  1. The positive is that Anderson and Moncada are very very fast and fun to watch run. And Madrigal is fast, yes, so it's nice to have some speed; now we need some defense.
  2. OH no; Sox gotta face Sale. Please no no hitter.
  3. Would somebody sent a memory eraser to Lawrence, Ks., please, so I can forget the name, Harry Chappas? Thank u.
  4. Avi ... we hardly knew ya. Kidding. But you folks who wanted to trade him were correct (as usual compared to my oft inaccurate takes). Avi has been long forgotten by most of us. We've moved on without him and survived (I mean we win a couple games a week for gosh sakes) so that being said you are right, we shoulda traded him. This hammy thing is really derailing his season, coupled with his lousy at bats earlier this season where he was hacking at everything and not successfully. Avi baby we still love ya however those soxtalkers were right. You shoulda been dealt at your highest premium level. Hail to Avi though!
  5. I've been thinking about this. I know Altuve is the popular exception but cmon we should not expect Madrigal to hit more than 3-5 homers a year. The guy is what, 5-foot-6? 5-7? Not that he has to hit homers to be productive. I mean like somebody said our lineup "should" have enough power to win a couple WS. He better be a good average and on base guy and fielder or he'll be known as a horrific draft pick. He can allegedly do the three things I just mentioned so we should chill. But he's NOT going to hit 15-20 hrs a year, cmon folks. Altuve is a "freak" in a good way.
  6. Thanks for the facts. No problem moving him, then.
  7. Good point. No way a religious baker would write that based on his/her religious beliefs about abortion. What if a rowdy customer wearing ominous clothes and a mohawk wanted a cake that said, "Frick you all; you're dead" with a picture of an automatic weapon? No way you'd bake him that cake. Interesting stuff. The baker should just play dumb the next time. If somebody wants a cake and the premise is against his religion, he should bake the cake and mis-spell the key words. Just play dumb if the customer complains and say, "I must have erred. Sorry." There are creative ways around these things if the government isn't going to back your right to religious freedom.
  8. That's a good post. I'd be furious if we were a contender and he's the guy we acquired. And I'd want us to give up nothing for him. Good points. I mean if a team wants a fifth starter now, or maybe a fourth starter, or even a long relief guy, by all means trade for him. He might help get some outs.
  9. I know he's an employee of the Sox now, but has he played ss all his life? Just asking. I know if I were Madrigal, and knew I was gonna be a top pick, in the interview process or before signing I'd let the team know I'm not moving from my position ... EVER. I know nothing about the guy; maybe he's played a lot of positions and it's no big deal to him.
  10. Oh well. I give up on this point. I lose this argument.
  11. I mainly was trying to make the point in my initial post that you don't want people baking you cakes and cooking you up a steak and potatoes if you offend them. They can do all sorts of nasty things to your food.
  12. That kind of sucks. Hope they are independently wealthy, cause I expect they spent a lot of money on lawyers, unless the lawyers did it for free cause of all the publicity.
  13. I personally would bake a cake for anybody (I might not do it for a hardened criminal), but I'm thinking if the baker's religion said it was a no no, the couple probably should go somewhere else and not even give that particular baker their money.
  14. I know if my bakery made it clear they didn't want my business I'd say frick you and go to another bakery. There are a lot of bakeries.
  15. I thought they would sell the cake, they just wouldn't write the words of congratulations on the cake.
  16. Thanks for hating on me and being so unwelcoming.
  17. I don't mind reading differing opinions about matters.
  18. What's wrong with differing opinions? It would have to be boring with you guys agreeing with each other all the time. Tell me your opinion of that case. Why is it right to make the bakers do something they don't want to do if it's against their religious beliefs? What's more the commission mocked the guy for his religious beliefs. "Just bake the cake bud!" ... If the couple couldn't get the cake anywhere else and it wrecked the wedding, I might be more sympathetic. But again ... if you mess with the chefs, food servers will tell you you may not like what you get as the final product.
  19. Couldn't they just have bought the cake somewhere else? If this baker has religious beliefs that forbid him writing "congratulations happy couple' on the cake is that such a big deal? Couldn't they buy the cake somewhere else? Forgive me for taking a lighthearted attitude toward this. But in this case I always think about food and how you need to be careful offending servers. That movie where they put weird stuff in the food after customers complain? If this baker is religious he probably wouldn't damage the food, but he could have agreed to bake the cake and put gross stuff in it if he wanted. Or he coulda mis-spelled some words on the cake and just claimed he's a bad speller. If somebody doesn't want to sell you a product, why not just go elsewhere? Maybe I'm way off base here. I haven't read enough about the case I guess. I just always think, "Don't mess with people who are cooking your food; baking your cakes. You don't know what's gonna be in the final product." I even told the guy I was dining with the other day to NOT complain about the appetizers that sucked until after we get our main course.
  20. I can root for Gio. Hope he makes it. He had a nice step one tonight.
  21. Fans of the rebuild will give EVERY benefit of the doubt to the guys we've acquired in trades. That is part of how great it is to be a GM doing a complete rebuild.
  22. You guys are nuts. Stone and Bennetti are so cordial with each other they are a delightful broadcast team. These 2 guys are giving us a fine broadcast. Bennetti forever!
  23. Smith at catcher could be the key. How many pitches has Gio thrown? One more inning, baby and he gets a gatorade shower. Gio is back baby!
  24. Just think if Gio can get six more outs minus a run. It would be an amazing DH for starting pitchers. Kudos to Lopez for allowing one hit. Suck it up Gio. Have yourself a ballgame.
  25. His fastball doesn't explode ... yet
