COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Amen brother. This is what I've been saying. When it was not a government rule here, I didn't wear a mask. I didn't like 'em and did not wear. When people started addressing me on this board I started to wear my mask more often even though I didn't like my goverrnment officials making demands, not working with the people here. Then with the government edict I wear it all the time and am shocked if somebody doesn't have theirs on. I am mentally ok with it because I started to listen to those who said wear one out of kindness toward my neightbor. As you said, be kind. Not bossy. That's the key.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
At least acknowledge this part is true. Look I'm no brain surgeon but I'm no dummy. I watch livestream of the protests every night (yes they are still going on nightly in Portland, Seattle, Denver; the Portland ones are quite intense nightly). They say we shouldn't be in crowds of more than a handful of people and the protests which have been ongoing for a month are attracting TONS of people during a pandemic. We even had an autonymous zone in Lawrence and our COVID numbers mysteriously are raging now since the zone appeared. Let's be fair at least. Trump rallies: Bad for pandemic spread. Protests/riots: Bad for pandemic spread. Cmon it doesn't take Einstein to believe my penultimate sentence here is correct as well. p.s. I don't see why people are so bent out of shape day after day about Trump. He's not gonna win, folks. Just relax. You can voice your displeasure at the ballot box.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Jim Harbaugh today: "COVID is part of our society. It wasn’t caused by football or caused by sports. There’s no expert view right now that I’m aware of that sports is going to make that worse." Harbaugh's position is obviously the same one as Trump's administration. We're going to let COVID-19 run its course and have group immunity. Now if it's true you can get it, get over it, then catch it again in 2 months, a whole hella lot of people are going to have COVID all winter/spring. I don't really understand herd immunity if it exists. It's kind of scary that the platform is to just act as it's business as usual except for the six-feet precaution thing and wearing a mask and not allowing large group gatherings except for societal protests in the streets. Reading this thread with posts from people following it closer than I am, it seems like it's not going to be pretty. I wish we'd hear more about hospitals being built/converted because if Harbaugh's position is reality, my guess is all our medical people are going to be doing is treating COVID in ICU's and from what I read we don't have the capacity and the amount of ventilators which is kind of scary. My point: Harbaugh's comment is going to be the new normal because it's obvious Trump wants the economy to rebound or he has no chance of being re-elected (selfish move) and our school leaders, at least on the university level, realize they MUST be open lest they close their doors likely forever via bankruptcy. Ditto sports commissioners and college ADs and presidents. They realize sports must go on.

Will There Be a 2020 Season?
Sal Perez and Freeman test positive. It's pretty apparent the only way we have baseball is playing through the positive tests and figuring the new normal in America is letting coronavirus do its thing. This sucks, all the positive tests in sports. Just saw the end of a TBT game on ESPN. The two coaches were standing there about one foot from each other chatting and players doing the same. They obviously aren't concerned but I am.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Re. mask use and the controversy ... I wear my mask everywhere and haven't done anything fun since March 12 when everything shut down. I abide by all rules. Thankfully I haven't got COVID yet. I'm one of those Americans who hate wearing my mask (masks, since I own about 20) but shut up and wear it anyway. I do, however, have a quick theory on the mask thing and why many of my fellow angry Kansans won't wear them. Remember how upset I was at the Kansas governor for being so bossy and not even listening to barbers, etc? Just a very defiant attitude in which she appeared high and mighty telling us minions what to do during the pandemic with NO discussion ever? Well ... I think there are a lot of people who do not get out of the house and take part in the massive protests attended by thousands nightly (and hundreds who leave their homes to live in autonymous zones), who pay their taxes a month ahead of time every year, do not ever rebel. These "model citizens" I feel just drew the line at the bossiness of government officials regarding masks. This is one thing they finally could stomach no more, and have freaked out. There are bossy government officials and celebs and peeps of all kinds on social media and TV yelling "wear the damn mask." Ever hear of the saying "kindness kills?" This was one issue there was anger and the mask-haters fought back and are still fighting back. I think my method would have worked ... a very kind campaign saying, "Out of respect for your neighbors and your fellow Americans, think about it long and hard and please wear a mask. We're all in this together. Let's beat COVID." I know a lot of you are just going to respond that I'm soft and a baby and I'm wrong because people need to be forcibly told things during a crisis ... I stand by my stance that kindness kills and in this one situation people have had enough (after locking themselves up 2-plus months, doing nothing fun, getting laid off work while at the same time watching THOUSANDS attend protests on TV in which "some people not most" wear masks. I think message boards are to examine all views and while what I've written may anger most of you, I think you might consider a good portion of Americans do indeed feel this way regarding masks and explains a bit their attitude of, "nobody tells me what to do in a free country!" Here's a feel good story during this time of so much anger and negativity in America. ... https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/01/us/assisted-living-pen-pals-north-carolina-trnd/index.html?utm_source=twCNN&utm_content=2020-07-04T06%3A16%3A06&utm_term=link&utm_medium=social

