. it's going to be tainted. That's why I just wish they'd funk it up and have wild new rules, etc.
  16. It definitely would be a good time for a rival league to start. I kind of agree with you. If they can't agree to play now they never will. This is the summer of the virus and given a chance to do something they let their skills go dormant. Pardon my ignorance but have players been getting their full salaries during this corona stoppage? If not why not? They are under contract.
  17. I think people hold them in case they need to put it on if they are going somewhere that will deny entry without the mask. They don't want to wear a mask but will if it allows them entry to the bar, the church, the store. Putting it in one's pocket seems unsanitary so they hold it. Like I will need one at our library if it ever opens so I'll bring one there to put on before I go in. I already have it on when I approach the church door cause it's required. I'll look at a grocery store before I go in. If nobody's wearing a mask I'll usually leave it in the car. I am not crazy about masks cause they pick up dust and germs everyplace the mask resides before you put it on. But as far as holding it, it seems cleaner than putting it in one's pocket.
  18. Thanks for the link. Our church has so few people the last five weeks at my Mass of choice it's really dumb to have Mass at all. We can't sing. It can't go more than 45 mins. Our go about 25 to 30 minutes with no music. The 25 peeps who have been going to my mass are all seated away from each other except there's a family of five up front in one row and a couple husband and wives together. I find myself not even concentrating on the Mass as it reminds me of when I was an altar boy as a kid working the 7 a.m. Mass with no music and no peeps in the crowd. I just concentrate on my relatives who have died and any friends who have died and pray for them. I don't see why we cant have music and a real Mass. Nobody's going amyway. Twenty two peeps in a huge old church are not many.
  19. Disappointing to hear. At the kansas speedway about 20 miles from here the buffet was (I doubt it'll ever open again, corona) amazing. The salad appeared crisp and fresh; the meats were not gross; the pizza was good; the rice and chicken appeared amazing; everything seemed fresh and good. But I take your word for it; if it's nasty, it's nasty. I'm telling you though ... that buffet is soooooo good.

Pretty much anything deemed offensive in terms of race has to be removed. For instance U. of Texas and Texas A&M have to get rid of some traditional stuff like playing "The Eyes of Texas" and yanking down some statues. If it offense just one or two regarding race it must go. I truly hope reparations are given in HUGE $$ quantities after the next election as I think that will help as well. Money always talks in all aspects of life. But Gone with the Wind must go and any show with cops has to go. Just the way it is right now.
  21. No Golden Corral or Country Kitchen ever for me. My buddy got deathly sick at one and a friend's wife at another, both years ago. Can't bring myself to either.
  22. Demands? That deserves a chuckle. I've never made any demands on here. I just happen to think the peaceful protests and the unpeaceful ones are the biggest reason for the spike and the governors offend me by never mentioning it or even acknowledging it.
  23. Balta and southsider don't seem to acknowledge that part of it. Or I've missed it.
  24. Owners. Play ball. Show some leadership. Take a hit for one season. If it's like this next season, then be hardline.
  25. Excellent post. I root for the humans with you.