I've got some theories about masks that Im not going to share because guess what ... I'm learning to behave on here. I now know what's going to cause a major earthquake on here and won't go there. Let's hope the 4th is safe and fun despite COVID. This 2020 really truly sucks so far.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I read a story this weekend that said the No. 1 way to catch the virus is to sit next to somebody 1 on 1 for an extended period of time. Flying on a packed flight is like Russian Roulette right now. Wonder how the airlines can get away with this. Wonder if it has to do with cold hard cash to overlook this?? It said there are a lot of speculated ways to get covid but from what I read it's not good sitting next to somebody on a plane, especially as cramped as it is? Anybody been on a plane lately?? Totally packed (pre covid).

At some point our health care system decided to challenge every single line item and try to rip off its customers. When's the last time you had everything approved on a bill? This is not a great time to be alive and looking at our future, folks. Kansas and Missouri are trying to get rid of Obamacare regarding COVID. I guess COVID will break some people.

Zion is life-changing. I've been there. It's so peaceful at night. Hope you are staying in one of their lodges. As far as the trip ... tough call. I'd get out of the MGM now. First of all it'll take forever to check in that huge monstrocity. I always like to stay somewhere like Monte Carlo where check in is in the back by the parking and right where the cabs let you out. Since you are probably flying SWA I'd wait until 10 days out and see how Vegas and Utah are doing with the virus. The flights? I would think obviously planes are an awful place for a person to be with the virus prevalent. However, I bet it's also one of the best places in terms of it getting scrubbed down beautifully. Also mom and dad can sit next to each other in the same row with one child on the aisle and the other in another row. At least right next to you will be safe. Personally I think I'd scrap the trip this year because of the flights and being in Vegas and the fact 2020 is the year from hell. But I also think if you go you might return COVID-free. If you go let us know if Zion is still awesome. Be careful on the trails. There were a couple spots one slip would mean plunging way far down than you want to plunge. p.s. Like somebody said, if it's hard to get a shuttle and different gift shops are closed ... might be best to just scrap this year's trip and go some other time. I really don't want to go in the hospital two weeks and possibly die or have my lungs ruined forever. Best wishes to everybody as we try to avoid COVID.

Sox planning on having fans present in small amounts
That would be awful. Chances are if it's only 5,000 fans there will be very few bathrooms available, very few concessions. I never thought of that before. Not much fun or not as much fun anyway. If it takes forever to get in the park, no thanks. With just 5,000 fans they should just make parking free (they won't I know). I mean with just 5,000 fans a game, why bother charging for parking? Would be a nice gesture.

Hey Balta, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State and Duke bring their wild, enthusiastic legion of fans to the Champions Classic to the United Center on Nov. 10. I'm not trying to rip you just ask your kind opinion. Do you think Lightfoot will announce soon no way on that one-night event? Or do you think it has a chance of being OKed and played via approval from the mayor the Illinois governor? ESPN is pretty powerful as u know. Also ... I thought I read somewhere I think it was Texas that has OK'ed 50 percent capacity for sporting events? So I wonder if baseball would allow that for Rangers games and Stros games? Thanx in advance for your opinion. I ask you cause you seem a bit alarmed about even the Sox allowing 4,000 fans.

2020 60 game sprint to the finish
Sorry for the pain you've gone through. As a fellow human being who doesn't know you, I do care about what you've gone through. Hang in there. Fight for that workers comp and fight to get unemployment. If they filled your position you ARE likely eligible for unemployment. Hope you feel better and can work again someplace where you can put food on table.

I am 100 percent for my $1 million reparations plan. I think it would go a long ways toward making up for slavery and appeasing future riots, etc. Again ... a million bucks per family should get almost everybody on their feet and out of poverty and feel like America is truly righting a wrong. If $1 million per individual and/or family isnt' enough, I don't know what to say about that. Make the wealthiest individuals pay as much of the tax as we deem possible, then print the rest of the money and the economy deals with it later. How come nobody is commenting on my reparations plan? Can you imagine the debates? Trump is going to be against reparations. Biden for them. Specifics, Joe? Can you imagine if he says, $5000 per family or something? That's why I say $1 million. It's indisputably fair. Anything Joe promises is going to be very very insulting folks. 2000 dollars? Cmon.

Thing is ... people won't acknowledge that mean, selfish Greg has actually been a responsible citizen. I've obeyed all government orders here. I have sheltered as much as anybody else. And I wear my mask where it's required for certain and I put it on out of respect if I see those working in the stores have theirs on. I have been a good citizen through all this. My contact with human beings has been very minute until the past week or so. I've noticed traffic is much greater now and things are opening up. Our spike will be incredible when the students come back. Douglas County has had so so so few cases so far here.

This is just another example of how we all hate each other in America. It's doomed. My guess is the violence will be the new normal. We hate each other, let's face it. (You are not going to get consensus on a topic like masks when politics rules the country 24/7).

Maybe I'm just dense but I have never heard of Juneteenth until this year. Never. I think this talk is just more partisan politics as always. Who the heck ever talked of Juneteenth before this political season of rallies? Pardon me if it's very common; I swear on a stack of Bibles I'd never heard of it before a week or two ago. Now it's everything.

And depending on Trump's mood that day, it could get really ugly regarding masks. I think most of us can see Trump grabbing the mike and cracking some jokes about masks being for wimps or something. He shouldn't do that. Unfortunately this like EVERYTHING nowadays is political. No matter what some are saying about "most of the people" during the "peaceful" nightly marches and riots wore masks, that simply is very very debatable as far as being true. Cmon. There were and still are nightly protests and big time rallies and these should be called out for being huge spreaders of covid-19. Let's face it, Trump certainly is holding this and all rallies as a bit of a frick-you to the governors who turned the other way and NEVER. blasted the protestors for huge gatherings. It's a "get-even' by Trump for sure. What a world we live in, folks. ps. I saw this story AFTER my take. yes it's ALL political and Trump is getting the last laugh on the other side blasting him for holding rallies when the protestors break covid rules NIGHTLY. from yahoo On Tuesday’s episode of The View, Meghan McCain called out what she sees to be a double standard when it comes to two current hot-button issues: While President Donald Trump has been criticized for holding an upcoming rally in the midst of a pandemic, says McCain, those participating in nationwide protests haven’t been subject to the same criticism. “There’s a lot of hypocrisy to go around,” said McCain, “and this is one of the issues that I’m really enraged about.” While McCain made it clear that she thinks all large public gatherings are dangerous during this time, she made the point that Trump rally-goers are being treated differently than the protestors. “Is COVID a pandemic that we all have to stay sheltering in place and inside, or is it not?” she asked. “Or is it only a pandemic if you are a conservative and you’re a Trump supporter and then you have to stay inside, and you’re a hypocrite if you sign this waiver and you go into his rally?” The debate between the co-hosts grew testy, with Joy Behar sparring with McCain over Trump’s role in the handling of the pandemic. “If he hadn’t been so incompetent, we all probably would be out of this by now,” Behar said. McCain replied, saying, “This is an American problem, this is a problem that is bipartisan, this is not just a Trump administration problem.” And lest you think McCain was sticking up for Trump, she made it clear she was only bringing to light the unbalanced coverage, in her eyes. “I’m no Trump fan, everybody knows that,” she said. “But you make me defend him when you say things like ‘he wants people to die’, ‘he doesn’t care about public health.’” HOW CAN ANYBODY NOT ENDORSE MCCAIN's POSITION ON THIS? It is so hypocritical folks? You can't say the riots/protests are more important than other things, you just can't during COVID.

Will There Be a 2020 Season?
Wow. Baseball to be played? It's gonna be so wild to have sports again. Remember how the game threads get so heated? I bet if there's baseball there's no anger from fans at all during the games because of the nature of this season. Whatever team wins is gonna have the huge asterisk so why get hot under the collar. You can just enjoy baseball without the angst.
